Springer is over a year younger, has a much longer track record and currently plays a premier position (of need for the Jays). He's definitely worth more than DJL. Seeing DJL get 6 years sets the bar and we should expect Springer will also get 6 years. DJL only got $15M/year - and seemingly took less AAV to get the 6th year.
I think Springer gets $20 - $25M AAV
If a surprise team gets involved or the Mets throw caution to the wind, I think the Jays need to give him 6 years / $150M and get outside their comfort zone. Otherwise, I think 6 years / $135M makes Springer a BJ (that's 50% more AAV than DJL, which accounts for him being better and the premium to come to the Jays).
If I'm the Jays, I front end it too. $35M,$30M, $25M, $20M, $15M, $10M. Springer gets his cash up front (compound interest) and gives the Jays more flexibility when Vlad, Bo, Biggy, Pearson, Teo need to get paid. To be honest, if you could get a front ended structure like this, I see no reason to lose him over $15M total either...get it done.
