  1. Well, not someone who comes as borderline free as Grilli did, but someone who won't cost much to acquire because of age or performance that could improve. I don't expect Shapkins to be trading any real prospects, but I hope they target an OF, preferably someone who can cover RF. Smoak is not taking advantage of his playing time at 1B, and Bautista in RF before the toe problem was bad so I don't want to see how bad it is after.
  2. Who is the Grilli equivalent of an outfielder that might be available? Trade for him, puts Bats at DH/1B, and see what happens.
  3. Reyes at age 31 had a 3.5 WAR, 104 wRC+, and .287 average (since BA was brought up by the smart poster who called everyone else stupid). The following season he fell off the face of the earth defensively and offensively. Tulo is clearly better than him, especially defensively, but age does not discriminate and Tulo's been average to below average offensively since the start of 2015. Now, if this hot streak is legit and he can carry it over to the 2nd half, then that changes things, but right now, I don't think it's fair to say "he is back". He could be, but hot streaks happen. I'm in the camp that wouldn't mind trading him after this season, but a SS replacement has to be there (not Barney). With CWS's love of vets, maybe Tulo for Anderson is possible.
  4. BBref says Barney has one more year of arb after this one, so I think he's still under team control after 2016. Not a game changer or anything, but as a utility infielder, he's a good guy to have around.
  5. The team Shapiro left and the team Shapiro is on. Sportsnet comments section in shambles.
  6. Thole would be working at Wal-Mart if it wasn't for Dickey.
  7. Still pissed the Jays couldn't win this match-up in Game 4.

  9. Get Trevor May. Keep him in the pen the rest of the year and then stretch him out next spring. The Twins are like Pete Walker, they love dat "pitch 2 contact" philosophy, and May is not that type of pitcher. Buy low.
  10. I'm rooting for Tulo. Great player in his prime and the Jays have a lot invested in him the next four plus years. Looked like s*** early in the year and the end of last year which makes me nervous. I'm still nervous about him long term but put up a few 3+ WAR seasons over the next five years and I'll be happy.
  11. Yeah, when JB gets back, he needs to replace Smoak in the lineup. Either put Pompey in right, or trade for a vet stop gap to hold the spot down for the rest of the season. Bautista sucked in the outfield before the toe injury. He won't get better out there, and Smoak isn't hitting enough to justify not making the switch. You had your chance with Roidabello out, and you blew it, Smoak.
  12. Impending FA's of any significance: JB, EE, Saunders, Dickey, Cecil, Storen, Smoak, Chavez Cecil, maybe? I can't see the front office trading JB, EE, or Saunders right now, and Dickey/Smoak/Chavez don't have that much value. Maybe they are starting talks now incase they fall out of the race in the next month. Either that, or it's prospect for prospect trade. I can't see anything else.
  13. Trading vets when they are tied for the 2nd WC, 0.5 game out of the 1st WC, and 4-5 games out of 1st in the division would be ballsy by the new regime. It would depend who they trade, but I'm curious now.
  14. Show passion, but then live with the consequences. When you get pulled over by the police, they have 100% power. You can't beat them. If you argue/curse at them, they'll still win, but possibly make it 10 times worse for you. Not the best example, but that's how umps are. They have all the authority in baseball and you can't beat them. So curse at them, and live with the punishment. They are wrong more often than not, but what the hell are you going to do to officials who are bullet proof? You can't fight them.
  15. The Jays are 0.5 game out of the 2nd Wild Card, tied with 3 teams. This is like the worst spot to be in. Not good enough to feel confident that they are a playoff team, but not bad enough to start trading pieces away for next season. The team better play really well or s*** the bed from now until July 31st to give us a better idea of what they are, good or bad. I've seen enough 82-85 win teams to not be impressed by them. At least in the JPR years they were 82-85 win teams with 2 super teams ahead of them and only one WC. Doing it now means nothing.
  16. Pretty naive to think an umpire will get in trouble for anything they do. They are more bullet proof than any official in any other sport. With that said, arguing with umps about the strike zone is tired as hell. You know these guys are power hungry and can control outcomes of games, so why rile them up? Maybe Bautista is rubbing off on everyone. It's ridiculous. Yes, the umps suck. They always have, and they always will. Just have to play through it. That's why it's laughable when MLB tries trivial things to "make the game better" (shorter time between pitches, etc), but the one thing that can improve the game (robo umps) will never be considered.
  17. Umpires gonna umpire. Baseball keeps trying to figure out ways to improve the game but ignore the one thing that could actually do it.
  18. Agreed. They are in a spot where they could win a WC spot or get overtaken, and neither scenario would be surprising. If they end 2016 without a playoff berth and only get picks for JB, EE, and now I guess Saunders, then that would be pretty disappointing.
  19. Damn, I wish AA traded for Carrasco last trade deadline instead of Price and Tulo. Wonder what the price actually was, if he was available at all.
  20. "A s*** ton of value"? A 200 IP league average starter does have value, but he's attached to a back-up catcher that shouldn't be in the Majors and being average does not equate to a "s*** ton" of value. If he was 2012 RA, then Thole could be here and I wouldn't give two shits, but if you're a 4.00 ERA/210 IP starter, then f***, that's average at best.
  21. Trading Dickey for a reliever and moving Chavez to the rotation should have been done yesterday. Thole is a below replacement player, and Dickey is probably average at best. It's not worth it. If the Dickster didn't come with a carry on s***** catcher, that would be acceptable, but he's not good enough to carry a guy who will be out of baseball the moment Dickey retires.
  22. Why are people expecting the Orioles to regress? Have we not seen this story before (2012 and 2014)? I think their offense and pen carries their s*** starting pitching and then they'll trade for help at the deadline. I think they got the East. Jays win the 1st WC, beat the Royals in the WC game, advance to beat the Rangers in the ALDS, and then beat the O's in the ALCS to advance to the World Series. Beat all our least favorite teams in one shot. It's destiny.
  23. Bichette and Biggio off to good starts. Not so much for Woodman.
  24. Atkins has always said this, while Shapiro has mentioned an innings limit (I think), and Gibbons (I can only imagine speaking on behalf of the org) said Sanchez moving to the pen will happen. They are all over the place. Just don't mention anything and let whatever happens happen. If he shows signs of fatigue and is breaking down towards August or so, then make the move. No need to keep mentioning it.
  25. Baltimore (ugh) wins the division, and either Toronto or Boston gets the 1st WC. The team that doesn't misses the playoffs entirely (either the Royals or Astros get the other WC spot). The Orioles are their "everything goes right every two years" bull s*** can stick it.
