  1. Even a mediocre version of him will be tough. Need the ace version of Gausman today to keep us in it.
  2. I never believed in that narrative. I've heard that excuse with a lot of failed prospects. Cream rises eventually. If he was that good he would have eventually been that good. He just wasn't that good. Most prospects just aren't.
  3. Nick f***ing Kurtz. Already the second best hitter in the game?
  4. A lot of people also don't understand how elite his defense is because he makes it look easy, he doesn't make highlight real diving catches and he doesn't leap through the air because he doesn't have to. He fails the eye test and they see him as expendable.
  5. Straw is a real conundrum. He's such an obvious black hole offensively, but his defense is so elite, if Varsho gets hurt our CF defense would be exposed. We have other guys that are competent but nobody comes close to Straw and Varsho. Straw can at least put the bat on the ball decently and can do the little things like bunt and pinch run. I don't know if I want to give him up for a bit of an offensive upgrade. I think our offense is fine anyhow especially if we're reasonably healthy.
  6. Yeah I heard the Yankees weren't really in love with Suarez, they wanted better defense at a more affordable price. It's a decent move, obviously his bat isn't great but it's close to average against righties, combined with good defense. He'll be a considerable weakness offensively against lefties, but I guess they'll ride with the downside.
  7. If Jose can just keep them in the ballpark, we have a good shot.
  8. Yeah I've hardly been Varsho's biggest fan but I'm going to be happy to have him back. Hopefully he can continue to hit with the type of power he was hitting with earlier because that would be a massive boost from the left hand side. I just don't think he should bat anywhere in the top 5 or 6 with our current roster. Maybe 6th if he continues to hit for power against righties.
  9. You know what I'm not even going to go back and forth with you. These are happy times, I'm having a blast, had a lot of beers today, whatever the f*** is happening, I hope it keeps happening.
  10. Yeah I was really happy with that contract at the time. That was a miss.
  11. He should be happy he's on a Major League roster, first place team at that, and getting paid good money.
  12. That's a nice addition for them. Too reliant on dumper.
  13. It's wild. We've even had a few things go wrong for us this year. It's a magic carpet ride. Don't know where the carpet came from, but jump on for the ride.
  14. I'm in the west end and it's ominous but not coming down yet.
  15. Laurer hoping for the Bassitt rain shortened complete game special.
  16. All three records are so close right now I don't know how you can definitively state this. Given the East is the toughest division in the American League, wouldn't that mean that it's more likely that the team that wins the East will have the worst of three division winning records?
  17. This team was trending downward since 2021. If you were happy with this team then you were happy with scraping into the playoffs. They clearly were not a great team especially in the past couple of years. Especially last year, terrible year. I was here at the beginning of the season, I saw everyone's expectations for this team, people figured they might squeeze into a second or third wild card at best. And that's not factoring all the things that went wrong this season. Now everybody wants to dunk as if they saw this coming, nobody saw THIS coming. Congrats Spanky, your blind cheerleading might have finally hit the jackpot. I'm thrilled, some incredible things have happened to put us in this position and now we are legitimately a couple of pieces away from an actual World Series contender.
  18. Brewers at least there was a catalyst with Miz and Woodruff, they added a couple of ace caliber arms to an already talented team. Nothing obvious like that happened with Toronto. Barger to some extent, but this all kind of came out of nowhere. There's reasons for it of course but a lot of it we didn't see coming. If I had told you about Santander, Garcia, Varsho and Scherzer's injuries and how much time they would miss. If I had told you that by late July Vlad Guerrero was stuck on 13 home runs and 20 doubles and Bo was solid but not spectacular. That Francis was the worst starter in baseball for nearly half a season. You would have had every right to assume the season would be in the toilet and people would have been fired. And yet we're on this magic carpet ride. Baseball...
  19. That's a phenomenal Series win. Tremendous first six games out of the All-Star break considering the pitching we've faced.
