    Schneider is definitely a better lead off option against LHP. He can work the count and since he's being lifted for Lukes as soon as a righty comes in anyway, it makes the lineup more logical. Pedro Martinez in his prime could come into the game in relief and Clement would still bat for himself, so it doesn't make sense to have him lead off if he's not going to get pinch hit for later.

    Yeah I have no issues going the rental route with relievers. With starters it makes sense to value team control. With relievers it might be smarter to weigh 2025 impact + acquisition cost over team control.

    The Cardinals are shopping Helsley, apparently. Seems like a realistic Jays target. Rental so shouldn't cost as much.

    The Mariners acquiring Suarez after dumping him for nothing a year and a half ago would certainly be something. They'll likely have to give up better prospects for a 2 month rental than what they got for him after 2023 when he had two affordable years of control left. As far as McMahon, I think this was the Yankees prioritizing defense over more power (which they have a lot of already).

    Yeah no argument from me. If I had to choose between those two SP's to add to the current rotation, then I go with Sandy as well. The Jays need an ace, not more of the same, and Sandy is one of the few SP's you can get on the trade market right now with that ceiling without (presumably) having to give up an ace-like trade package. Maybe it's a long shot that he's fixable in time for October, but I'd take that shot depending on what it would cost to get him.

    To me this depends entirely on the cost. If the Marlins are holding out for a 2022 Sandy return, then it doesn't make sense, but if the Jays can get him at a more reasonable cost, then to me it's a no brainer. He's the SP to get. Not only is he controllable beyond 2025, but I think there's a strong chance he finishes the year strong. Stuff+ and Location+ are both good, and on the Jays he'd have elite defense behind him and probably the best defensive catching/framing tandem in the league. The alternatives are buying high on Ryan (if he's even available), Cabrera, Keller, etc, and giving up way more prospect capital. With the way the Jays have prioritized extra rest and low pitch counts for the geezers in the rotation this season, I think running a 6 man rotation is probably something they not only wouldn't mind doing but might be planning on as well. The last time they had a shot at the division at this point in the season was 2016, where they acquired a struggling Francisco Liriano and went with a 6 man rotation down the stretch.

    That Chad Green DFA notification is going to be incredible, but have to add a couple of leverage relievers first. Great win tonight.

    Barger is 0-2 with his 2 outs being 110 and 106 mph. Bad luck.

    Kwan is like the dictionary definition of the type of player Atkins loves, so if it doesn't happen at the deadline, then I could see it happening at some point. Maybe the winter, or whenever the Guardians decide they want to go with a cheaper player.

    A split would be fine, but only way to win the season series tiebreaker is to win 3 of 4. Hopefully the Tigers recent struggles carry over for another weekend.
