If the comp pick is valued at $10M, then full market value for Jose is probably 2 years $30M (assuming he could give us 4.5 WAR in 2 years). I'd probably do that....as long as the "other" OF we get is strong defensively (Dyson or Puig please)
Pillar can't hit either and he provides a ton of value to this team. There's a chance if given 550 PA's that Pompey could provide as much value as Revere or Dyson could (2 names often mentioned as options).
Valbuena in a platoon at 1st with Pearce with Pearce platooning with Upton in LF (Pearce plays vs. RHP) would probably be very effective and provide a significant amount of versatility to the team. Ideally you'd pair that with a RF who's above average defensively.
Christ that would have paired well with Fowler playing RF. Puig & Dyson would both be good fits in that scenario now.
Just think - we can collect 2 comp picks for Jose and EE (valued at $20M) and sign Valbuena to a 2 year $18M deal...it's like getting him for free - and he was significantly better than Jose last year. It's a win-win.
No it's not. The top 10 picks are protected. Those teams would surrender their next highest pick.

Rockies surrendered the 11th overall pick to sign Ian Desmond. They are dumb.
There's absolutely no reason to give him the 3rd year anymore. Turner just signed for $16M and he's a far superior player. 2 years $30M is about as high as we should go for Jose. Nobody else in baseball is going to give him that much + a draft pick. He has no options left. His arrogance backfired immensely.
Half the fans think Jose is still good defensively with his rocket arm in RF (see Rogers commercial with him throwing 92). Let's cater to what the fans want...said no good GM ever.
Daily fantasy sports is dead? I got an e-mail from Fanduels asking me to send personal information to them and blah blah blah, couldn't be bothered and donated the 20 odd dollars I still had on the site to them.
