  1. I never said it had anything to do with the lineup change. Gibbons is ass as a manager. Hale can't be any worse.
  2. Let Hale take over the rest of the season.
  3. Yeah, I was looking at the standings trying to determine which teams would have interest in Bautista, and the White Sox jumped out at me. They seem like a team that would pull an AA and go for short-term gratification, too. Whether they have the young talent that would help the Jays is another story.
  4. Yeah, that doesn't look good. I don't see a way out of it either. The free agent market sucks, they have nothing in the minors, and no expendable prospects to trade for upgrades. I don't know if Shapiro is a smooth enough talker to sell trading Donaldson, but it might be necessary if 2016 goes in the shitter.
  5. Agreed. I'm not sure what we can get for Dickey, Smoak, Saunders, etc, but you would think the Jays would get a few players with upside for JB and EE, and that will help in 2017 and beyond. I will not shed a tear if this team collapses. AA made this bed, and someone else has to clean it up. I'd rather start the clean up now and make the down period as short as possible.
  6. Yep that was me. Make the playoffs again? Good. Stink up the joint forcing the team to trade vets at the deadline to help the lifeless farm system? Good. I guess the one downside is if the team does nothing and then finishes sub-.500 or around .500 anyway, but I hope it doesn't come to that.
  7. About to be 9 games back in the loss column behind Baltimore. In mid freakin' May. That's a pretty big hole to climb out of.
  8. When the fans gave Gibbons a standing ovation at their season ticket event, it was karma. The Baseball Gods couldn't believe a fanbase was that stupid, and decided to put an end to it. The 2016 season is their punishment. I don't blame him.
  9. So, what type of package could Bats and Edwin fetch at the deadline??? (trying to find a silver lining here).
  10. With a s*** farm system, an aging roster about to lose two of its best players, and a payroll that doesn't figure to get any higher, I highly doubt that expecting short-term success is reasonable. It's possible, sure, but a lot of work needs to be done, and I don't think this front office is married to the core of this team.
  11. Donaldson is 30 with two years of control left after this season before he's a FA. Stroman looks good, Sanchez (if he keeps this up) looks like a good MLB starter, Travis looked good last season, and Osuna is a good reliever who hasn't thrown more than 75 innings in a season. A lot of work needs to be done. AA left this team with one year of contention left and then a dumpster fire. Don't get it twisted.
  12. Like I said before, if the Jays are going to lose, I hope they go full 2012/13. That way Shapiro can clean house even earlier (trade deadline). This roster had a one year window. If that window has already closed, then f*** it, try to get as much young talent for the impending free agents as possible. Beg Bats and Edwin to waive their NTC's in July if you have to.
  13. Yeah, Stroman seems like the type of pitcher who you use for six years and then let go to free agency, which sucks because he's such a likable guy.
  14. Yep, this looks like a team that realizes their run is over, and is trying to cling to past performance as much as they can. The sad part is, the Jays got exactly two months out of this group. Most of these teams get at least a couple of years before the window closes and they have to rebuild. AA traded 3 season's worth of prospects for two freakin' months. Alex Amaro Jr. left this org at just the right time. He left a hero instead of staying long enough to be the villain. Smart man.
  15. The sad thing is, casual fans will blame this season on Shapiro if things go poorly, even though it's AA's roster with AA's manager/pitching coach/hitting coach and AA's fingerprints all over it. The fact that people acted like he was a God when he left still embarrasses me as a fan. Toronto fans are so thirsty they were blinded by what could be a one off playoff run.
  16. Yep. This roster only had one more year of contention before it has to be dismantled. Shapkins knew that, and built the team like they did accordingly. No way this regime wants to keep all the old players, with good reason. They don't want to pay market value for the declining years, and the window for this roster is closing rapidly. AA left before he could Amaro this team even more than he already did. I want the Jays to make the playoffs and win the World Series this year, but if they lose, I want them to go full 2013. They have a ton of trade chips that will be free agents at the end of the season, and a farm system/MLB roster that desperately needs young talent. It makes a ton of sense to unload vets at the deadline if they fall out of it. It might even be better for the team long-term to go that route, but obviously if they have to real chance to make the playoffs, that should take greater priority.
  17. Yes the players are depressed over losing AA. that explains it. It's also all Shapiro's fault despite 95% of this team being the guys he inherited. Like I said, AA dipped at the right time. Don't think for one second he didn't know what he was doing.
  18. In the long run they probably are better off trading players at the deadline (JB, EE, Dickey, Cecil, Saunders, etc). Chances are you'll only be getting picks for JB and EE, and ultimately the type of players you can get at the deadline (prospects that are ready/near ready) carry far more value than draft picks. They will have to be really far back in July for that to be realistic, though. The Jays are 2 games under .500 despite not really playing well for any stretch of the season. They probably have a sustained run in them at some point (11 game winning streak if recent history is any indication). They'll probably be too good to completely blow it up mid-season. But yes, I agree that trading vets at the deadline does not have a downside to it. The Jays are old and have a s*** farm system.
  19. Yeah seriously. Practically all of Shapiro's moves this winter have helped the team except for Storen, and that was the definition of a 'win now' move. While I agree that Shapiro did not want to continue with AA's core when he was first hired, that clearly changed after what happened in Aug-Oct 2015. He was trying to win in 2016. He just inherited a roster that collectively isn't playing well right now. Someone like Shapiro who knows about win curves isn't going to get joy out of wasting a perfectly good chance of making the playoffs/winning a world series just so he could detonate the roster to his mold. I'm sure he'll be doing that anyway in 2017 when this roster ceases to exist in its current form (JB/EE leaving), but his plans were clearly different heading into 2016. Shapkins added depth to AA's team. That's what we are seeing right now. They could still turn it around, but if that does happen, it will have to happen because the stars play like stars.
  20. Shapiro probably wanted to rebuild due to the team's poor farm system and aging roster, but he kept AA's team together and added some depth around it. AA dipped at the right time, and he knew exactly what he was doing.
  21. Bautista is universally disliked based on all the fan comments I have read. Umpires obviously hate him because he keeps showing them up. He certainly didn't help matters by going public with his demands in spring training for no reason, giving the perception that he's greedy/delusional with his contract expectations (though he has every right to want as much $ as he can get). We just have to accept that he's hated. If he wasn't a Jay, we might be right there with everyone else. He's still one of my all time favorites though.
  22. O Not in baseball, but just in general. I'm not suggesting that I'm an MMA fighter or anything, but if someone shoved me, I'd be prepared for something beyond that. It looked like Bautista expected the typical athlete "hold me back man!" fight where no one lands anything and bravado is only shown when the player is restrained, but that doesn't mean he should have taken it for granted like that. If someone shoves you, be prepared. If the punch came before the shove, then I'd look at it differently. It's cruel irony that one meme (bat flip) will now turn into another (punch in the face). I loved the bat flip, but fans hate Bautista like we hate Machado, Ventura, etc. what can you do?
  23. Bush's story is not compelling at all. He does not deserve any respect for what he's done in the past (a second chance is fine but not a heart warming story). Regardless, that was obviously Bannister's call, IMO. They waited until his last AB for a reason.
  24. Bautista doesn't know how to fight is what I got out of this. The moment Odor pushed him he should have been ready for something. I guess when staring disapprovingly at someone doesn't work, he has no counter. Not a good look, Jose. Odor is a scumbag but don't let him punk you out like that. I guess Jose wasn't expecting a punch, and most athlete punches on the field don't connect, but man, that will be a meme forever now. Regardless, Odor is a ********, Bautista is hated by everyone except the Jays/Jays fans, and the Jays lose another freakin series.
  25. Yep. They'll need to find replacements in RF, 1B, DH, LF, and the usual (SP/RP/BN depth) and the existing core on offense will all be in their 30's (Donaldson/Tulo/Martin), and the young talent coming up is essentially Pompey. Then you're left with hoping Travis is both healthy and anywhere near the type of impact talent he was in 2015 going forward. People flipped out when I said AA pulled a Ruben Amaro (how dare I compare him to Amaro???), but look where the team is heading. They might make the playoffs in 2016 if the vets start to hit, but my god, it looks like s*** after that.
