  1. Did you miss the first wave of talent that came up in 2019-2020? That included players like Vlad, Bo, Biggio, Gurriel, Kirk, Moreno etc. That's a massive pool of talent, but these players don't count for some reason. Pitching development has been a real sore point, but Manoah and Yesavage both seem like solid MLB pitchers to me.
  2. His arm strength was slowly recovering as the season unfolded. In the post season Daulton was able to really air out his throws although I don't think he's recovered all of the lost velocity yet.
  3. Donovan certainly fits the bill as a versatile player in the mold of the players the Blue Jays like to employ. I do question how clean of a fit he is as his best position appears to be 2nd base and if Bo is retained either Bo or Gimenez stands to receive the bulk of the playing time at 2nd base.
  4. I kind of question whether a Kwan pickup would be worth the acquisition cost. Two of his last 3 seasons are approximately league average with the bat, and although he's experienced 2 far more successful seasons he's far from a sure thing.
  5. That doesn't exactly feel like an apples to apples comparison.
  6. I don't think the team was ever a "joke", especially not in the context of a single bad season largely caused by extenuating circumstances.
  7. Who would play center field if Varsho were let go? That would open up the need for another external addition as I don't think there is anyone else suited for center field starting duties on the roster presently.
  8. Suarez feels a lot like Ryu 2.0 and he carries a lot of the same concerns on a potential long term deal.
  9. I think there is very little chance that Bo would make those types of demands. People are quick to forget that it was Bo that suggested he could play second base in the world series and he's been perfectly willing to move off of short stop to improve the team if he were asked to do so.
  10. Yeah I agree the 80 grade power is tantalizing but it feels like there's real bust potential here. I wonder if interested teams could simply bring him in house to hit off of the Trajekt machines to test his ability to catch up to high velocity fastballs.
  11. OMFG Tatis Jr. would be a dream acquisition. But with how MLB salaries have ballooned in recent offseasons his contract actually looks like a relative bargain and as such the acquisition cost would be painfully high.
  12. I'm pretty lukewarm on Bellinger as his home/away splits are pretty drastic. I think his 2024 season will be really hard for him to recreate as it relied on an extreme reverse splits of 180 wRC+ vs LHP/105 wRC+ vs RHP. Tucker would be an amazing add but I also have a hard time justifying $400 million for a 5 win player. I also like the idea of a Varsho extension, but some online sites list him as a Boras client which would all but eliminate the idea of a team friendly extension if true. Bregman is an interesting suggestion but the Blue Jays can receive 80-90% of the value he provides for a fraction of the cost by simply platooning Barger and Clement so it might not be the best use of available funds. Kim is a tricky one as his arm strength was down significantly after shoulder surgery and it remains a bit of an unknown how much of it will eventually return.
  13. The big surprise for me was that Kirk didn't win a gold glove, he lead the winner by 3 DRS and 10 FRV yet didn't win.
  14. This series is always going to haunt me as it honestly felt like the Blue Jays were the better team for the majority. Yamamoto deserves maximum props as he was the major difference maker for the Dodgers, but in the end it's always going to feel like the Blue Jays defeated themselves due to the lack of execution and mistakes, both by the manager and players.
  15. This is ridiculous man. Atkins literally acquired every single one of these players outside of Vlad, and as the long term GM was involved in establishing the team culture and hiring the coaching staff that allowed the team to discover the key to unlocking post season success. If Atkins gets no credit for this improbable but impressive post season run and the players get all of the credit, then I guess prior to this season the players get all of the blame and Atkins gets no blame either, he just sort of exists in some sort of alternate plane where the general manager has no impact on a team's fortunes. If ever there was an opportunity to showcase that your brain still possesses even an inkling of neural plasticity and is still capable of learning this was it, and you just failed completely.
  16. Apparently the coaching staff told IKF to stay close to the base to avoid getting picked off. That's just insanely risk averse to not even allow him to take a normal lead as he would have had plenty of time to get back to the base with where Muncy was positioned.
  17. Uh newsflash man he's the guy that assembled the team that came within literal inches of winning a world series. It's time to let this petty grudge go for crying out loud.
  18. All of us are emotionally gutted right now, but are you seriously stating you derive zero satisfaction from this improbable post season run? This team was viewed as a wild card contender at best and not only won the division, but won the ALDS, ALCS and came painfully close to winning a world series title. I seriously hope you aren't going to tell me that you still would have rather seen the Blue Jays lose to the Yankees in the ALDS.
  19. At the end of the day IKF showed repeatedly during this post season that he's simply not a championship caliber player. It's really a damn shame that Hoffman hung a slider to the number 9 hitter as he had a tremendous post season and hadn't allowed a home run in 2 months of play. At any rate it's bound to be a fun post season with so many rotation holes to fill, and I do tend to think that the certainty of Vlad being signed long term along with the near world series miss should make it a little easier for the front office to attract premium talent in free agency.
  20. Varsho had a tough few games but if IKF had even a fraction of a bigger lead and didn't make the boneheaded move of sliding into home plate he scores and Varsho is credited with driving in the winning run. I had the inkling that the inability to plate more of the wealth of scoring chances they had earlier in the game might come back to bite the team in the ass and that was definitely the case.
  21. It sucks as it seems like every time IKF was inserted to pinch run that Straw would have scored easily if inserted in his place. This wouldn't work positionally given IKF is an infielder vs Straw in the outfield with Bo being replaced on the bases. It sucks that so many completely empty plate appearances were handed to Straw and IKF in extra innings, and that the lowest valuable position player on the roster in IKF was acquired in the first place given how many crucial mistakes he made in the post season.
  22. I keep going over this play in my mind and I just can't come up with any reason why he was so damn close to the base. He should have been anticipating a wild pitch in that situation and getting a secondary lead so he would have a chance to score.
  23. That and the Jays sort of beat themselves as well at times.
  24. The shoddy baserunning was one of the key reasons why the Jays lost this series. There was the Bo brain fart where he wasn't paying attention, Barger being doubled off to end a game and now IKF with the awful jump at third base on a play where he probably should have scored easily.
  25. Give this garbage a rest. All of us are gutted and it serves no purpose carrying on with this completely pointless argument chiding fans for stating belief in their team.
