  1. Where there not stories about ball players who moved from the DR or Venezuela who ate pizza every day for like 2 years because they had no idea how to get any other food? I think that was old and they have improved how much they pay minor league players and I think they've implemented food programs to improve nutrition for them - but it's a good reminder of how difficult the culture change can be on them. It's like Olerud is possessed these days.
  2. Living in Florida would be a challenging culture shock for most. Surrounded by people who are nearly dead and/or inbred rednecks ain't easy.
  3. It seems all we need to do is go without a championship for another 54 years and then rip off 4 between 2080 and 2094 and we'll be known for our winning culture like the Red Sox. Seems reasonable to me.
  4. Sanchez's wRC+ is currently 5. That's wild. He might need to go get a real job.
  5. The Cubs went 108 years between World Series wins and the Red Sox went 86 years. So you're correct, evidence suggests winning isn't a major requirement for heritage.
  6. That's nice to see. Was he hurt all last year?
  7. This type of optimism will not be tolerated on this board. Stupid wishful thinking of fans 😒
  8. At the end of the day, they are human. Baseball can be an incredible difficult game to play day in and day out from a mental perspective. Too bad - I hope they find the joy again as it will help them perform better.
  9. It's wild that McClanahan can miss 2 straight years, lose almost 2 MPH of velo and remain a very effective pitcher.
  10. John Schneider said the plan is for Addison Barger (ankles) to return on Friday. Hopefully he gives the offense a shot in the arm, but I know that's just wishful thinking.
  11. Putting your best hitters at the top of the lineup is pretty common place these days and there are studies that support it. 1st, 2nd and 4th are the optimal places for your top 3 hitters. It just turns out our top hitter has a mental block and doesn't like to bat anywhere but 3rd.
  12. Sosa has had success v. high velo and to be fair, was a league average bat with 22 HRs last year at age 25. It's not hard to see why the team would take a flyer on him.
  13. Yeah I think you need to ride the hot hand if you can. Sanchez hasn't shown enough to deserve full-time playing time.
  14. It's hard to see. I imagine this one stings a lot. They knew the expectations going into the year and it's probably really starting to weighing on them.
  15. Noone said he didn't have flaws. Nobody suggested he was an elite, absolutely can't miss player who will transform the lineup. A fan of the Blue Jays just optimistically said he thought Barger would help the offense. Telling him that's just wishful thinking is just utter nonsense. End of story. Watching you jerk off your uncle is gross 🤣 Almost everything he says is negative drivel. The organization is in the best shape it's been in the last 30+ years. We were inches away from a championship. If you can't be optimistic about this organization right now - GTFO!
  16. I think it's safe to say the vast majority of people know this. It is pretty obvious stuff. Someone said they thought Barger might give the team a shot in the arm and your uncle had to jump in and claim that's just wishful thinking from the fanbase.
  17. Former Los Angeles Times writer, Mike DiGiovanna reported on “Halo Territory” that sources have told him Yusei Kikuchi (shoulder) is “gonna be out for several months, if not the whole season.” DiGiovanna covered the Angels for decades when he was working with The Times, so it would make sense for him to still have sources connected to the organization. A multiple-month absence for shoulder inflammation is also not an unrealistic outcome, so much of this makes sense. The Angels have not yet confirmed any timeline for Kikuchi, but if he were to miss an extended period of time, Caden Dana would figure to get a chance to stick in the rotation until Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) or Alek Manoah (finger) make their season debut.
  18. Schneider doesn't hit anyone well right now and historically has hiy righties a bit better than lefties. We'd still have Sosa and Straw on the bench from the right side (even if they kinda suck too).
  19. The Detroit Free Press’ Evan Petzold reports that Tarik Skubal will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow. So much for him being scratched from his start for precautionary reasons. As of now, there is no set timeline for Skubal’s absence, but Edwin Diaz is being sidelined for three months after undergoing the same surgery. That means we could expect Skubal back in August as a best-case scenario. That’s a brutal blow for the Tigers and fantasy managers, and, potentially, Skubal’s free agent market. Sawyer Gipson-Long could be called up to take his place in the starting rotation. That's not good!
  20. It almost seems like our approach at the plate has disappeared since Donnie Baseball left the bench...
  21. I always have a lot of respect for the organizations that find a way to compete with little to no payroll. Hard not to root for the underdogs.
  22. Heiny is a backup. He gets exposed when he's used too much. At least Valenzuela frames and throws well. Anything we get from him offensively is gravy. We've gotten some gravy lately - it's been really nice.
  23. Great to see him grinding it out today. Twins got to him early, but he kept pitching and gave us 7 strong. I have no idea if this is true, but it feels like in the past Cease was the type of guy who when you got to him early, he'd struggle to find it and would end up throwing 100 pitches in 4 2/3's or something. Nice to see him stay aggressive, trust his stuff, find a groove and give us 7.
