  1. For f*** sakes, insert another example of a bullpen that showed extreme fluctuation from one season to the next. It happens all the time without accusations that the pitching coaches are implementing a new philosophy that has ruined everything. Also - every team deals with pitching injuries.
  2. I'm comparing his results to the results of other recognizable players to give context and visualizations to just how AWFUL he's been over the last 400+ PA's. Is that too complicated for you?
  3. I'm just trying to find a logical explanation and I can't seem to find a narrative that includes "the hitting coaches f***ed this all up and as soon as they are gone, they'll hit great again". It makes ZERO sense that the same hitting coach from 2021/22, when they were incredible offensively would make drastic changes in 2023/24 AND STICK WITH THEM through this debacle. It is more logical to suggest that Donnie Baseball came in here and swung his girthy manhood around and took over as the sheriff in Town, implemented ALL NEW philosophies and that nobody in the org has the balls to tell him to f*** off and change - not Shapiro, not Atkins, not Schneider and not the players. But again, that just seems to f***ing crazy I can't fathom a world where that happens. Again, the Braves offense has been trash (albeit improving) this year v. the utter dominance they displayed last year and AA literally said they can't figure why the f*** that's happened. The same way Atkins would tell you he has no idea why our bullpen went from great to the worst in baseball overnight. Because a lot of s*** happens in baseball that simply can't be explained and isn't necessarily someone's fault (often is a combination of several factors). I think that's a more logical explanation than blaming the hitting coaches and suggesting all the problems will evaporate with a new staff.
  4. f*** me - Juan Soto will never sign in Toronto.
  5. You think Guillermo has bent over and let Donnie Baseball violate his mussy and change everything? Or do you think Guillermo decided on his own to completely overhaul everything that lead to them being the #2 offense in baseball in 2021-2022? I'm fascinated by this thought process.
  6. We'll see. There are a lot of concerning underlying metrics. His bat speed is only in the 31st percentile, his LA sweet spot% has dropped significantly, barrel% dropped off the table, etc. I do wonder if he should be adopting the adjustments that Kwan made. Bo's contact % isn't on Kwan's level, but it's typically high. Maybe he needs to stop trying to hit everything he swings at - do more damage. He's almost been completely USELESS v. LHP this year....his wRC+ v. LHP is 1 on the season.........1!!! He's crushed lefties his entire career, until this year when he's decided to hit like Voggy v. LHP. f***ing Donnie Baseball ruining everything. Whatever it is, he needs to figure it out soon. Most players who hit like Goins for a full calendar year have difficulty making it back to star levels.
  7. Wow - I would guess there's a 5% chance Bo ends the year with 4 WAR. He's at 0.4 WAR right now and the most optimistic projections suggest about 2 more WAR over the rest of the season. Bo's hit like Espinal over his past 400+ PA's. With every at bat, the likelihood he returns to a 4+ WAR star player diminishes. This isn't a slump.
  8. We should trade for Seattle hitters too. If Teo couldn't see well there, I suspect several others can't either. Just trade for them and they'll immediately get a 20% boost.
  9. Since August 1, 2023 411 PA's 82 wRC+ .117 ISO It's to the point that it's a serious concern.
  10. Bo's struggled extend well into the later half of 2023. Fair about the benching comment. It is quite common to see high paid players/vet get much more rope. To be honest, at this point, one of the best things that could happen for the Jays is for Springer to figure it out and return to his projections (115 wRC+, 2-3 WAR OFer). He isn't going to do that sitting on the bench. It's a lost season, so I have no problem running him back out there in hopes he breaks out of the slump.
  11. I see you keep saying that. I assume at one point, his wRC+ was the worst of all qualified hitters, but if you look at that leaderboard, there are several players who are still getting tons of playing time while not hitting. Some are vets, some are younger, some play for winning/good teams, some play for losers. He's nowhere near the worst in terms of WAR, so it's not like he's killing the team. His wRC+ is now 7 points behind Bo. Do you want to bench Bo permanently too?
  12. I'm not sure this is true. Yanks were giving DJ 6 years, $15M AAV Philly gave Realmuto $115M LA gave Bauer $21.5M AAV Oakland gave Hendriks $54M Philly gave Didi $14M AAV Boston gave JBJ $12M AAV Did we have to give Springer that 6th year to get him? Probably, but I suspect the AAV we gave him was very similar to what other teams were offering him. He was one of, if not the best FA available. It's not like we had to give him $5M more AAV to land him. Springer's deal looks right in line with the going rate of players in the 2022 FA pool (Correa, Seager, Bryant, Semien, Freeman, Story, Baez, etc.)
  13. What's getting around? That the Blue Jays suck this year and change is needed? The fact you even read a Steve Simmons article says it all.
  14. Agreed. I run the pitching machine for my kid's U9 team and I always ask the opposing team's pitcher (who changes almost every inning) what their name is and who their favourite baseball player is. I'd say 30-40% of the time, the answer is still Vlad.
  15. I don't quite see it like that. Ryu was an overpay, but it was also the first time we seemed to be able to land one of the big fish in the FA market. I don't agree that Springer was an overpay. This wasn't a Kris Bryant situation IMO. I suspect the direction of the team played a role in his decision to sign here - it wasn't just money. I would think the same thing for Gausman (and even Bassitt). I think moving forward, that even if we're the highest bidder (unless it's a significant overpay), that players may choose to sign elsewhere now, given the state of the team.

  17. jaysblue - I just wanted to let you know I'm on my annual golf trip with the boys next week. You may notice my active on this board is reduced. This isn't me running away or going into hiding. I will not tell you where I'm going because you're a f***ing creep. Thank you.
  18. Do you think it will be more difficult to attract good FA's in the midst of a rebuild/retool (without severely overpaying)? I think this team became attractive to FA's when we had Vlad/Bo (even Biggio) as the young nucleolus. I'm not so sure players will want to play here now.
  19. Yes - I disagree with several aspects of that article (none of which have to do with Atkins being fired - that is 100% coming). Steve Simmons is one of the worst sports writers in Canadian sports history. The Sun is so bad I wouldn't use it to wrap fish and chips.
  20. You know Steve Simmons is a f***ing moron right?
  21. Spot on.
  22. I'm just saying that even after his recent power surge, his ISO is still worse than Cedric Mullins, who's 115 lbs soaking wet and has a 70 wRC+. Vlad is the most frustrating sports talent I've ever seen (and yes, I do not like him).
  23. and yet his ISO is still below Cedric Mullins this year. Mullins has a 70 wRC+
  24. What you should expect to happen is they will keep Vlad, Bo, Gaus, Bassitt, etc. (those with more than 1 year of control) and let the new GM decide what to do this offseason. Guys like Kikucci, Jansen, Turner, bullpen arms, etc. all likely don't have a ton of value anyway. They can be sold off, with someone like Shapiro keeping a watchful eye. Most of the guys they get in return will just be lotto tickets anyway. I don't think many GM's have way more success with lotto tickets than your average GM anyway.
  25. Yeah - I should have included him. Julio and Corbin should be 2 of the faces of MLB right now. Hopefully they both turn it around soon.
