  1. Nice, keep it going!
  2. Yeah, there’s no rebuilding team that wouldn’t want that as a base to rebuild with.
  3. The thing is, Sanchez traded at the deadline can justifiably be seen as a negative asset. So if you believe he is done as a MLB player, then it’s an OK trade. Personally I don’t think he’s done, but plenty of posters here do.
  4. The slow motion also seems to show him closing his eyes / looking away before the ball gets to his glove. Probably already thinking about which base to throw to, before completing the catch.
  5. Looks like Hanson has been released. One of the worst Jays ever, funny to remember that he made the team ahead of Sogard.
  6. Can’t stop watching this! The perfect representation of our trade deadline.
  7. This 100%.
  8. Not funny mate.
  9. Astros get the combined no hitter with Sanchez pitching six innings (with Biagini also pitching an inning).
  10. The Yankees have had terrible luck with injuries and are still 8 games clear in the AL East. Crazy.
  11. The trade deadline is over mate.
  12. I love the first day of the season, lots of optimism! I went to our first game today, 3-0 down after 30 mins haha. Farsley ended up winning 3-1 (Darlington fan, in the National League North).
  13. Welcome, always nice to know there’s a fellow Brit interesting in baseball! Just one thing to add: in baseball once you sign a contract it’s guaranteed (sometimes with options / bonuses). So a “transfer” is where the contract is traded to another team. The player has no say (apart from a few that have a no trade clause in their contract normally specifying a few teams no one wants to play for, like the Orioles). In football, a transfer fee is paid by the purchasing team, and the player signs a completely new contract with that team. So they have to agree to the deal, and forgo any money owed on their old contract.
  14. Here’s last offseason’s non tendered players: MLB list Note that it includes players like Matt Bush and Ronald Torreyes who were arbitration eligible.
  15. We'll never know for sure, but there was very little chance of that happening. It's not like we need to save money next year and it would have been ridiculous to throw away any chance of Sanchez building any value at all (as a reliever or a starter) to save $4-5m.
  16. Not too late for a run for Cy Young, haha.
  17. TBF a one year contract doesn't have too many drawbacks, but yeah a good pick up.
  18. Welcome back! Tulo and Grichuk are the only significant guaranteed contracts at $14m and $12m (Gurriel is $2.5m). Galvis has a $5.5m option. Everyone else is arbitration or pre arbitration. Giles is going to be the highest paid of those players, but unless his arm falls off he'll be traded in the offseason. So yeah, payroll flexibility shouldn't be an issue!
  19. Yeah I mean valuing players differently (as long as you're right) is great for drafts, but in trades if you think someone is worth more than anyone else does, then that should give you leverage to get what the seller & overall market thinks is a fair deal, but you think is an amazing deal. We've only done it half right - competitors think we're overvaluing our acquired assets.
  20. Counting someone who isn't yet in the majors is cheating, but yeah for the regular season I'd probably take Dodgers over Astros, though I'd be tempted to flip that for the playoffs.
  21. When you consider shortened playoff rotations, if all those 4 teams make it then we're going to see some epic postseason pitching contests!
  22. At first I reacted with the Mets don't even have the best rotation in their own division, but thinking about it - it's an interesting debate. The Mets may have the best 4/5 in their rotation but overall who do you pick as the best? Astros - Cole, Verlander, Grienke, Miley, Sanchez Nationals - Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin, Sanchez, Hellickson/Fedde Dodgers - Kershaw, Ryu, Buehler, Maeda, Hill/Stripling Mets - deGrom, Syndergaard, Stroman, Wheeler, Matz/Vargas Teams like the Twins, Rays, and Cleveland are a level below those 4 teams IMO.
