  1. Since returning from the IL in August 2023, he has a 0.9 WAR and 81 wRC+ in 587 PA with a .103 ISO (7 HR). Keep Ed Rogers away from the negotiating table on this one.
  2. The entire dugout was probably sneezing when all the dust from the home run jacket flew everywhere. That hasn't seen the light of day in a long time.
  3. I thought for sure the Jays would be at least top 3 in singles, but they are tied for 8th. The one/only thing they are good at and they aren't even top 5. Sad times. Maybe they can climb back into the top 5 in singles after tonight. Carrasco is good hitting, so it will be singles galore most likely.
  4. Carrasco: 5 IP, 12 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 0 HR
  5. Yeah I see zero reason to commit to Bo long-term. His offensive profile is not likely to age well, and he doesn't move the needle marketing-wise as much as Rogers seems to think Vlad does. I don't think this team is going to rebuild regardless of who is the one making the decisions (Shatkins or someone else) but either way there is likely a better path to roster construction than doubling down on a Vlad/Bo combo for $700-800M. The Gimenez contract is not ideal, but IMO it would make it a bit less egregious if he's a SS, so just move him over and find a 2B somewhere else.
  6. I thought I read last year that Vlad prefers batting 3rd. Don't know if that was an actual quote or not, but if that's true, then yeah just put him 3rd in the lineup. Now that Springer is hitting again, do something like Springer-Bo-Vlad-Tony. Won't magically solve anything, but why not?
  7. I'm still curious how any human being or computer system thought Will Wagner was going to have a ~120 wRC+ in 2025. The knock on Wagner when acquired was that he doesn't hit the ball with any real damage and hits a lot of ground balls. He just has great bat to ball skills, which obviously makes Ross Atkins have to cross his legs to avoid his excitement showing, but I don't see how that translates to a well above average offensive player. Maybe I'm wrong and he turns into Arraez or something, but the fact that the FO throws his name around like a top prospect is sad. He'd be a nice option at 3B only because the Jays literally have no one else, so a ~100 wRC+ slap hitting 3B is probably an upgrade on this team, but he has a ways to go to be league average with the bat at this point. Looking at the system (AA and AAA) is kinda depressing. Only player who looks like they could help is Clase, but he's not hitting the ball hard at all so probably facing a similar reality check once he sees MLB pitching consistently.
  8. This is year 3 now of the limp dick offense that needs pitching and defense to be perfect in order to win. It's not fun to watch even when it works (2023) and unwatchable when it doesn't.
  9. Taking the bat out of Kirk's hands doesn't sound like a bad idea, but Straw is on deck, so pick your poison.
  10. Lukes hitting a home run and then getting benched the next day is hilarious.
  11. 2024 vs 2025 comparison after 24 games (league rank in parentheses) 2024: 13-11 (11th), 93 R (22nd) 21 HR (21st), 101 wRC+ (12th), -12 RunDiff 2025: 12-12 (15th), 87 R (24th), 13 HR (29th), 98 wRC+ (18th), -14 RunDiff I mean, it's very early, so the team could easily get hot, especially when the schedule eases up, but this has the look and feel of 2024 to me so far. The 2023 season required god tier pitcher health, in addition to performance, which I don't think we can expect again this year.
  12. Yeah it's possible this contact obsession was always there, we just never noticed it because the team (especially in 2021-22) was actually hitting dingers. Now that the power hitters were phased out and they've tripled down on line drives and contact, it's become a lot more noticeable. Even looking at Grichuk, his ISO dropped every year from 2018-2021, but so did his K%. He was acquired as a 30% K% player, and by the end of his Jays tenure he was down to 20%, but lost a lot of his power as well. I'm sure if I google it there will be "Jays have tinkered with Grichuk's swing" stories from that time period. Teo is really the one true development success story looking back. Teo gone, replaced by KK. Chapman gone, replaced by f'n IKF. Schneider hitting like Babe Ruth for two months but losing playing time to Craig's son. These guys have been hiding in plain sight. What a damn mess.
  13. Exactly. The best remaining years of Vlad's career will likely be on teams not good enough to even take advantage of it. So on top of there being a real chance of somewhere between 5-10 dead money years, by the time the team might actually be good enough to contend for a deep playoff run, they might be towards the end of Vlad's prime years. It literally made no sense on any level.
  14. I remember reading a blurb posted here from Baseball America last year about Barger, where after his great 2022 they had him change his approach to improve his contact rates at the expense of launch angle. So he was making more contact but it was on the ground or line drives. I think they just overvalue contact, even if it’s weak contact, and I don’t know how a team in 2025 can feel that way. I think the new hitting coach is helping but the FO went too far deep into the contact hitting where squeezing power out of this group is going to be next to impossible, unfortunately. It’s why Springer has been fixed (so far) but the results for Wagner, Roden, etc, aren’t there. You actually have to have some power potential to develop it. That’s why I’m hoping Barger plays more, but he’s likely a 30% K% type of player so this team may not value that enough to give him a fair look.
  15. Sure maybe "worst contract in baseball" is too harsh, but it's a contract that's not going to age well. I guess it will depend on how long Vlad's prime is. If he's a 150-160 wRC+ player until age 35, then I think that's a great scenario. If his decline begins in his early 30's, then you start to envision a scenario where he's post-prime Pujols/Cabrera for like 8 years. I'm going by the latter, but would love if he has a David Ortiz aging curve. With that said, if it's the Vlad contract vs Santander/Gimenez/Kirk, then I'd take the Vlad contract in a heartbeat. He's an elite offensive player and is being paid like one. The others aren't necessarily bad contracts, but you're paying full freight on non elite players, so it's not the most optimal for a new front office having to inherit those deals.
  16. Yeah it's not limited to Mattingly, it's filtered down to the minors as well, so it's an organizational thing. They don't know how to develop power hitters, or they care too much about contact. Or both. This is an org that gave $15M to IKF. They absorbed $100M of Gimenez's contract. They took 80% or whatever it was of Myles Straw's contract when he had a 74 wRC+ in AAA last season and whose highest ISO in his career of .076 four years ago. The front office was glazing Roden and Wagner prior to the season as if they were Vlad and Bo, and both of their skill sets are contact heavy with limited power. This is what the org, for whatever reason, thinks will win games, either because they truly believe that, or they have no other options given what's available to them in the minors and free agency/trade. There was clearly a shift in 2023. Whether it was Mattingly or someone else, I have no idea, but the org was pretty good at acquiring power bats prior to that. Hopefully they do not corrupt Nimmala.
  17. It will be at some point, but it's probably fine for the next few years. A bigger issue for me is if things go south this season and there's a FO change for 2026, then the new FO is going to inherit this contract, plus 4 years of Gimenez at big money, 4 years of Santander, and 5 of Kirk when it's possible they may not have valued any of the them (especially the latter 3) at those years/price points.
  18. Glad they demoted Lucas. He did a good job getting the team 2 wins in unfavorable pitching matchups, but you can't ignore the last 2 starts. Cut bait after the luck wears off. Jake Bloss better turn into something, and quick.
  19. Yeah the Yankees lead the league in HR's and wRC+, the latter by a significant margin. Lucas most likely is going to get crushed at Yankee Stadium. Do some kind of piggyback with him and Schultz and hope for the best.
  20. Only 17 more singles between now and the 9th, and the Jays may get to 7 runs. Just have to hold Seattle to 6.
  21. The M’s brought in their version of Barnes and the Jays powered their way to 3 straight outs.
  22. Yeah I'm not going to blame Barnes here. He's on the roster in a mop up role but the Jays seemingly had no one else to use with Hoffman and Garcia not available. Even if the latter two were available, it wouldn't have mattered. This one is on the bats. They had plenty of chances.
  23. Hopefully Gimenez bunts to start the next inning.
  24. Didn't realize Barnes is 35. What the hell do they see in him other than an easy DFA once Swanson comes back?
