  1. Wait - did Buck just tell us that Reggie Jackson when to a shorter bat because he didn't want to sacrifice the quality of the wood (implying he would be if he went to a lighter bat). Just fire him please. So much dumn.
  2. I think Smoak got it right on the back of the knee (feels like there's a proper name for that spot, which is not the back of the knee). That's sensitive as f*** and I bet he's sore as hell today. Severino is so s***** he can't even hit people properly. He has good control of the bean ball, but poor command (or vice versa - whatever).
  3. Think about this for a second.....throwing a ball 95 MPH at someone's ribs is perfectly acceptable and deemed "part of the game". [joker voice] Suggest a player throw the bat at the pitcher and everyone loses their f***ing minds [/joker voice]. It's a little bizarre no? The best part is the reasoning is probably because the pitcher can control his weapon more than the batter and thus is less likely to cause serious injury...It shall only be deemed "part of the game" if you have precise control of your weapon...
  4. Is there a link on this? this is fantastic news.
  5. Fine - I'm off by saying throwing at heads...but throwing at ribs and the back is the "preferred" bean ball location and that act is accepted throughout baseball. I'm just curious who decided that's acceptable - but throwing the bat back at the pitcher isn't (and how do we get to that point). Who gets to make those decisions? Goose Gossage? I mean f***, the Hal McRae barrel roll/body check at 2nd base was somehow accepted back in the day. How does something as ridiculous like McRae taking the SS into left field and/or a 95 MPH fastball to the ribs ever get deemed "part of the game"?
  6. Perhaps he should undo his pony tail, man up and deal with the issue himself. Like a man.
  7. I'm certain they were in their clubhouse and/or by their fans. Hell - I think fans of the other 29 teams in MLB cheered on Odor.
  8. I'm just pissing around. I don't understand how throwing 95 into someone's back became "accepted" in the game. I still do think it would be awesome to see the bat toss though.
  9. I think it would be amazing. I'm fascinated as to how/why throwing a 95 MPH fastball at someone's back/head on purpose is "accepted" in the sport. I mean Happ had no direct beef with Headley at all, nor did Severino with Smoak. It's really the only random act of violence that is generally accepted. Why is that and how did that come about? I'd love to see someone buck the trend and randomly haul off on the catcher when the pitcher hits him on purpose - or clock the pitcher with a flying bat. I mean if you're pissed off at someone - walk up, tell him that and punch him in the face. If we're going to act like f***ing pussies on the field and randomly throw objects at people - let's try something different once in awhile.
  10. I'm just saying if the message came from the team/bench/players - then Happ is just doing what everyone wanted. You say Happ could have handled himself differently - well so could have Travis and Benoit. They could have said this is bad news and I'm sticking near the back. All 5'6 of Travis runs into a gathering of yelling men (it wasn't a fight), gets himself hurt and you want to blame someone else. That's dumn. There wasn't even a fight. It was pushing and yelling. I put this 100% on Travis.
  11. Well that's incredibly stupid (although I know you're right). Pitchers throw a ball 95 MPH at you, then typically throw their glove at you when you charge. The hitter is at such a disadvantage as only the helmet throw is "accepted" by the unwritten rules of baseball (which are f***ing stupid). Look how much better that fight is. I wanna see more bats! If you're going to fight - then f***ing fight. Baseball fights are as stupid as two enforcers fighting in hockey.
  12. Has it been confirmed that Happ acted alone in throwing at Headley? Otherwise - why are we blaming him again?
  13. I actually thought for a second last night that Smoak was just going to haul off on Sanchez with his bat after he got hit. I'm a little surprised hitters don't use the bats more often to retaliate when they get beaned on purpose like last night. I don't expect them to try and break the catchers knee or anything, but I maybe a butt end under the catchers mask or to his gut...or a bat toss at the pitcher (which would have been great last night with Severino charging the plate). I understand it would probably come with a massive suspension - but really - why should it? The ball throw 95+ at you is as/if not more dangerous a weapon as the bat would be. It sure would add a lot more spice to the bench clearing brawl (if we insist on keeping that stuff in the game).
  14. That's baseball for you...and it's what makes baseball the best game on earth. So amazing.
  15. Check out the Scandinavian countries. They all do it and are renowned as some of the best countries in the world to live in...
  16. It's an interesting debate. Gooden didn't actually die - but cocaine essentially killed him. In Prior's case - it was injury. The only time he wasn't excellent was when he was trying to pitch while hurt. Personally - I think you put in a locker room exhibit and tell his story....probably with .gif's of his reaction to the Stanton HR and of his nasty slider just on repeat because that would be awesome.
  17. This paystub suggests he got paid $427,098.49 for 2 weeks pay (May 1st - May 15th). I guess some of the taxes and deductions may change from paycheck to paycheck - but he'd be taking home over $11M if he got 26 of these...
  18. I still think it would be appropriate to have a thread dedicated to recording all the incredibly stupid things that Buck & Tabby say throughout the season...perhaps a thought for next year.
  19. This seems incredibly appropriate. Include the stories of his struggles to leave Cuba, tell stories to demonstrate his character and the joy he brought to life and the game and tell how he was one of the best players even to throw the god damn baseball. He will never be forgotten and I fully expect the Hall will do something to help ensure that.
  20. Do you want Doc Gooden in the HOF too? I mean after his age 20 and 21 seasons he probably was THE greatest young pitcher the game has ever seen. Then he tried cocaine and the rest is history.
  21. Isn't she pregnant with his child too? I thought I heard that.
  22. Couple of runs here to seal the deal boys. Smell the blood
  23. I can't believe Eddie made that throw
  24. Nobody likes watching Saunders run Tabby.
  25. Can tabby just shut up please
