  1. IMO moving him to 1B so early sends the message that we don’t ever believe he’ll lose any weight. Assuming we’re not competitive next year, I’d keep him at 3B and tell him he needs to improve his fitness to stick there. Otherwise he’s going to keep overeating and need a mobility scooter by the time he’s 25!
  2. The death of Skaggs was obv devastating for the team and the season. But positives include La Stella and Fletcher coming through, Calhoun bouncing back from a shocking season last year, and Pujols not being the complete liability he’s been for a few years. Next year actually looks promising for them if they can get some pitching in the offseason. The return of Ohtani as a pitcher is massive, and if Jo Adell graduates next year they have a very good lineup supported by an ace starter.
  3. You mean f*** the front office. Stroman’s obv doesn’t like the way he’s been treated by them. Whether that’s fair or not is debatable, but your outrage is misplaced if you think he’s ‘disrespecting’ the fans or having any impact on the non existent leverage of claiming an extension is still on the table.
  4. More evidence that we’ve already seen Stroman’s last start.
  5. Haha that’s awesome. Amateur hour from the Jays - “give us a better deal or we’ll just extend him!”. Stroman - “er, no you f***ing won’t!”
  6. Injuries and better results as a reliever. They plan to use him as a longman in the future, but are still limiting his innings right now.
  7. That's not really accurate, less than 5 years just means they don't have to give permission to be assigned to the minors. They still have to clear waivers.
  8. That 40 man spot is now going to be wasted on Elvis for the next few years while he’s developing in the minors. I guess we could dfa him once the rule 5 restrictions are over, as no one is likely to claim him and put him on their 40 man list. TBF it probably was the right move releasing Tulo, but it was more about preventing potential disruption (his comments on insisting on being the starter at SS, and his general apparent unhappiness at being here) IMO.
  9. Wow, this is an aggressive ranking for Moreno. Encouraging.
  10. 6 days left. Giles, Stroman, Smoak, Galvis, Hudson, Sogard, Phelps all on the trade block. It's going to be the most interesting week of the season (at least since Vlad's debut!).
  11. Yeah if Shatkins aren't willing to offer any extension at all then they should be immediately fired. I can't believe they would be that incompetent. But with all of Stroman's self belief and self hype, does anyone really think he's not asking for ace level money (minimum $20m+ AAV)? It's reasonable that the front office doesn't want to give him $20-25m a year, and we don't know how low Stroman would go, or the maximum Shatkins ideally would pay him ($15m?). If it was such a big difference, then a compromise was always unlikely to be reached and that'd support Stroman's comments on the lack of negotiation.
  12. Why would we need a bench player though? Unless you think he’s going to turn into a starter I don’t see the point. Someone like Urena, who is almost certainly nothing but has options might as well get that roster spot IMO.
  13. He’s out of options though. Seems a waste of a spot, at least when the likes of Urena or McKinney suck they can be safely sent to AAA.
  14. Not giving Stroman a five year contract at a reasonable AAV, solely because you’re worried that because he is short for a pitcher he’ll be done when he turns 30, would be stupid. However, it’s entirely justifiable not to give him $20m+ AAV no matter how long the contract.
  15. There’s not really a big sample size though so you can’t really make any accurate assumptions. It’s not as simple as he’s short so he’ll have a short career. Not many starters under 6 foot make it, so obviously not many will still be good into their early 30’s.
  16. All of those teams have spent significant money on free agents. Baseball has shown us over and over that building internally then adding with assets is the best way to be successful (obv still not a guarantee). Your takeaway should be the best way to build is use a varied strategy. Don’t only rely on prospects, equally don’t only rely on free agents.
  17. Can you imagine the backlash if he ended up signing a 4/50 extension somewhere else, haha? TBF if he shines on a team that makes a deep playoff run then he should be able to secure an extension at whatever level he wants.
  18. And that right there is the issue. It's clear that the front office has a different valuation to Stroman and his agent on what is close to reasonable.
  19. We can always trade for pitchers so that they have no choice, and supplement that with free agents that are willing to sign here.
  20. I really don't think a 34 year Bautista is a fair comparison to a 28 year old Stroman when debating whether an extension would provide value. It's besides the point anyway, he's going to be traded as soon as we receive a reasonable offer.
  21. He has to be or we'll have to keep him at MLB next year too.
  22. And on the other side, it may stop teams offering a ransom if they think they can get an even better pitcher in a couple of weeks. So many changing parameters - working out trades really isn't as easy as we all wish it was.
