    I guess there's a glass half full or half empty way of looking at this trade. If you think Gimenez is a noodle bat, it's going to be underwhelming at best. But that's overlooking the ceiling he's shown (not potential, actual performance). At age 23, just two seasons ago, he produced a season as great as the very best ever by a Jays middle infielder. Right up there with Alomar's best seasons and better than Bo's very best year. He doesn't need to get all the way back to that level in order to produce surplus value. It's a risk- reward play that could actually turn out marvelously.

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Gimenez 2022 season would rank as the third or fourth best season ever by a Blue Jays middle infielder. Would be behind Semien (2021) and Alomar (1992) but right in line with Alomar in '93, ahead of Bo's best season in 2021 and Aaron Hill in 2009....

    Seems like he has played exclusively in RF, maybe a switch to LF would help his defensive grades

    72 seems to be nearly exclusively used as a rookie number, only three players in history have worn it for more than one season. Cubs RHP Javier Assad for the last three seasons and Rays righty Yonny Chirinos for his five years with the club being two of them. The number obviously belongs to its long most tenured player though. Legendary catcher Carlton Fisk switched to #72 upon joining the White Sox in 1981, and wore it for thirteen seasons until retiring at age 45.

    I liked the idea of upgrading the spot when there were clear upgrades available, but now maybe it's better to roll with the min. cost option there and spend those couple/few million towards other help.

    Maybe they feel Heineman can be above replacement level in a full season as backup, on the back of his defense. We surely would still need more depth at the position though. Kirk has never started more than 90 games behind the plate or completed more than 80. It doesn't seem safe to assume his backup will be seeing less than 60 games.

    I think I read that the Dodgers signed Gallegos to a minor league deal, because I recall thinking those f***ers will probably get a huge bounceback from him

    We need a closer and a good lefty reliever, those two along with Swanson and Green can be our back end at least to start the year . Sign some risk/reward guys to hopefully push them. Cheapest area to add talent through the year if the team is worth adding to.

    Read that Martin is only pitching one more year and would prefer to stay close to home in Texas, but point still stands for other similar options

    The longest tenured #73 in history is recently DFA'd former Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay, who wore the number for each the last six seasons

    Former Jays starter Gustavo Chacin wore #73 when he made it back to the majors with the Astros in 2010.

    73 days until the start of Spring Training! The only player to wear #73 for the Jays, was reliever Ryan Dull in 2019. There are not a lot of photos of Ryan Dull with the Blue Jays, believe it or not.

    Austin Hays, if you forgive his illness riddled 2024, has always been a fairly productive OF bat. I think he's one of the better buy low candidates this off season. Surely goes for much better value than Conforto

    MLBTR projected him for just 9M (18/2) but Kiley had him at 15M. I agree 17M seems high, I would have guessed in the 12-14M range
