  1. Yeah the rotation isn’t going to last 162 as is. Scherzer might be cooked, and Manoah is coming back from TJS with no guarantee he’s going to be good when healthy. I’m not sure there is help on the way internally any time soon, If the offense was consistently good then they might be able to work around it, but they look great one week and 2024 levels the following week, so I have no idea what to expect from the bats. Probably closer to average offensively, which won’t be enough. They need to be the May offense more consistently to have a shot. I’ve said before this team either needs to go on a real run or fall way out of it. Being around .500 and within 4-5 games of a playoff spot with a lame duck front office is not ideal.
  2. A .500 team will give you hope and look like trash in the same week sometimes. Unfortunately that might be what the Jays are in 2025.
  3. I'm not even sure what his argument is. The Orioles had a bad off season. I'm pretty sure if he looked at his hard drive or Excel file or whatever he uses to document everyone's posting history, he'd see that people were genuinely laughing at the O's for not spending on better SP's this winter. So the basis of his argument is that people were praising the O's front office too much when they were winning 90-100 games on the backs of players they developed and/or traded for Corbin Burnes. I mean, that's kinda common sense. When the Jays were good in 2022 with Vlad, Bo, Kirk, Teo, Jansen, Manoah, Romano, etc, they were getting praised too. When a FO does good things they get praised, then when they do bad things they get criticized. Shocking. I honestly don't care if someone brings up something I said 5 years ago that ended up being wrong, I'm sure there's a bunch of those takes if someone (probably only Spank) wanted to take the time to look for it, but I honestly have no idea what he's talking about here. Oh well.
  4. The offense (assuming May Jays is reasonably sustainable) and bullpen should be able to keep the team in games but it's hard to envision the rotation holding up with 3 SP's, 1 dud (Francis), and 1 question mark (Scherzer, Lauer, etc). The team has gotten a nice break with Barger and Lukes both turning into something (Barger in particular). Now they really need one of those on the SP side as well. They have to hope they can keep their heads above water long enough to make a trade at the deadline for a SP. Barger turning into a competent 3B (for now) and Rodriguez (for now) looking like a potential late inning relief option does give them a bit more clarity on what they need if they are still in the race in July.
  5. Not sure how or when I became an Orioles fanboy or said they had the best front office. I've praised their player development in the past and prior to this winter they usually operated reasonably well despite salary constraints/cheapness, but that's hardly glazing their front office. Hell, I literally just praised Shatkins a page or two ago for spending on SP when Vlad/Bo came up rather than doing what the Orioles just did.
  6. 3 runs over 8 innings for the 4 pitchers the Jays used is a great outing. Unfortunately the bats couldn’t do anything. Maybe it’s not just the Trop.
  7. 113 mph ground out for Barger. Man even his outs are hard hits.
  8. The bright side is that these games won't be at the Trop. Lauer definitely needs to eat up some innings tonight.
  9. Would have sucked to lose that game, glad they were able to finish the sweep. Finally over .500 again.
  10. Yeah this loss (if it ends up a loss) will be on Hoffman. I joke about JS loving to use as many relievers as possible, and it's not even that much of a joke as I think he legitimately gets high off that, but this one wasn't on him. If Hoffman does his job then it's not even a discussion.
  11. The Jays use every reliever in the pen (JS about to smoke a cigar after the game just for that) with TBD as tomorrow's starter. Not ideal. Hopefully Lauer can eat some innings tomorrow night.
  12. Clase, Straw, and Heineman due up in the bottom of the 10th. Hopefully Springer and Kirk will be used as pinch hitters. Need Little to hold them here though.
  13. The Baseball God's don't want the Jays to get over .500.
  14. Why bunt with Straw when Clase already got into scoring position and is super fast?
  15. Barger being a good hitter and (more impressively) a good fielder at 3B is a massive development for the Jays.
  16. Taking Rodriguez out is fine as he was closing in on 30 pitches, but Fluharty could have finished this inning, IMO. Or at least give him a shot to. Green sucks.
  17. A fresh bullpen is like sex to John Schneider. He'll use every arm left in the pen except Urena.
  18. Francis is infuriating to watch this season because you know he's giving up 2-3 home runs even when he's pitching "well". Unfortunately they don't have any other options to replace him.
  19. The Padres have actually hit less home runs than the Jays this season, so hopefully Francis can keep the ball in the park today, but 14 home runs allowed in 46 innings for Francis on the year, so it may not matter who the opponent is.
  20. Jays winning a laugher. Nice. Better let Urena finish it.
  21. I have to apologize to Charlie Buntoyo, as it clearly wasn’t him obsessed with bunting. It is the org.
  22. Yeah say what you want about Shatkins, but they started spending as soon as Vlad and Bo came up. What the FO lacked in player development, they made up for with FA signings and trades. Of course, Elias is a lot better on the player development side, but clearly not on the pitching end, and that's where they needed to invest heavily. The Jays did that and got some good seasons out of it despite their two stars collectively (more so Vlad) not living up to the hype most of the time. The O's not spending on SP the last two years was a major fumble.
  23. As long as he continues to be a FIP beater, then he'll have value, but those two player options in '27 and '28 are brutal. Essentially 2/50 for Tanner Roark (pre-Jays).
