  1. holy f*** - that fell apart quickly.
  2. Now this is an interesting debate. Based on Brandy's comments, it does sounds like Roy had a problem. That initially made me sad because I thought so highly of him. But after letting it sink in a bit, I'm no longer sad. A lot of people (both good and bad people) struggle with issues and develop bad habits. I have no idea what was going on in his life and I'm not about to start judging him over it. I'm going to choose to remember him for the class act he was on the field. A true competitor and one of the very best players to ever dawn the Blue Jays uniform.
  3. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/wild-world-series-tactics-1990-1993/ little breakdown of coaching in the early '90's
  4. There's more to it than just who's the guy you want. If I can get Veen underslot and leverage that to get a top 30 talent with our 42nd pick - than I think that's a sexy option and is something this FO has done before.
  5. Stroman has challenged Kyle Larson to a UFC fight once Stroman's career is over because Larson dropped an N-bomb during the iRacing thing. He also wants him suspended from Nascar for life and notes it's an embarrassment to Jackie Robinson that Kyle Larson drives #42. Seems like a reaction from someone who wants attention and/or has anger issues.
  6. BlueRocky - FFS, the Zac Veen videos... I think I like him over both the pitchers.
  7. The Franco/Lindor comp looks applicable, as does the Vlady/Manny comp. The question is - who would you rather have? Manny? Lindor? Tatis? Acuna?
  8. Wouldn't the hotel staff have to live at the hotel? Can't have them potentially bringing it into the hotels.
  9. Would you carry like a 40 man roster in Arizona with 14 not on the active roster but training and remaining in game shape who would replace people on the active roster when there are injuries?
  10. Man this s*** is funny to look back on. Why are Derek Bell and Ed Sprague even on the '92 playoff roster? I mean thank god they were for Game 2, but neither of them could hit in '92. Why is Ron Gant coming off the bench? Lonnie Smith gets hit in the 9th inning to put the tieing run on first and Cox brings Gant in to run (then doesn't try to steal even though Borders couldn't throw out Kendrys Morales trying to steal) so he can let Otis Nixon hit.
  11. '92 World Series - Game 2 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 8th and Cox leaves Smoltz in after he's thrown 119 pitches. Baseball was so different...
  12. Christ we're banning camp fires in half of Ontario just to reduce the stress on the emergency system. I can't imagine this will ever happen - but holy f*** would I welcome back baseball in any form.
  13. The WAR wasn't there (due to the defense), but Colabello's 2015 season is up there for me. .321 / .367 / .520 143 wRC+
  14. Vladdy certainly doesn't seem to be self isolating. What is happening in countries that are less developed? Are they shutting down? I can't imagine they are testing much. They don't seem to be getting a lot of coverage.
  15. Yeah that's kind of the opposite of what I was saying...
  16. Man - I saw a highlight of Vlady hitting the game winning HR in the bottom of the 9th in Montreal (was that last spring or 2 springs ago?). He looked significantly smaller then.
  17. holy f*** the Skydome looked like s*** in 1992. The place was only 3 years old!
  18. Good news folks. Pat Tabler is now available through social media. Apparently he's on twitter now so anyone who misses his awful takes on the game of baseball can rejoice.
  19. J4L19 back from the dead.
  20. Yeah I wasn't as surprised at the low K/9 values, but more that he also walked so many. If you can't strike people out and give up over a hit per inning - you simply can't walk over 4 per 9 innings.
  21. haha - that's hilarious. I never put that together. I know Stieb didn't strikeout a lot (I was going to poise the question as to why, but I self concluded it's a combination of the hitters approach, the 'pitch to contact' approach and reduced velocity), but Stieb was VERY hard to hit and his WHIP was consistently in the 1.10 to 1.20 range. That range for good to great hitter hasn't changed much in the past 40 years (perhaps longer, I couldn't be bothered to look back).
  22. I'm sure he 'played the game the right way' and had all kinds of other attributes that voters thought actually mattered back in the day. It's just difficult to fathom a time when a WHIP of 1.5 and a BB/K ratio of 1:1 kept you in the rotation....or even in the major leagues - let alone won you the Cy Young award. Yesterday I was watching the 1981 Edmonton Oilers game where Wayne scores 5 goals to get 50 goals in 39 games. After watching about 10 minutes of it, I couldn't help but come away thinking that hockey in 1981 was f***ING AWFUL and that I no longer consider Wayne Gretzky to be the best player ever to play the game. I fully imagine I'd come away with the same opinion if I watched Pete Vuckovich pitch in 1981.
  23. How the f*** did Pete Vuckovich win the Cy Young with a WHIP of 1.5 and a BB/K ratio of 1:1???
