I just read Dickey's book this weekend ("Wherever I Wind Up") ... was never in a rush to pick it up haha ... amazing that he won the Cy Young after his book came out on his life story.
well it kind of depends on exactly which prospect(s) you have to move to get exactly which pitcher(s).
if the price is too high then no.
if the price is reasonable then yes.
a 5-way tie for first would be quite something ...
wonder what has been the closest divisional final standings in mlb history?
(i.e. the fewest wins separating a division's first place team from its last place team?)
you could flip Navarro & Smoak (doesn't really matter), but otherwise this is pretty much the way the lineup should be against a righty and with Martin having a tough game ahead of him catching Dickey tomorrow afternoon.
"key series?" . . . oh no, Donaldson & Martin are resting with the Jays having just 91 games remaining ... including 12 more against the unstoppable Rays!!!!
a couple of games late ... but congratulations to John for managing his 1000th game in the big leagues!
looking forward to seeing Gibby getting drenched with champagne in the clubhouse in October.
best for the Jays to have just the minimum one all-star rep (obviously Donaldson) and give all other possible invitees a 4 day break from the festivities ... (just don't go down to the same resort in the Dominican that Casey Janssen went to last year)
so it might as well happen with Gibbons because Gibby is good people.
imagine if Gibbons was dismissed at the time of the McCown speculation ...
the managerial change certainly would've been the main reason for the team catching fire, right?
not the most fearless prediction ... with the starting pitching beginning to look not too shabby (and Norris comin' back up) ... plus Bautista being back in the outfield freeing up the DH slot and 1b for Smoak ... plus Bautista & Edwin's #s likely improving ....plus Travis & Saunders comin' back ... plus a probable deadline deal ... hey maybe they can put out their best lineup more often than not in the 2nd half? (which they've been unable to do even once so far) and so ...
there will be a 2nd half run with or without Gibbons.
don't know about other sections, but where I sit (low row behind the plate) the ushers know (or at least recognize) the regular attendees and ask all unfamiliar faces headed for prime seats for their tickets.
yeah, if they had any kind of job security then the Reyes, Bautista and even Saunders issues probably would've been handled differently. but with an axe hanging over their heads, they ain't goin' down with the dos Joses on the DL.
just gotta get to .500 by the all star break ... and by then, if the team is relatively healthy (which includes both Bautista & Saunders in the outfield) ... and with a quality pitcher hopefully added ... finish strong and take the division with less than 90 wins.
Reyes back in the lineup ... Bautista back in the outfield ... and (most importantly) the starting pitching staying steady ... and the Jays are capable of reeling off 10 in a row with or without Gibbons.
but some on here are adamant that Alex isn't allowed to make a significant move (especially one that adds salary) since Rogers (or the new Prez) will be firing him shortly?
I don't think anybody is saying Rogers is going to spend more on the team this year with Alex in charge.
Apparently, Alex maxed out the budget and left no wiggle room at the deadline last season.
If the budget is simply the same as last season, then (correct me if i'm wrong) Alex still has something left in the piggybank and will be able to afford a 2 month rental at the trade deadline (if the Jays are in contention at that time.)
