  1. This is spot on IMO. Fans are quick to blame decisions when starters are pulled early and that team loses, yet they often don't acknowledge when this strategy is successfully used.
  2. AA was good at rebuilding the farm system - but he also played under different rules and he exploited those rules (kudos to him) to give himself 2-3 times more top draft picks than Atkins (or any other GM in baseball) is able to under the new rules. I 100% agree that Atkins has sucked at drafting/development, but AA also had advantages when you try to compare them, which should be considered in this discussion. To be honest, even after exploding the loophole, AA's "hit" rate still wasn't great. If it was, our window may have stayed open longer than just 2015/16.
  3. I was thinking this today - we'll said. They are more similar than you think.
  4. Yeah I don't like the idea of Santander on a 4+ year deal. I keep trying to convince myself he's just Teo, but blah...can't get excited about it.
  5. Some news to share: Michael Lorenzen signs with the Royals - 1 year $7M. No commentary if they're going to let him try to be a 2-way player (which I think was rumored and discussed earlier). Braxton Garrett will miss all of 2025 with after undergoing UCL revision surgery with an internal brace in December. Dude just can't stay healthy. Travis Swaggerty was signed to a minor league contract with the Mets. I remember lots of discussions about him in the 2018 draft (10th overall pick). He never amounted to much of anything unfortunately. Amed Roserio signs with the Nats - 1 year $2M. Josh Rojas signs with the White Sox - 1 year $3.5M (also impressed with their farm system). Twins confirm Griffin Jax won't be returning to the rotation this coming seasons.
  6. He must have been impressed with the White Sox farm system...
  7. I don't disagree with this at all (I was fully on the rebuilt train last deadline), but there is a probability they did shop him at the deadline, weren't getting the return they wanted and held on accordingly, knowing their was a good chance the market may re-shape his value in the offseason.
  8. There are obvious reasons why front offices aren't open and transparent about their plans and agent/player interactions. Almost all the rumors your hear comes from agents and others and you should probably assume a lot of it isn't true, or is stretching the truth. Lots of people rely on clicks to get paid - so it shouldn't surprise anyone that there are false rumors fly around nonstop.
  9. Well I think we're all sick of hearing they are "in" on every FA and a "finalist". Let's try something different - we're not going to land ANY of the remaining impactful free agents.
  10. Oh right. Ha.
  11. Are you trying to suggest good organizations never sign dominant closers?
  12. 1 year, $15M deal for Verlander. Does the old horse have one more 150+ inning, 2-3 WAR season left in him? Seems like a lot of money to find out, but it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I think it would have been nice to see him return to Detroit for one last season. Help that young team one more time - Billy Chapel style.
  13. That's an interesting way to think about it. I'll give it a try.
  14. Seems like a reasonable place for him to land. Verlander "might" have one more good season in him and SF "might" be a contender this year if things all break right for them.
  15. If you denounce advanced statistics completely, then this might not be the best community for you.
  16. That has nothing to do with your claim that "his career has been mediocre".
  17. No - it's ludicrous because it's grossly incorrect. Dude has 35+ career WAR.
  18. He's never been your traditional ace or superstar, but his career has not been mediocre 😕 I'm not suggesting he's a prime target, or someone I want on the Jays, but that is a ludicrous statement.
