  1. Edgar Martinez starts his career late, has a season cut short by the strike, finishes with 10+ more WAR over his career, while being a significantly better hitter (and even a better base runner) and doesn't get in over Vlady? Utter. f***ing. stupidity.
  2. Stupid question - Are you allowed to bring bottled of water in? I thought there was concern you'd chuck it on the field or something (not that you couldn't do that with the can of beer or whatever you buy once you're in there. Maybe I'm mixing this up with the airport, where they assume you're bottle of water is going to explode.
  3. My point was we could have signed a better backup catcher years ago and let him catch Dickey...someone capable of starting more games to keep Russell fresh and as insurance in case of injury (in response to the "finally - we don't need to carry Thole anymore and can finally sign a solid backup catcher" movement).
  4. I'm curious to see how things work out in Atlanta with whoever catches Dickey. It's either going to work out and I'll be pissed that we carried Thole all these years for no reason - or it's going to be a failure and AA/Shatkins is going to look smart. I'm shocked Atlanta hasn't signed Thole to a minor league deal yet.
  5. So you want more Smoak do ya???
  6. For f*** sakes we're about a year away from having self driving cars....Surely to god there's way to actually measure bat speed, length of swing and time (or distance) in the "hitting zone" so we don't have to rely on 60 year old people and their eyes?
  7. Moss ticks a lot of boxes for us....but I find it hard to get on-board with another player with a K% in the upper twenties. Maybe contact is a new fad or something, but I'd rather see us mix in another hitter who doesn't strikeout so much...
  8. The good news is Shapiro suggested he'll be looking for the best value ($$/WAR) on the market, regardless of position. That screams Valbeuna/Moss to me over a backup catcher or almost any reliever.
  9. JaysFan4Ever - you need to break up that text. It's daunting to read man.
  10. It appears we can't attract any of the solid backups because nobody wants to sit behind Russell (when there are other opportunities to play more throughout the league). The remaining backup catchers are f***ing hot garbage and likely don't offer much more upside than Jimenez (besides they have more experience). IMO, if we're going to "upgrade" our backup catcher, we're best to do that via trade. Christ maybe we can pull a miracle and trade Smoak for some 3rd catcher with a hint of upside. Valbeuna + a reliever + Bud Norris on a minor league deal and it will be one hell of an offseason IMO.
  11. I still think Valbuena's the guy - simply because it eliminates Smoak from the equation. I'm cautiously optimistic that Upton is going to play better for the Jays this year. If you take the last 2 partial season in SD, he was a 3 WAR player. He'd seemingly returned to the player he was in Tampa (and not the hot garbage he was in Atlanta). Of course when he got to Toronto, he was back to being hot garbage, but I think we underestimate how difficult it is to change teams mid-season. We saw this with Tulo as well. I think there's an outside chance he's able to give us a league average bat (wRC+ of 100) with above average base running (something we could really use) and solid defense.
  12. Does this what the Joe Blanton market will look like? if so - lets get in on it.
  13. Wow - this is significantly more money than I thought he'd get. Good for him.
  14. Understatement of the day.
  15. Is that picture current?????
  16. I thought there were reports that Pagan's hair was in decline?
  17. yeah - I don't think that's restricted to Toronto. People are dumb everywhere.
  18. I'm just busting your balls - enjoy Chicago. Last time I was there I did the Wrigley Tour (it was after the baseball season), Boat Tour and a Bears game (for $250 a ticket). I didn't have to pay for the hotel, but with the flight and some quality dinner + a night out at Second City I'm sure I spent $1,000. If you have time - the Second City was experience was awesome. Highly recommended, as is the architectural boat tour.
  19. Trumbo - 2.2 WAR in 159 games (667 PA's). Valbuena - 2 WAR in 90 games (342 PA's). Valbuena is a significantly better target.
  20. Yes. Absolutely.
  21. How much money do you guys think we have left to spend? I fully expect we see a combo of Pompey/Upton/Zeke in LF, but given what seems to be a weak market - I'd love to see us sign both Valbeuna and Moss. It appears you should be able to get both for $15M or so. Cut your losses with Smoak, option Zeke to AAA and leave Pompey in AAA as depth. Bats RF Donaldson 3rd Morales DH Tulo SS Pearce/Valbeuna 1st Travis 2nd Moss/Upton LF Martin C Pillar CF That's a deep, solid lineup. One capable of winning the World Series IMO. It doesn't appear Shatkins is going to chase expensive relievers...but would we have cash left to get Moss & Valbuena + a solid reliever?
  22. This is good news, but why does everyone want to move him to LF? I thought we concluded that LF gets a lot more action/attempts than RF. I'd leave him in RF.
  23. He seems surprised by it at least...anyway, it was just a joke.
  24. f*** - one too many jokes about the eligibility in the WBC!!!
  25. What would you want for the Ward one? My kids need an endless supply of balls to hit in the front yard so we can take the others off your hands too! hahaha. I let my kids use my Travis Snider signed ball last summer when we seemingly lost all the other ones.
