  1. the dinger couldn't have come off the bat of Bob Bailor since he was in the NL when Lamp pitched for the Jays. yeah, Stieb got robbed of more "wins" than any Jays pitcher in history.
  2. I forgot about that Phil Huffman gem. I was there too. Thanks for reminding me of that memory. One of the few highlights in 1979 (besides Alfredo winning co-ROY.) The most memorable Jays day for me in the early years was a twinight doubleheader against Billy's Bronx Zoo crew at the Ex in late September 1978. The games were big for the Yankees as they were closing in on the Red Sox. Ron Guidry (25-3 that year) started the first game of the doubleheader and the Jays rocked him. The Yankees squeaked out a victory in the nightcap tho.
  3. 1983-85 was such a great time to be a Blue Jays fan! too bad the Tigers started 35-5 in 1984 and they had Willie Hernandez while we had Joey McLaughlin & Roy Lee Jackson. i've been a fan since the start. attended the snowy franchise opener as a wee little boy.
  4. What's the debate about here? Nobody thinks Colabello is an all star or even an every day player ... And nobody thinks Cola's BAPIP will continue to hover anywhere close to the Rod Carew stratosphere ... lol And Gibbons is handling the first base situation pretty much perfectly with Smoak starting against most righties and in there for late inning defence.
  5. "best available" at noonish today was in the bleachers a few rows behind either the Jays or Visitors bullpen.
  6. season ticket holders get emailed everything that they need to know.
  7. ok bro haha. Cola obviously isn't going to maintain a .406 BAPIP. But i'll ride results in the here and now when the alternative is a bat with Justin Smoak's track record. (And I like Smoak and think the two of 'em should be sharing the job this year.)
  8. it would be "disastrous" for this lineup if part time playing Cola's BAPIP dropped during a playoff run? haha meanwhile Ryan Goins is getting better results than Justin Smoak currently on this playoff run.
  9. who really cares (right now) that Cola's BAPIP will drop next year and in the future? we're trying to win right now and Cola's swinging a magic wand with his hits touching green out there (luck or not.) on the other hand, Smoak's slash line the last 3 months is ... June: .213/.275/.468 July: .191/.283/.468 Aug: .179/.190/.375 with production like that (if Travis comes back) might as well slap a trapper on Ryan Goins and see if he can pick 'em at 1b. (and I like Smoak ... as a part time player ... and Gibby's been using him properly)
  10. I don't know how you're "the opposite?" ... I think we're agreeing that we like to hear the sounds of the game/stadium over mindless non-stop conversation.
  11. I go to most home games, so don't watch as many Jays telecasts as others, but my main complaint with Buck & Pat is just way too much conversation. I prefer other broadcast crews who have longer stretches of silence and let the sounds of the game and visuals do the talking.
  12. I like Smoak for what he is ... a part time player. For his fans who moan everytime he's not in the lineup (and make it sound like he's the second coming of Lou Gehrig)... Ryan Goins has been more productive offensively the last couple of months than the big slugging first baseman.
  13. Gibby has handled the Smoak-Cola first base situation pretty much perfectly.
  14. While I like Gibbons personally, I don't think he's a great manager. (I think he's fine tho.) But I don't think there are any GREAT managers in terms of really affecting the win/loss column significantly. Always thought that the Jays either are good enough to make the playoffs or they're not ... regardless of whether or not Gibbons (or insert any big name manager) is at the helm.
  15. what happened to your "goodbye AA" signature? you, glory et al. were chomping at the bit to run him out of town up until a couple of weeks ago LOL
  16. with each passing beautiful day, Gibbons becomes more and more entrenched as Blue Jays skipper ... Enjoy the bittersweet ride!
  17. on 2 days rest? lol
  18. Edwin will DH whenever he wants to ... hopefully his finger/hand issue will heal with a couple of days off. Martin isn't catching every game the rest of the way. Navarro works well with Estrada, and another lefty stick in Yankee stadium ain't a bad thing.
  19. Jays radio IN ... Jays tv OUT (just like the good ol' days.)
  20. heard Wilner say today that Buck & Pat (just like local Jays TV broadcasters of the past) would be out for the playoffs (FWIW)
  21. back in the day when the Jays were in the playoffs ('85-'93 era) the Jays TV broadcasters stepped aside for NBC's crew etc.
  22. I don't think this edition of the Yankees will feel "pressure" by the Blue Jays in early August. Teixeira didn't even know that they were playing the Jays this weekend until a reporter asked him about it yesterday. Most predicted the Yankees to finish 4th or 5th in the East this season ... so they still can be viewed as the "underdogs."
  23. with each win, Gibbons moves one step closer to returning as skipper ... enjoy the bittersweet ride!
  24. let's catch the Royals too (currently 7 back) and get home field throughout the playoffs
