  1. I mean maybe....but hear me out. We keep Pillar and he plays everyday in CF. Grichuk is playing everyday in RF after being extended.....what if Teo actually hit at the start of the year and took some sort of grasp of the LF spot and say Davis (or McKinney, or Alford...someone) stepped up and was playing really well as our 4th OF. Gurriel gets sent down because he can't throw to 1st. He posts a 95 wRC+ in AAA......would he have gotten a shot to play LF in the majors? How awful would that have been? All so Pillar can give us 0.5 to 1 WAR? I mean even right now...we've discovered the Gurriel is probably a player...maybe even a really good player. He's locked into LF and Grichuk's our RFer. If Pillar's here, we wouldn't be getting an extended look at Teo. Now Teo's probably nothing...but he's looked much more comfortable since returning and showing he can play a little CF. Now he's starting to hit a to. I'd rather see what Teo has over the next 50 to 60 games than watch Pillar in CF.
  2. I mean - so what? If our OF had combined for 3 WAR this season...would it matter? The reality is - there's a decent change that Alford, McKinney, Teo, Davis and even Gurriel all useless players. The playing time that's opened up in the OF actually let us find out that Gurriel might be a player.....maybe a really good player. We extended Grichuk, so we knew he was playing everyday. If Pillar was still in CF everyday...would there be enough time to get an extended look at McKinney, Teo and Gurriel in LF? Save $5M and get an extended look at all those guys this year v. paying Pillar $5M to put up 0.5 to 1 WAR in the OF....I'm all for the former.
  3. like from the 's***' to 'shittiest' cliff?
  4. I don't really care to go back and verify this, but what Jim might be trying to say is that we know what Pillar is. He's decent and into the stage of his career where players like him typically decline - sometimes rapidly (as they rely on speed). There's a great chance that Alford, McKinney and Teo suck - but all 3 are still young players who are just entering their prime. There's a chance that one of them becomes a solid major league starting OFer that can help this team from 2020 to 2025 (which appears to be our window). It seems to me (this might just be a skewed perspective) that with all the technology we have these days - the chances of correcting some issues and turning talent a below average player (with talent) into an average or even above average player is much higher than it was 10-15 years ago. So - I have no problem with the Jays moving Pillar and giving those guys a chance to play. Teo seems like the best bet right now to be that guy. He has the tools and seems to have worked a s*** ton to tighten up his defense.
  5. Yeah I don't know about that. For a long time there he was posting negative WAR in SF too. He got hot in June, which has put him above replacement value and has been his 'norm' in July. He's streaky as f***. There's a chance he reaches 1 WAR and a change he finishes the season with 0 WAR.
  6. Kyle Wright is on his way to becoming a Glasnow comparison...
  7. Cashner - 1.5 WAR in 101 innings Bailey - 1.6 WAR in 96 innings No contender would look forward to starting either in a playoff game. You must mean they are not the same as Stroman (which is obvious).
  8. Sorry Grant - I misread your original post about Giles and Tucker. That said, you're now suggesting we should get Kirilloff for Giles and 'another body' Kirilloff is ranked 13th overall, while Tucker is ranked 10th (by MLB). Now I'm once again confused on how you value Giles.
  9. yeah - so we're not getting Kyle Tucker for Giles Grant. jesus f***.
  10. We use Gotham Office....switched from Arial Narrow. Both good options. TNR is for old people.
  11. Same can be said for Homer Bailey... Contenders are desperate for pitching right now.
  12. I just mean compared to what we thought his bat would be. He was the 4th overall pick who was posting wRC+'s between 180 and 190 in AA as a 22 year old and A/A+ as a 21 year old and then a 131 wRC+ as a 22 year old in his first taste of the bigs. Perhaps I as off base, but I expected him to be a 130-140 wRC+ hitter - not someone who's struggling to keep it above 110 - down with the likes of Avisail Garcia and Starlin Marte on the leader board.
  13. Your troll game is weak sir.
  14. Excellent point. Great comparison.
  15. We should trade him to TB. TB has gotten 0.6 WAR in 41 innings out of him the past 2 years. Everyone else? -1.3 WAR in 48 innings.
  16. Man I disagree. I really enjoyed my trip to Boston, along with the Fenway tour and the game and a half I saw there. I'd go back in a heartbeat. For me, the history and nostalgia are what elevate a good game to a great game.
  17. Better ask tercet. He's probably seen at bats and spoken to his parents.
  18. What are the current thoughts on RF v. LF? Do you put the better defender in LF because there are more balls hit to left field? Do you put the guy with the big arm in RF even if he's stronger defensively (range) than your LFer?
  19. Sign me up for that one.
  20. It's kind of sad to me that Kyle Schwarber kinda sucks. The guy transforms his body to make himself defensively viable and now it's his bat that's in question.
  21. What would it take to acquire Nick Pivetta from Philly?
  22. Axford was actually having a better season (before he was traded) than Daniel Hudson is having this year (ERA be damned)....let that sink in for a second.
  23. Buck does. He thinks every contender in baseball is calling about him.
  24. I expect that Galvis wants to be a starter still - but I'd love to see us keep him as our utility infielder long term. From everything I've read, he's a great leader and brings those intangibles a young team like the Jays could use.
