That's horseshit. Sanchez deserves a sot to at least be a late innings bullpen guy if anything and his numbers speaks for themselves in that regard. As a starter, I don't get the ******** that he NEEDS a strikeout pitch....when what he needs to do, and ALL he needs to do is to keep his walk rate per 9 way down and he will be just fine. Anybody who thinks Floyd or Happ is a better option than Sanchez in our rotation right now needs to put down the crackpipe, forget his password and back away from the messageboards. Sanchez has two higher than average fastballs and curveball and if he uses those pitches correctly, he can easily win 15-17 games every single season in this league. His numbers thus far this spring dictate he's figured something out and sending him down at this point makes no sense when his value as a late innings guy is just as high as anyone on this team.

Sanchez has yet to develop, so what do you think you know about his high walk rate resembling anything permanent? He needs some time in aaa to iron that out. His K rate is offset by the groundball percentage he throws up there. It's about time this organization develops talent such as Sanchez and Osuna. Stroman learned right away. There's no reason that Sanchez can't develop the same way. He is young, with an above average sinker, an above average curve and the potential to have a much higher K rate once he learns to mix up his pitches a little better. It's utterly asinine how so many people are willing to give up on an arm like his. With a wlk rate like that of which he throws up in the bullpen, his value as a starter is enormous. Giving up on a kid with his age, movement and velocity by saying he's ALWAYS going to walk hitters at a high rate is simply something you have no REASONABLE way to predict. Develop him like any organization should with a pitcher with his upside and you actually get a better chance that he will learn to keep his walk rate down. He's stilla f***ing kid for Christ sakes and not everyone learns at the same rate Marcus did. I'm a fan of having Sanchez in AAA, working on his delivery and stretching him out to become a starter this organization can depend on for the next five years or more. Acquiring Storen affords us that luxury. I'm not sure if this trade works for us but bullpen help in our situation allows us to let our young guys develop to be where they should. For sometime through the year, I would love to see Stroman, Osuna, Sanchez, Estrada and Dickey as our starting five. The first three can become a staple of this organization for years to come. Sanchez is a keeper 100 percent. With Marcus and him being good friends, I believe they can help each other with and maybe even develop a healthy competitive relationship on and off the field.

Jays need to find a setup man and put Sanchez back in the rotation where he belongs. I'm a firm believer in developing your young talent in order to get the best of them when they hit their prime. He's still a kid and I believe with the right coaching and his friendship with Stroman, that he can learn to repeat his delivery and cut down his walk ratio. 1. Stroman 2. Estrada 3. Sanchez 4. Dickey 5. Chavez Seeing people willing to give up on a kid who is what? 22 years old? With a sinker and a better than average curve and velocity sitting well above 95? Just makes absolutely zero sense to me. My only problem with the entire thing is that they never spent the time teaching him to repeat his delivery in the minors last year where he belonged. Because if this kid learns command? He has as much of a ceiling as Stroman does. Giving up on a kid who is five years away from the prime of his career as some people are suggesting for peanuts is just completely asinine. I'd also like to see Osuna in the rotation, only if he were to be stretched out to the point where he had more value in the rotation than that of his role as closer. Looking years down the road, I love seeing Stroman, Osuna and Sanchez as our top 3 in the rotation. Pay for an ace at that point and you're going to have a contending team for 5 years or more if management is smart enough to build a team around it that can play good defense and execute the fundamentals of the game. Last piece to that puzzle is to get yourself a manager who can effectively manage his bullpen. This bullcrap of constantly trading your prospects is a roll of the dice that can easily end up with a Phillies debacle. We have most of the pieces we need right now, they just need to develop them properly so when they hit 25 or 26 years old, the ride at the top will last a very long time.
-
Big difference in this series is that the Jays have failed to execute fundamental baseball on several occasions and that will most likely be the difference of the jays lose this series. They did it on 4 or 5 different occasions while in K.C for the first 2 and by the looks of it, nothing has changed. It's hard to win a playoff game, never mind when you're not taking advantage, while you have a pitcher on the mound who can't win a money game to save his life.
-
absolutely cannot have that ;lack of execution. Runner at second and nobody out? You HAVE to move him over. Small fundamental failures can cost you games this time of year. Hope this game doesn't end up hinging on that single run being the difference between winning and losing. I hate trolling or bagging on this team, but there's no excuse for that nonsense.

LOL, 19-18 with an ERA lingering around 4 with an average of 20 starts per season with an FIP averaging around 4.4 and this earns him 25 million? Come on, not even close. 1 year, he's worth 15 max and he won't get more than 16 or 17 I'm guessing and from his numbers, you'd have to be desperate as f*** to do that
-
I don't see how 1 good season nets this guy over 15mil per at his age. I wouldn't mind seeing them offer him a deal along the lines we offered Dickey....12-13mil per over 2 years plus an option. Anything over that? No way I'm giving in. Let him walk

Today is the day we need R. A. Dickey to step up
93 Jays replied to G-Snarls's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
Gotta have a quality start out of Dickey of course. If there was ever a time for it, it's obviously now. More noticeable to me though is that this team start coming through in critical situations like Tulo did yesterday. They're averaging only 4 runs per game right now, which I know isn't bad come playoff time. But they really need a few games where they capitalize on their scoring situations and play solid, team based, fundamental baseball. Don't need a homerun with a runner on third and less than 2 out, so stop swinging for the fences. Grounding into 4 double plays yesterday against a pitcher who is struggling is a recipe for disaster. Really am thankful that kids like Osuna, Sanchez and Stroman are getting playoff experience. It can only help us down the road. Hopefully a combination of Dickey, Price and whoever else, if needed, get it done today. I still think Toronto win this series -
Absolutely cannot have that in that situation, this time of year. a 3-2 pitch that is UP and the f***ing guy grounds into a DP? I try really hard not to blast guys, but that was an absolutely horrendous AB at a crucial point in this game. Hopefully we don't look back at that AB and see it as why we're not playing a game 4

Couldn't agree with you more brother. Command of that sinker makes him a bona fide beast. Even now when he throws it out of the bullpen, he rarely gets hit and hitters know its coming. That alone tells you how good his stuff is and if he'd learn to mix speeds a bit and throw his curve a bit more, he'd be even more of a beast. That's why I don't agree with trading an asset like JB for samardja, when we already have a younger version of him with more movement and velocity. If we're trading for an asset, maybe a lefty to throw a curve at opposing lineups. I'd sign EE over JB in a heartbeat
-
I'd put my money where my mouth is and slap down 500 bucks to a guy like Spanky to hold on to, which says that if healthy and if in the rotation for the entire year, Sanchez posts 14 wins or more with an ERA under 4....and even more, that those numbers improve after that. But we could start with that one if there are any takers. I hate the kids BB rate. But I love his stuff and I love even more that he's good friends with Stroman and that that would surely increase his confidence and learning curve. I love Sanchez although you just wanna reach out and bitchslap him sometimes.
-
Fair enough, I appreciate your candor as well. But I think the jays have enough young talent that they won't be missing any windows as widely as they may be open. Donaldson Tulo and EE aren't of the age yet where waiting a year to develop some pitching is going to put them out of their prime and render them useless as run producers and decent MLB players. That's why my original thought was to trade Bautista. His production is still high but his age and attitude are uphill battles for him at this point in his career. So I'm totally in favor of trading him at this point. I don't think this team is going to be "put on hold" bu waiting a year to see how far Osuna and Sanchez develop. So trading JB for a number two front end starter and pushing Osuna and Sanchez back wouldn't hurt neither. My plan would just leave gaping holes in our bullpen is all so forgive me for my stupidity and just thank god that people like me aren't the one making the decision in Blue Jays land!

Contrary to popular belief I don't think Bautista is all that. He's a well below average defender and whines more than a f***ing cheese tester in Switzerland. I would like to see him long gone, especially if we could get the right pieces for him in return. I just don't think this team needs a starter right now, at least not one valuable enough to the team that could make up for what we lose with his departure. My opinion is that the Jays future is in the trio of Stroman, Sanchez and Osuna as starters. Let them grown and pitch their way through. Let them develop to see what you have. Instead, it's this never ending cycle of trading young pitching for a one year shot and as a fan, I have no interest in that. I'd rather watch us lose for a year and see what experience gives that top 3 young trio for the years to come and I would love to have Norris in that mix still for not making the playoff this year. Let these pups pitch and see what they have before simply shipping it off for a crapshoot. Trading JB for relief probably is a bad idea, maybe trading him is a bad idea period? I just don't think for a single moment that the jays need any SP help whatsoever. Sanchez and Osuna and both great young arms who could BOTH easily turn out to be solid starters for years to come/
-
No worries, no need to be sorry. I just don't think this team is in need of another starter either. I see much more value in having Sanchez and Osuna start. Rebuilding a bullpen is easier for the jays IMO, given the players they already have. I mean, if we could get even aguy like that Diekeman kid from Texas? Then use the rest of the money you save to sign another bullpen arm or two? I just think way too many people are thinking we need to buy off a starter when imo, we have way more than enough as it stands if we resign Estrada. Sanchez and Osuna are natural starters and they will grow into those roles. They simply need some time and patience. Almost every Toronto fan I see wants to win now and sacrifice the future, when we HAVE the future right now, it's just going to take a few years to develop it.

I don't mean to be a troglodyte? But honestly, Let Popmey and Pillar play and you have a much better defense out there. I mean Bautista is a cross between Canseco and George bell, even on a good day! I know we'll miss his perennial 30 and 100 RBI and that's not easy to replace, but he's getting old and I think he's got decent trade value still. 1. Revere 2. Donaldson 3. Tulo 4. Encarnacion 5. Martin 6. Smoak 7. Pompey 8. Pillar 9. Goins The only thing I worry about too much there is having Martin protect the wingmeister. But this organization has to let guys like Pompey, Sanchez and Osuna play where they are meant to play and where they will for years to come. Pitching and defense wins a lot of games man, you know that! I'd love to see with a full year of experience, what Stroman, Sanchez and Osuna can do on the rotation and with Estrada and Hutch?Dickey behind them, I think they will be ok. It leaves the bullpen needing three solid arms and if Bautista could give us two of those? Buy a closer and this team can paly to win. That's my warped perception anyhow. I would have loved to see them sacrifice this year in order for next year to have a starting five of Stroman, Osuna, Norris, Estrada, Sanchez?
