    TBF it was a difficult situation - because of the breakdown in relationship Stroman pretty much had to be traded at this deadline or the rest of the season he’d be a massive disruption and may even hurt his value if he did something stupid (maybe even got fined / suspended). Atkins obv really likes the 2 pitchers he got. If he waits a few extra days, sure maybe the Yankees etc get desperate and up their offer, but equally maybe the Mets realise that trading prospects is a stupid idea and/or someone like Cleveland decide to trade a starter or two.

    His last start helped convince me that Sanchez could be an elite reliever. His fastball with movement and his curveball over a couple of innings 3/4 times a week could be really valuable. If it worked, this time next year he’d be a pretty valuable asset.

    I meant an extension was impossible after what has happened this season. The relationship between Stroman and the front office had broken down completely. Although we’ll never know for sure, I think Stroman was demanding too much money to make an extension a good idea anyway. Both sides take blame IMO.

    Extension was never going to happen, but being glad he’s gone because of not liking his social media presence is pathetic.

    The fact that it isn't a great trade, in the circumstances (i.e. arguably the best available pitcher in a seller's market with a few days left in the window for desperate teams to up their offers, plus potentially revisiting offers in the summer) means that people are going to be pissed off. If they get an underwhelming return for Giles then this trade deadline is a disaster. If they get a decent return then that makes this deal much more acceptable IMO.

    An 18 year old pitcher and a projected back of the rotation starter is disappointing. Atkins needs to hit a home run with the Giles trade or he should be fired in the summer.

    I think it’s fair to assume that some of his inconsistency is because he’s out of shape.

    It’s a terrible idea if we have to give up any prospects. But if the Mets are willing to trade him just to get rid of Cano’s contract then the Mets are f***ing stupid and we could take advantage of that.
