  1. Projections don't mean much in a three-game series. Haggerty could get you a key stolen base that could help win you a series, that alone might make him more valuable over three games.
  2. Jays in 3 Rays in 2 Philly in 2 Mets in 3
  3. Tapia is one seriously stupid f***.
  4. It's actually amazing how terrible Zimmer is at the plate.
  5. Okay forget the whole forfeiture thing, I still like it, but obviously people would get really pissy about it in major professional sports, so we'll just keep it to curling.
  6. Starting to doubt if they'll be on the wild card roster at all. Maybe one of them has a pinch hitter, likely Gurriel.
  7. Well I'm sure the players union might have something to say about forcing a kid to throw 200 pitches 🙂 But I get your point, I'm sure they will try to get as many innings out of that trio as they possibly can outside of any innings some of their regulars might want just to get some work in. Richards is going to start game one, I could see three or four other regulars wanting to throw at least a few pitches.
  8. Stop being so dramatic. First of all, it would rarely be used for entire games, most of the time it would be blow outs. Second of all, as far as entire games go, you could have missed any one of those things you mentioned above if the game had been canceled for any other legitimate reason. Never have teams been more concerned with protecting their assets as they are now, forfeiting games helps protect your assets and quite frankly why should teams care whether you want to go see the first round draft pick have four at bats or the left fielder pitch an inning? Now, I do understand why Major League Baseball would care and thus it's probably a pipe dream to ever see forfeits, but if it was just up to the teams themselves, I'm sure a lot of them have already thought about it and would do it in a heartbeat if they knew it wouldn't create a groundswell of s*** from media and MLB. For me? Forfeits exist to some extent in other venues, so I don't think it's a big deal. It's just the more alien to major professional sports leagues and their fan so people freak out about the idea of it.
  9. I think there are very specific circumstances where it could happen especially in blow out games. Regardless, some of these games are becoming a farce. The blue jays lineup tomorrow will probably be farce. The Mariners using a catcher to pitch in a tie game in Extra innings is a farce. Forfeits would have more honor than this stuff.
  10. I would do it, but whatever, I know it's not realistic I just hope nobody gets hurt.
  11. The Mariners just had their catcher pitching in extra innings. But they couldn't stop their hitters from winning.
  12. I would at least ask about what the penalties would be if choosing to forfeit. If they're not that bad it might be worth it. At some point some major league team is going to do this unless there's substantial penalties against it.
  13. Do you think it's more of a New York thing? I get the sense of a lot of people are using the American League record thing as code for *real* single season record. It's probably a combination of both the fact that it's a non-steroid record and that it's New York.
  14. I didn't mean you in particular, I mean all the media hoopla around what people claim to be a celebration of the American League record when in fact we all know no one ever cares about those records.
  15. No American League or national league record ever gets treated like this unless it's the major League record. So is everybody done pretending that they're celebrating the "American League" record and just admit that they're celebrating what they believe to be the major League record?
  16. Kikuchi should not be on the WC roster. Perhaps later rounds in case of mop up innings. There just isn't enough of a sample to draw enough trust in him. I don't know, if he goes out tomorrow and dominates over 5 innings, maybe you ride him while he's hot and put him on the roster, but I could see this guy falling to bits when the pressure of a big moment arrives.
  17. I'm fine either way. If Mahoah is comfortable with Kirk, I wouldn't mess with it. They should both be in the lineup anyhow and I think they both will be. People's moods move with the wind, Jansen is hot again, Kirk is cold, so people want him instead of Kirk, but it could easily flip on a dime at any given moment and Kirk could go red hot again. They are both fantastic catchers and hopefully they both are hot in the postseason.
  18. I can't speak to the rust issue with Espinal, that could be a factor, but otherwise Option 2 against a lefty is clearly the better option. Clearly. Offensively and defensively. Tapia is s***, but he's shittier against LHP. His defense is meh. Again, the rust issue could be a factor with Espinal, then again a bit of extended rest may be a good thing for him. Either way, I'm going option 2 against Ray without a second thought.
  19. Forfeits are the Bogeyman in baseball. I've been a big advocate of them in blowout games. But instead, managers throw out valuable relievers or position players and make a complete mockery of the game instead. This is another type of instance in which a forfeit is warranted. The only thing I would ensure however is that you announce that you will forfeit well ahead of time so that all 420 fans in Baltimore know not to show up.
  20. s*** what a bonus that would be if we could rest our pen. We could have white and Kikuchi pitch 162 if we had to.
  21. I have game 3 tickets that I hope I don't have to use.
  22. I do wonder about the Rays' motivation. Seems they kind of handed today's game away by using a garbage reliever to give up the lead. Cash certainly didn't manage that game the way he normally does.
  23. Thought it was his shoulder initially. That'll probably kill his playoffs. That sucks.
