  1. As a couple of other people have said - OK so Atkins is higher than everyone else on Woods Richardson, Kay and Fisher. But when negotiating surely you use that to get more value, not overpay (from the other side’s perspective)? Like the Astros appear to have done with the Sanchez trade - they think they can fix him but asked for a intriguing prospect as a throw in.
  2. I was so looking forward to us getting in a haul for Stroman and Giles, complemented by selling anyone and everyone who isn't going to be here in a couple of years. It's been mildly disappointing for me - lots of assets acquired but nothing to get too excited about. Can't see anything other that another losing season next year, while we wait to see how many of our back end starters and 4th outfielders bust or not. Ironically, for all the moaning people do about Atkins being risk averse, the biggest asset acquired is basically the riskiest prospect type possible, a teenage pitcher!
  3. July 28 Traded Eric Sogard to the Tampa Bay Rays. Received two players to be named. Traded Marcus Stroman and cash to the New York Mets. Received Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson. July 30 Traded David Phelps and cash to the Chicago Cubs. Received Tom Hatch. July 31 Traded Daniel Hudson to the Washington Nationals. Received Kyle Johnston. Traded David Phelps to the Chicago Cubs. Received Thomas Hatch. Traded Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini and Cal Stevenson to the Houston Astros. Received Derek Fisher. Claimed Brock Stewart from the LA Dodgers.
  4. How do you rate the trade deadline for us? Pros: Quite a few new pitchers to add to the system; Even more payroll flexibility next year; Bichette got promoted after the Sogard trade; No more Stroman and Sanchez debates! Cons: some of the reaction around the league to a few of the moves we made = "puzzling", "seems a bit light", "dogshit". Not trading Smoak; Not trading Giles (due to injury); None of the trades are an obvious A+ win; The potentially best player we've acquired is literally a child.
  5. Nah mate, I only block *******s and trolls.
  6. There is virtually no chance he starts in their playoff rotation.
  7. The majority of this board are like “anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot”. It f***ing sucks, and doesn’t promote interesting debates. But yeah it’s best to just shake your head and don’t fall for the bait.
  8. Aaron Sanchez is going to win the World Series for the Astros from the bullpen, haha. Seriously though, his value is as low as it gets right now - holding onto him and turning him into a reliever wouldn’t have been the worst thing in the world.
  9. This trade deadline has been a bit disappointing, and this is by far the worst thing about it. Just hope that he doesn’t blow out his arm before we can trade him in the summer.
  10. That really isn’t saying much! I don’t think he’s better than Grichuk anyway.
  11. Once he's gone and Tellez is back, our infield will have an average age of 22 when Galvis and Drury aren't in the lineup! 24 - Jansen 24 - Tellez 24 - Biggio 21 - Bo 20 - Vlad
  12. I'd like to see Mike Trout try to pitch, haha.
  13. ["tweet"]tweet number["/tweet"] without the quotation marks. Like this:
  14. Talent evaluators around the league are still scratching their heads about the Stroman trade, though not only because the Mets were the team to land him. Toronto’s return – pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson – has been widely considered to be lighter than expected. Three executives from competing clubs said that the Blue Jays’ asking price for Stroman from their clubs was considerably higher than the one they ultimately received from the Mets. One even wondered why Toronto would have settled on this deal on Sunday rather than waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday, when pitching-starved contenders might have been more desperate to add an arm of Stroman’s caliber. “It’s hard for me to understand,” the NL executive said. “Every team values players differently. Maybe moving the money was key and other teams weren’t willing to take it all. Or possibly he wasn’t tops on any other team’s list, so Toronto felt like they should capitalize to make sure they didn’t miss out altogether.”
  15. The trade is bad for the Mets because they should not be selling prospects. Unless they flip Stroman in the summer of course, but on the face of it, it’s classic lol Mets.
  16. I don’t know what you are smoking, but I think you’re the first person to suggest that it was a “great” deal (not just good, not just that the Jays won the trade, but a great deal) and also that there is any way in the world Stroman would choose to sign back here and work with Atkins again. I guess it’s nice to see some positivity for once!
  17. By trading him to the Rays for Sogard.
  18. That’s pretty funny.
  19. Haha, yeah I mean it's not like Stroman kicked off in the changing room when he heard he'd been traded to the Mets. Yup, I'm sure he'd have accepted not been traded with good grace and no disruption at all.........
  20. I still think the return is light, and I’m not as willing as some to give Atkins leeway because he hasn’t had a very good track record with us. Unfortunately even if Atkins is right to love Woods Richardson, as an 18 year old pitcher there’s as good a chance he’s a bust as he ends up as a frontline starter. IMO I’d have wanted another player in the deal to mitigate some of that risk.
