  1. It's a pretty weird insult considering the western provinces are basically the countries most conservative regions politically.
  2. That's a pretty cool study, for those that haven't read the results it found that: -when contacting the sweet spot metal exit velocity outperformed wood by 8.3% -When missing the sweet spot, the bats performed similarly with metal outperforming wood by only 1.4%. -Batters were able to contact the sweet spot 57% of the time with the metal bats. This value for wood was over 10% lower at 45%. This correlates to the metal bats having a larger sweet spot as it is easier to hit.
  3. How do the modern aluminum bats being used by college players tend to compare with wooden bats for exit velocities? I'm just wondering if this is an apples to apples comparison.
  4. I can totally see the Jays getting screwed over by scheduling this year. They will have to play the majority of their games against Boston, Tampa Bay and New York, then they'll likely end up getting screwed over and having to play a bunch of games against the Braves and Phillies as well.
  5. Think of the massive surge of excitement the old school dinosaurs would get to experience with the upswing in small ball tactics. If there's anything that can be counted on to bring new fans to the sport it's absolutely the unparalleled excitement of bunts and sacrifice flies.
  6. This shows how tenuous the situation is with having baseball at all this season, both spring training states of Florida and Arizona are having sharp increases in coronavirus cases recently.
  7. I think expanding playoffs would likely be good for the overall health of baseball as it would provide incentive for more teams to actually attempt to compete instead of tanking.
  8. We could maybe wait until Martin has even a single professional at bat before we start directly comparing him to a hall of famer.
  9. OMFG somebody pinch me I must be dreaming! Such a perfect pick for the Jays!
  10. How would you personally rank the guys who are likely to be available in the number 5 draft slot?
  11. Any one of these guys is going to be a very exciting acquisition for the minor league system. If the Jays end up picking Meyer I'm pumped to see what he can accomplish when using the pitching lab in the minor league complex.
  12. I wonder how service time accrual would work for taxi squad members? If you were to start the service clocks early for so many key prospects it might be reason not to include some of these guys.
  13. Giants just missed out on the opportunity to draft Brian Matusz.
  14. If the owners are legitimately better off financially not having a season vs paying players half their salaries with no fans in the seats, and the players don't feel like risking virus exposure is worth it for a further wage reduction, it's becoming difficult to see how the two sides are going to be able to compromise to allow any sort of season to proceed. But they seriously both need to grow up and stop negotiating through the media to garner public favor and get down to work on trying to rescue some sort of season if we are to have any hope of baseball in 2020.
  15. If he wants to make a stand and not get paid anything I guess that's his prerogative. I wonder how many other players have a similar mindset?
  16. Juan Guzman was definitely my favorite Jays starter during the championship seasons. He was awesome during those playoff runs.
  17. In normal times the owners are assuming the lions share of risk. But during a pandemic the balance really shifts towards the players in a large way given the increased risk of catching the coronavirus during play.
  18. Half a years salary would sure beat the hell out of nothing for most reasonable people. But MLB isn't exactly known for being the most reasonable players union over the years.
  19. This original comparison wasn't comparing overall franchise results, that's obviously heavily slanted in the Jays favor, but when comparing actual player performances in the franchises history things tilt in the Mariners favor.
  20. I wanted to call ******** on Joe Carter but after looking up his Padres numbers he actually had the worst season of his career in a Padres uniform, despite how ugly his post world series years were in a Blue Jays uniform.
  21. Once you get past the top 5 players for the Mariners they have a precipitous drop-off after that. Can't argue with 4 surefire hall of fame quality players at the top though. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=1871&ind=0&team=11&rost=0&age=&filter=&players=0&startdate=&enddate= Jays seem to have more overall depth but less sustained superstar level production, some of which is simply due to star players being moved out of the organization while they were still highly productive. Think if players like McGriff, Alomar, Olerud, and Delgado would have been with the organization for a longer period of time. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=1871&ind=0&team=14&rost=0&age=&filter=&players=0&startdate=&enddate=
  22. It's a testament to the strength of the first base pool for the organization that Fred McGriff doesn't qualify for a full time first base spot. He put up 3 years in a Blue Jays uniform with WRC+ of 156, 156, and 157.
  23. Brandon Morrow's 1 hit 17 strikeout game was the best Jays pitching performance I had the pleasure of watching. When Morrow had his good stuff and command he was a treat to watch. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/brandon-morrow-greatest-pitching-performance-likely-forgot-152319663.html
  24. At least we got nice safe college arms instead of riskier picks like Chris Sale or Mike Trout, huge bullet dodged there.
  25. If Gonzalez bat is as legit as it appears to be, you would be able to put together a pretty crazy offensively minded infield. Imagine Groshans, Bichette, Gonzalez and Guerrero Jr. manning the infield, that team would put up some ridiculous offensive numbers.
