  1. A lot of us were keen on him last offseason. Great to see him stay relatively healthy the past 2 years. If he can find a way to suppress the HR/9, he likely still has some upside. Nice little signing for the DBacks.
  2. I preferred reading his summary over opening up another link.
  3. Elly is moving to the OF?
  4. Bonus points to Hernandez for the magic loogie. Olerud's loogies were below average I'm told - Alomar never taught him properly.
  5. Than that moves the needle even more...
  6. Laika - does that factor in that historically, DS has been sheltered in the type of RHP's he faces?
  7. It sounds like Seattle has been unable to unlock his potential to me. Framing can be taught and it sounds like the power is there - he just isn't getting to it consistently.
  8. Maybe Fangraphs should offer addiction support...
  9. You 100% can. I'm sure we all feel that way to some extent. To clarify - when people are suggesting Clement may not have a "starting spot" they say so knowing that the primary utility player (and the 4th OFer) on average receive 500 PA's a year anyway - they play as much as the starters and thus we aren't benching Ernie - he's a massive glue piece for this team.
  10. I was just going to say that Mookie Betts has given fans completely unrealistic expectations on players abilities to change positions mid career. Mookie Betts is a generational mutant. He's literally good at everything he tries. I understand your thought process - and I too would love to see us start Clement in a premiere defensive position to optimize his value. But a move to CF is drastic and highly unlikely to be successful. Also - as much as I love Ernie Clement (and I REALLY do) - he's already entering his age 30 season and will soon start to decline. Just enjoy Ernie for what he is and let him play the super sub role for this team. We already know he's really good at it - no need to f*ck with that.
  11. It certainly seems like there would be no shortage of at bats available for Clement. What an absolute stud he's become. He's the glue.
  12. That is pretty cool. Someone bid the $10K for it.
  13. Utility infielders average 400-500 PA's a year. He doesn't need a "starting spot" to get starter PA's. That said - I'm curious, is there anything to suggest Ernie could be a league average defender at SS?
  14. He's been worth 1.7 WAR on average over the last 3 years. It's a league average bat, .300 OBP and declining defense. Solid piece, but there's not much upside anymore. Probably best as a 4th OFer at this point?
  15. A roster crunch is a sign of a really good team. It's a good problem to have. We may be in a position where we're trading MLB ready talent for young prospects. You see the Dodgers doing this regularly...
  16. That's true - but I have to think they believe they can unlock more value out of him. Otherwise - why be so aggressive to sign him?
  17. The Athletic is reporting that we've put Berrios on the trading block...
  18. I read it as the ball size is slightly different - like it is in the KBO and NPB. I guess pre-tacked baseball could also change the pitch shape? Either way - I really respect sliderguy's opinion, so this is a wet blanket on our excitement.
  19. @sliderguy35 - you're telling me the baseball used at AA and below is different than the ball used at AAA and the ML level? Why on earth would they do that? Also
  20. Sorry dude - but RPers are too volatile. I'm not giving up 5 years of Barger for a RPer. If I did consider it, they'd have to be under control for another 4-5 years themselves and be absolute studs like a Mason Miller or a Cade Smith. Also - there's a very good possibility that Loperfido sucks. You're potentially blinded by the BABIP luck he had last year.
  21. Agree with this.
  22. I hate this idea more than life itself.
  23. I LOVE what Bassitt did in the playoffs for this team, but his effectiveness out of the bullpen may not be quite as strong when his adrenaline isn't max tiddies like it was in the playoffs. I'd love to keep Bassitt - but it feels like we're running short on roster spots unfortunately.
  24. I have to assume that part of the negotiation with Ponce was that he'd be given a spot in the rotation. He's going to want his shot and I think it's doubtful he'd sign with a team that wouldn't guarantee he gets his fair shot. I'd like to think there's a possibility that we added the 3rd year and extra $10M in exchange for the ability to use him as a swing man - but I just can't see that happening.
