I agree with the deadline plans don't change regardless, but I think we might be kind of screwed if Manoah does not come back as a frontline starter. Remember the 2015 rotation? History is repeating itself. That rotation had serviceable veteran arms but no frontline guys. Then they traded for Price. But even then they needed a returning Marcus Stroman to be their number two. I remember people said similar things about Stroman at the time, about how his return was more about 2016, maybe he can help us out of the bullpen, about how we shouldn't be counting on him. No dice, we NEEDED him and even then our pitching was on fumes by the end of the Kansas City series. We might need Manoah either way. -
This is very telling in terms of how the Blue Jays internally see our starting five given they could have set up the rotation however they wanted for this series. Clearly they have all three of those guys ahead of Berrios. I wonder if it was a four-game series if Berrios would even be ahead of Laurer at this point.

Nothing short of a sweep either way really changes much of anything with this series. The pitching matchups aren't ideal but that was always going to be the case with them setting their roation to force us to face Fried and Rodon. Just don't get swept. I know they probably chase us down eventually anyway but it would hurt too much for it to be that sudden and in our ballpark.

I assume Toronto did their due diligence and maybe they came to the conclusion that they didn't feel he was worth it for one reason or another. Maybe he didn't want to come here anyway. My only contention is that money should not be the issue and I don't think would have been the issue. If the Blue Jays' front office really wanted him I don't think Rogers would have balked at the $6 million price tag is my point.

Dude was pretty elite last year. You also are getting him for the playoffs. $6 million for major league baseball franchise and an ownership group like Rogers is absolutely nothing, nothing at all. I'm sure you'd be fine picking up a Kenley Jansen, so what's the difference another $3 million? Why are we suddenly acting like that's prohibitive money? Consider it the cost of not having to trade a prospect. It's not even long-term money, it's just for this year.

It's going to be hard to land a front line starter at the deadline, if we don't, he's the only real chance we have at improving the front of our rotation and we need to improve the front of our rotation. I know it's a long shot but we might have to hope for that long shot. -
Rogers wipes their ass with 6 million dollars. I find it impossible to believe that the team would pass on a potential ace reliever because of 6 million f***ing dollars. I find it hard to believe that most any team trying to contend would.

But did you hear that he tried to adapt to swing for launch angle and it "messed up his swing", so like a good professional he completely quit on trying to get better and went back to his usual messed up swing. And then we rewarded him for it.

Well deserved loss. I don't see a second half Renaissance for Vladdy this year because the games actually matter, and as we all know, the more the games matter the more irrelevant he becomes.

Nobody goes to the ballpark to watch Vlad. People go if the team is winning. I could have bought that argument with Ohtani, he's a unicorn. Not with Vlad.

BS argument. There is a salary limit to this team and he's working against it. Otherwise let's just sign everyone for $500 million. Assets acquired for him and the money that was used for him could have combined for something better than him.
