    Are you confident in the core group? If so, retool. If not, you really have to go scorched earth.

    If ownership is intent in keeping Shapiro, and he wants to stick around, we'd likely see an extension signed not long after the season is completed...then you can have Shapiro hire the new GM, knowing he'll be around for a bit. Otherwise if it's a total house cleaning, expect that they'll already have a replacement lined up and said replacement will have already been having discussions on his GM of choice in advance of his hiring.

    Not realistic to bring someone into the job and say, you have a couple of weeks to get up to speed and make decisions that will shape the direction of the franchise going forward. Whether you have confidence in the Shat or not, they are more familiar with the assets than anyone. They'll pulling the trigger on moves this deadline (with direction from ownership no doubt). Come September/October, Atkins will be ninja dust.

    This is the sixth time it's happened in the NHL playoffs. Don't know about the other major sports though. Don't know if they can't, or just won't hand it out to a player on a losing team.

    If their #1 priority is making money then they should absolutely be pushing hard for a World Series. There is much more money to be made if you're a Championship team than a fringe team.

    Shocking. I never, in a hundred years, thought the Oilers could take this to game 7 given how the first 3 games went.

    Problem is this team doesn't have a great track record of cashing in and selling off assets when it's clear to most that is time. They seem to act a year too late.

    If he never wins a ring I don't think there is a comparison. There's no NBA player that's ever been the unanimous best player in the world, for years and years, and never win a ring.
