  1. It's the stadium. It's so gorgeous that people keep showing up. I wish Pittsburgh would get new ownership. It's a great sports City with a great stadium.
  2. um - he was coming off a 4.7 WAR season and the NL Cy Young award. His velocity was also trending up (leading to improved results). He was also owed next to nothing, which was about all we could afford at the time (apparently). To be fair, it was similar to the Pirates trading Glasnow + Meadows for Archer (especially when you factor in Dickey's reasonable extension) - with the difference being their age.
  3. Happ wasn't it?
  4. In the minor league portion of it.
  5. They're still pissed we got Biagini from them and are doing everything they can to get their revenge.
  6. Musgrove is coming off a 3.3 WAR season, is 27 and has 3 years of control and this guy wouldn't move Reece f***ing McGuire and his 80 wRC+ AAA bat for him. That is mind numbing stupidity.
  7. It's all BS Laika - this FO does absolutely nothing. They are losers who sit on their hands and crunch numbers all day. They won't spend money.
  8. Gardner back to the Yanks. 1 yr $12.5M + a $20M option for 2021.
  9. Hasn't history proven that this approach is generally more successful (even though on paper it seems flawed)? Paying FA's for their past results has never been an overly successful approach.
  10. Deadpool is right - don't target Calhoun please.
  11. What's that from Hurl?
  12. Our rotation is Anderson, Shoemaker and a bunch of rookie or near rookies and you're complaining that we signed an innings water to protect the young arms? That's a new level of....never mind.
  13. He's also 1 year removed from being the best reliever in baseball... Risk/Reward. Wish we were in on him
  14. Yeah I was looking at JD Davis at 1st or DH....much like Dom Smith would be
  15. success is irrelevant Olerud - getting s*** done is the #1 criteria. Todd - you sound like Kenny Powers FFS.
  16. Dom Smith, JD Davis, Nimmo - I'd be all over these guys. All 3 could end up being backup/bench players for the Mets next year, which is kind of insane. Speaking of the Mets - is Cespedes alive? I mean if we aren't going to add some quality players via FA a year early (which it appears we won't), I'd use our payroll flexibility to take on Cespedes and Lowrie if we could land some combination of Nimmo, JD Davis, Smith - they're all 24 to 26 and entering their prime. They'd go well with our core.
  17. I wouldn't think twice about trading McGuire for Nimmo. 138 PA's in the majors isn't enough to make me forget about the wRC+ of 80 in AAA over the past couple of years. I'd say there's a 95% chance he's a backup and with the young guys in A ball, I think we'll survive both short and long term.
  18. Really? I mean in CF yes, but at the corner is he that bad? Sign me up for a Nimmo, who's now entering his prime and is a career 130 wRC+ hitter (over 1,000 PA's). He reminds me a lot of Biggio to be honest. Career 15 BB%.
  19. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/joey-gallo/14128/stats?position=OF
  20. If you're affected by the propaganda - you should stop following sports. Nearly everything that GM's and the media say is utter ********. Stop watching analysis shows and the pre and post game interviews man...it's all BS.
  21. Fair enough, but if Mazara didn't jump to the MLB as a 20 year old - instead he tore up A/AA/AAA, he'd probably would have been considered one of the top prospects in baseball and then if he made the jump to the MLB and produced like he did last year, wouldn't we all look at him differently and suggest Texas got hosed? It's the failure to improve at the MLB level (and loss of control) that generates this distaste in our mouth for Mazara and I think it's a little unfair. I see this as a reasonable risk for the White Sox. I'm going to give up now b/c you're way smarter than I am and we'll see what happens.
  22. If you don't want to sit - then don't suck.
  23. Royals manager Mike Matheny said Tuesday that Salvador Perez (elbow) could see "considerable time" at first base next season. That's the most Royals thing I've ever read.
  24. AA did the exact same thing - he retooled, built the farm system and then put all his chips in the pot (perhaps somewhat foolishly or as a last ditch effort) to go for it. We weren't throwing big FA dollars around every year in the AA days man. It's amazing how quickly people forget and it skews their perception.
  25. Fair enough Laika - I trust ya, but he's still a guy who posted a 124 wRC+ as a 23 year old in A+ ball. A .157 ISO doesn't seem to suggest this violent bat speed is producing the results yet. I mean older prospects work out and Walker may, but Mazara was hitting 20 hrs and as just 5% below league average in the major leagues the same time Walker was in A+ ball. I fully expect multiple teams believe they can tap into Mazara's unrealized potential.
