  1. That's my take. I'm shocked so many of you are against having ample SP'ing depth when failure of our starting pitchers is the most likely thing to derail the 2016 Blue Jays. That said - I agree they may have mis-read the market a bit. They got Chavez before re-signing Estrada or signing Happ. If either of those guys don't sign here and we pass up Chavez, we're looking at Sanchez/Floyd as our 4/5 with Hutch as our #6 and nothing behind him. That would be a terrible position to be in.
  2. yep - this is your fault. I couldn't comment on how Boxy must slay rockstars (after you locked that thread) so I hijacked this one.
  3. She's bad at running blooper clips? Is that even a skill?
  4. this is an excellent post. much better than mine.
  5. Let your juvenile side live a little man. I don't know about you, but I still enjoy checking out boobs/cleavage on a daily basis. Or when a t-bar slips out the back of the pants? awesome. I suspect all of us still love that stuff - even though we can just go home and fap to porn. Personally - I just do both
  6. Boxy - I'm more interested in the ladies you're slaying.....Jackie Redmond isn't hot? must be nice to be you!!!! I mean she's not supermodel material, but I'm not going to pretend like I'd push her out of bed...
  7. I'll take your word for it. I'm saying "most people" don't understand this because they see so many "big name" teams that spend a lot who aren't winning. Dodgers spend 25% more than the 2nd highest spending team last year and weren't really contenders to win the NL last year. Angels continue to spend a ton and never win s***. Yanks haven't won in 6 years despite often spending twice as much as the rest of the league. The Mets were a top spending team for years there, while also being hot garbage....etc., etc. The Leafs used to spend more than the rest of the league pre salary cap and we all know how that went. Personally - I never really associate big spending with winning....although I do suspect the numbers suggest that in the long run, it gives you a higher chance. The Shatkins at $100M vs. Dom at $150M is a great example. $$ helps, but isn't the be all, end all.
  8. Because there's a ton of examples where high priced teams suck balls. Philly spend more on salaries last year (9th) than the Jays did (10th) and were the worst team in baseball. The Tigers and Red Sox were both top 4 in spending and both were last place teams...
  9. I watched it, but missed this moment. GIFs people....
  10. which clearly went wayyyy over my head. I'm slow...My bad.
  11. "hey you pair who didn't get the memo about wearing a suit....get on the ends!"
  12. I agree - but it just goes back to the "don't be a dickhead - or there will be consequences" argument. Nobody ever threw at Johnny Olerud b/c he's a beauty who didn't piss anyone off.
  13. um....they do. In hockey - they fight him. Society shouldn't have to "accept" dickheads.
  14. There's a very good chance we'll need him as a starter at some point this season (teams typically use 8-10 starters a year). If he's in the pen and the need for him to start arises (which is typically an abrupt need), then you're going to send him down and stretch him out over 3-4 starts....that means its going to take 20+ days for him to be ready to be in the Jays rotation (assuming the transition doesn't hurt his arm and all goes well). That means you'll need 3-4 committee starts (or starts from other AAA guys) in the meantime. I'm not sure his value as our 4th best bullpen arm is worth it...especially if the long term goal is for him to start. I guess if Sanchez is your #6 guy (first guy to step in when needed), and Hutch is in AAA, you can use him while you stretch Sanchez out. That's likely the best case scenario...and is based on the assumption that Hutch is better than the average AAA schmuck or committee approach.
  15. I think MikeM is bang on. The form of retaliation is up for debate. In baseball, it's always been the bean ball. In hockey, it's the big goon punching your lights out. In basketball, it's hay makers and bitch slaps. In football, it's huddles and face masks (seemingly the 15 year major penalty seems to prevent a lot of retaliation in football.....)
  16. I'd prefer the bat toss - ala Machado. #pinetarcosts$$$
  17. Yeah, yeah - Jeter won a bunch of GG's at shortstop too when he should have been moved off to 3rd or 2nd too...
  18. I guess. To me - SS is to 2nd what CF is to LF. You need more range/arm to play CF & SS....otherwise...pretty similar. Wasn't Goin's better defensively at SS than 2nd base last year? Either way, he didn't look out of place.
  19. and how many games did you watch KK play?
  20. Ok maybe that's a little too simplistic, perhaps LF to CF is like 2nd to SS. They are similar positions. CF and SS, you need a little more range and a little more arm. Most LFers can't play CF and most 2nd basemen can't play SS. The 2nd best SS is likely significantly better defensively than the best 2nd basemen in the league, same goes for CF. We've separated the infielders forever...why not the OFers?
  21. Compare LF to CF.....I think that's a massive difference. Like SS to 1st base. We've always differentiated the infield, which results in either Simmons or Crawford not getting recognized (pre-trade)....while some Adrian Gonzalez is winning a GG at 1st.
  22. Wouldn't that be like the 2nd best shortstop complaining he didn't get a GG, while some 2nd basemen, who's worse than him defensively did? LF-CF-RF are different positions, just as SS and 2nd base are IMO. People just don't like change.
  23. Time to get your eyes checked.
