  1. Things that can't be fixed - Bassitt's decline
  2. Father time is undefeated. I was just checking out his stats and man - that season he put up at age 39, coming off TJS is unreal. 18-4, 1.75 ERA, 6 WAR Verlander may be the pitcher I remember and talk about the most from the 2000's. Kershaw and Scherzer are right up there too. I feel like because he was on the west coast, I didn't get to see Kershaw as much and he's struggled a bit in the playoffs when I do get to see him. I think he's technically the best pitcher of the 2000's, but in my heart, I put Verlander above him.
  3. What's it cost the Jays to acquire Reid Detmers?
  4. You're also assuming the poor performance on the field will continue. The way I see it, Atkins is an OK GM. He isn't Top 5, but he's also not Bottom 10. The Jays likely look at this and ask themselves if there is another GM out there that is going to be tangibly better than Atkins - and the answer is likely "maybe". Who would replace Atkins? The answer is probably someone who's inexperienced and never been a GM before - which most businesses see as risky. If some new GM is consider equal to Atkins, then Atkins may get the nod, as there is value in stability and continuity. Fans don't want to hear that because "Atkins bad" and "no playoff wins", but from a business perspective, the Jays are probably really happy with this FO.
  5. Imagine giving Benintendi 5 years $75M Andrew Vaughan joining Tork has massive Top 5 pick, first basemen busts.
  6. Quite an accomplishment - yet he's overshadowed by Ohtani's pursuit for 50-50, which is simply a legendary season. I'm curious if Ohtani is running more this year because he doesn't have to pitch (and I suspect he is). If so, this could be his only shot at something magical like 50-50. I really hope he makes it!
  7. 6.8 fWAR - 5th best in baseball offensively. Tied with Gunner, ahead of Ohtani. Incredible season. Shades of the 2011 Jacoby Ellsbury season.
  8. I think he can actually get $21M next year because they have a mutual option for 2026 with a $4M buyout. His counting stats look nice, but counting stats don't tell you how poor of a hitter he's been this year. He was an interesting target, with a good track record, but coming off a major injury. Getting stuck with him next year for $21M was the risk that Brewers took. It's a shame for them, as they're a mid market team that's really good right now and needs to spend what available money they have to put their team over the top. Hopefully he finds his grove in September, finishes strong and can produce for the Brewers in the playoffs and next year.
  9. I'm glad we avoided Rhys Hoskins this offseason. He's really struggled to regain his previous form.
  10. If the Jays are going to contend in 2025 and 2026, than we're going to have to rely on the young call-ups. If they all turn out to be AAAA bums, then there's no way we'll contend and should just tear it all down now. Good news is the shear volume of call-ups gives us a solid probability of having a couple of starters (or at least platoon starters) and a couple of good backups amongst them. We really need to have some solid, young, cheap and controlled position players on this team.
  11. I think there's a chance this is true.
  12. Extend Atkins for the Francis trade alone. This is becoming a Yordan for Fields or a Tatis for Shields type, franchise altering trade.
  13. I understand that. But he's not a pitcher you'd want to start in a playoff game (you would in a 7 game series if you had to). He has a high floor and a low ceiling. I just think there's better uses of $21M. I'm sure Atkins is foaming at the mouth to trade that loud mouth f*** who bashed the FO anyway.
  14. This. I guess only nerds can figure that out.

    NHL Thread

I heard the car in front of the drunk driver pulled to the left to pass the cyclists and the drunk driver sped up and tried to pass the vehicle on the right - taking out the Gaudreau brothers. Just an absolute nightmare for the family.
  16. Chourio is the new Julio...could be the new face of the MLB. Hopefully he doesn't struggle like Julio has recently.
  17. What is really too bad is his defense is no longer a plus. He'd have a long career as a MI utility player who crushes LHP and plays great defense at 3rd/SS/2nd. He's a lot more reliant on his bat now that his defense has declined.
  18. Yes, I'm aware. It's just a pipe dream that we have an extra $21M to spend on a difference maker and not on Chris Bassitt. It's a pipe dream. I know.
  19. Good for him. I suspect at some point he has seriously considered if he still had it in him to be a ML ballplayer. That must be incredibly hard for players. The guy was a really solid player for like 750 PA's and makes an All-Star game (whether he deserved it or not) and then it all falls apart. It must take some serious grit, determination and emotional intelligence to battle through those struggles and truly believe you can still perform at the ML level. I do hope for Espi that he's figured something out and finds his way at the ML level.
  20. He even said after the game he was a lot more fatigued in this game and had to be "crafty" to get outs in the final innings. It was the right call.
  21. I don't think I've seen anyone ever referred to Bassitt as a "bargin". I think people were happy with him as a FA signing and he's filled a need for 2023 and 2024. I don't think it's unexpected that people would like to get rid of an aging FA signing in the final year of his deal. You're always expecting to get the value in the front half of FA deals and some dead weight at the back. I suspect we're stuck with him next year. He'll still eat his innings and be a solid starter, but we'd like to have that $21M to spend elsewhere.
  22. I don't know - but it's worth trying. There might be a desperate team out there. Having another $21M to spend in free agency this offseason would be sweet.
  23. That whole City is built on maintaining and refurbishing historic buildings. There's an old fire station there where the door was built for horse and buggy firetrucks....and they kept it and build a custom firetruck to fit! I think it's all pretty cool myself, but at some point, all good things must come to an end.
  24. I don't know man. You think anyone wants Bassitt for $21M? I don't think they'd even get a lottery ticket for him. I think someone would find the money to add Green, simply because lockdown RPers are money in the playoffs. Bassitt wouldn't help anyone in the playoffs this year.
