  1. Wouldn't we try and target pitchers who we could lock up for 3-5 years who are going to be core pieces when we enter our 'window'? Isn't the intent to perhaps add them a year early? I mean sure - sign Hill or some of these veterans or bounce back candidates for 1 or 2 years with the intent of improving the team and giving yourself potential trade chips....but I also hope we seriously explore adding pitchers who are going to still be here when we enter our competitive window in 2021-2023. For me that screams Zach Wheeler, but it could also include Cole/Stras (unlikely). I guess it could include Odorizzi or Gibson on a 3 year deal also. Personally - I'd like to see one pitcher from each category. Wheeler and Wood or Porcello
  2. Grant - if you didn't enjoy that game, you may not want to tune in this October. Probably best to walk re-runs of the 1985 ALCS if you prefer lots of contact and manufactured runs.
  3. Fans are stupid. In that situation, the benefit of the doubt has to go to the batter. I think they got that call right.
  4. Good call buddy.
  5. What a ball game. Playoff baseball is the tits.
  6. Strasburg's change is filthy. I'd assume he finishes the game for the Nats. Nats are winning this game.
  7. of course he will. Grass is also green.
  8. Buck - "Adames won't be running here with the lefty up. Wendle is a good hitter" Finishing up strong!
  9. Meadows up - runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out Buck - "in this situation you either walk him or try and get him out - you don't try and work around him" WTF?
  10. I mean you're probably right - it's bad for baseball.....but I love watching TB. I'd love to see TB and/or Oakland get in and upset the big boys.
  11. That is a bit sad. They have a pretty nice stadium and they had some crazy dedicated fans when they were good (Baerga, Manny, Thome, Lofton, Sandy days).
  12. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/felix-hernandez-and-the-rocky-road-to-cooperstown/ There's an article on it. TLDR, but I caught in it that his resistance to change and conditioning may have accelerated his decline.
  13. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/hail-to-the-king/ How can you not love baseball. What a season for Mariner fans. Starts with Ichiro's retirement, ends with Felix. There will soon be 2 fewer numbers to choose from for future Mariner players.
  14. awe s***! I missed that news. I thought he was a lock to swipe a few more bases and get to 40-40. That 40-40 list is a good trivia question. Everyone forgets Soriano.
  15. That's an excellent point. He is going to get older every year.
  16. Despite never really having playoff success - Beane is a legendary GM in my books.
  17. So were the Padres and they got Machado. The Phillies were s*** from 2013 to 2017 and got Harper.
  18. This s*** isn't true. We all would have said that about AA before he traded the farm for Reyes, Johnson, Dickey, etc. and signed Martin. AA was widely viewed as a guy who's mandate was to reduce payroll and rebuild the farm system - and he did that - right up until he decided not to and went all in. We've had VERY recent experience with a GM who's able to have multiple approaches based on where the team is on the win curve (or some potential other reasons). Why is it so hard to fathom that our current FO might be capable of doing the same?
  19. It goes to show you that with some creativity - there are many different ways to win baseball games. Long gone are the days when a strong rotation is required to be successful.
  20. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/oliver-drake-changed-his-game-and-found-a-home/ Surprised we couldn't find some innings for Drake this year. He's been worth 0.5 WAR+ for 3 straight years now.
