  1. Panik is in the 34th percentile for max exit velocity (32nd percentile in 2020, 28th percentile for avg exit velocity). Espinal is in the 26th percentile for max exit velocity this year, while his average exit velocity was almost identical to Panik in 2020. I think we're splitting hairs here - neither guy hits it hard.
  2. I think it's times like this that make most of us cringe at the thought of adding Albert Pujols to the team because of things like respect, leadership and mentorship.
  3. Most underrated player in baseball?
  4. That is awesome - thanks for sharing. I really miss Gibby. I think I've told this story before, but I took my son to see the Jays play the Twins in Spring Training. It was in Fort Myers and my son was only 7 at the time. We tried to get their early to get autographs, but we got stuck in traffic and were a little late. In most stadiums you can get autographs up until the national anthem, but in the Twins stadium, we got ushered back away about 10-15 minutes earlier so we missed out before the game. As soon as it was over, we rushed down and waited patiently in line to get an autograph, but the kid in front of mine was the last one to get one. My son was devastated. I asked an usher where the visiting teams bus was. He showed us where it was, but there was no public access. We had to stand at the top of the catwalk. We watched all the Jays walk to the bus after the game, but the buses were so loud they couldn't hear us at all. We were hollering at them, but it was no use. They all boarded the bus without even looking up at us. My son was very upset, but luckily a security guard saw us up top and saw up upset my son was. He motioned for me to toss a ball down, which I did. Just before they were about to leave, the guard took the ball on the bus and came back with a signed ball. As he threw it back up to us, old Gibby emerged from the bus to give us a wave and the thumbs up. Gibby had signed the ball for my son and saved the day. Turned our experience right around. He still has the ball displayed in his room. Baseball needs Gibby IMO.
  5. His career BB% is 8.8 and it was over 12% last year. I think you're caught up in a SSS to start this year (at the plate). On the mound, of course he needs more control. He didn't have issues in Japan and is obviously working his way back from all the injuries. Give him some time. I somewhat expect him to have a similar career to Darvish on the mound.
  6. It is pretty insane that he's leading the league in home runs and has a 2.10 ERA. It's obviously an interesting argument. If Ohtani played RF full time, he's probably a 6+ WAR player. If that didn't have any major impact on his ability to pitch every 5 days, there's a real possibility we could see a 10-12 WAR season or two and he could indeed be more valuable than Trout. That said, there's probably a good chance playing RF full time would impact his effectiveness on the mound. I would like to see them remove the reigns and let him start in RF 3 times a week, DH 2-3 times, while still making a weekly start. The sky is the limit of this kid if he can stay healthy. Baseball needs something like this. We need Ohtani to become a horse who's healthy and dominant and doing things that nobody has seen before.
  7. Why doesn't anyone mention Rendon (the 3rd best positional player in baseball since 2017)???
  8. Right calf strain for Trout Side tightness for T.Walker
  9. Yeah I saw that too - he's been a stud so far.
  10. Rendon was the 5th best positional player in baseball last year. The guy is a f***ing stud offensively and defensively with a long track record. Unless you're assuming he's going to be injury prone - I'm not sure why you're predicting his demise as a superstar player.
  11. Oh f***. Kevin Pillar just got hit in the face. Nose is f***ed. Gushing blood. Not good.
  12. Maybe Green Bay knows exactly what they are doing.
  13. Grichuk has a wRC+ of 87 since April 24th. Predictably, he's gone cold and ideally would be back in his 4th OFer role by now - primarily starting either at DH or in the OF v. LHP. Ideally Rowdy would be back raking as we could use his production.
  14. Paul lives up by me Spanky. Right around the corner from the Lisle ball diamond. I think I played a game or two against his son. A good friend of mine just got hired to be the pitching coach for the Baycats ICB team. The guy was a machine on the mound. I once watched him pitch 3 straight games on Sunday to lead his team to an OBA Championship....after pitching the opener on Friday night.
  15. I grew up on a farm and we only got like 8 channels until my Dad bought us one of those huge satellite dishes and suddenly I was able to get WGN. My first memories was watching afternoon Cubs games on WGN. Cubs games started at 2:20 and by the time I got home from school the game would be the 6th or 7th inning and I'd watch the end of it. Ryne Sandberg, Shawn Dunston, Mark Grace, Greg Maddux, Andre Dawson - those were the days. I'd watch the end of it and then go outside to throw balls against the back of the garage - emulating the pitchers I saw that day. I quickly fell in love with the stats - I loved reading box scores from the paper. My Dad also played slo pitch, so I'd watched him play - although, as a farmer, he worked so often that he never had time to teach me the game - we barely had time to play catch. 1992/93 was perfect timing for me. I was 11-12 years old and it was f***ing glorious to go see the new Skydome in person and watch the Jays win B2B. It solidified my passion and love for the game. I went to play baseball at about age 7 or 8, even though all my friends were playing soccer. I didn't care. I joined the NDBL as a 14 year old, playing junior baseball and then joined the senior team when I was 19. I finally called it quits at the end of the 2019 season after 20 years playing senior baseball. It was an amazing ride. We won the league title 5 or 6 times and finally won what proved to be a very illusive OBA Championship (AA level) in 2015. We hosted an annual tournament on the August long weekend, went to Ottawa every year for a tournament and had several other exhibition weekends v. Welland, Niagara Falls, etc. Anything for a weekend away with the boys. We got into all kinds of shenanigans and created several lifelong friendships. My focus now is coaching my 3 sons. My oldest plays AAA in Barrie and I absolutely love coaching kids.
  16. Maybe we shouldn't have drafted a pitcher with a screw in his elbow. This blows.
  17. f*** me. Brutal.
  18. Thanks, I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even know this was a thing. I have the game on now
  19. Packers should pick up DaeSean Hamilton
  20. Lions got two 1st round picks and a 3rd for Stafford, who also makes a s*** ton, is getting old and isn't a perennial MVP candidate. Yes, they had to take Goff back, but still.
  21. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the MLB Players Association has filed a grievance "stating that MLB did not act in good faith last year to play as many games as possible." According to Sherman's sources, the MLBPA is seeking an estimated $500 million in damages. Major League Baseball, meanwhile, has filed a counter-grievance but would not comment to Sherman on the specifics. This all ties into the looming collective bargaining agreement negotiations this winter, which are sure to be highly contentious. Sherman writes that "MLB would almost certainly factor in the potential of losing half a billion dollars in a grievance into any financial offer" when it comes to the new CBA. Buckle up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- f*** BOTH SIDES. These ****s better not ruin the league right when the Jays are positioned to be a dominant franchise with sustainable success.
  22. Yeah - I think the Jays have had enough days off lately. That's probably why they're keeping him in there. He also played every game last year if I recall correctly.
