    Transcribing what Shapiro said on Tim and Sid: "I tend to believe that the best work done in an off-season is we need to internally frame what our values are, understand what we think are acceptable in years, understand what we think the right price is whether it's trades or free agency, and have that in our minds when we head in. If you don't do that, you're apt to get carried away and those are the deals you end up regretting whether they are trades or free agents". Jays made an offer they felt Fowler was worth, wouldn't budge on it, and the Cardinals blew it away. That's likely what happened.

    That was Retweeted by Rosenthal, so looks legit. As far as other OF options, I'm going to say this until someone from the Jays front office reads it and actually listens to me. Jarrod f'n Dyson. Then sign Bautista. You figure between Pillar and Dyson in the OF they can live with a pylon in right or left (wherever they play Jose). Make it happen dammit.

    I don't remember the quote but Shapiro was on Tim and Sid yesterday and alluded to how important it is to go into the off season with internal evaluations of market value and not going over it. I think they will stick with 4/60 and either lose him to the Cards or get him at that price.

    Yep. Only reason to circle back to Bautista is lack of other options. If Fowler goes to the Cardinals, then Bats and his bruised ego are probably staying in Toronto.

    Sounds about right. If money is equal, he'll go elsewhere and stay in CF. Jays are going to have to bump their offer up.

    Biagini is not going to be stretched out? I thought that was the plan. I think Sparkman (if he doesn't look like dog s*** in spring training) and Bolsinger will make the team. Osuna and Grilli are obviously locks. If Biagini is staying in the pen, then he's a lock as well. Loup should win a spot if they don't acquire another lefty in free agency. If they do then he might be on the bubble with options remaining. Really anyone with options will probably be sent down for depth purposes.

    Bautista is going to show up to spring training fat as hell with the amount of humble pie he has been eating this off-season.

    From my recollection, Rogers asked a Yankees executive for advise on who to hire, and the Yankees guy gave the names of Duquette and Kenny Williams. Then Rogers tampered when trying to talk to both of them. In other words, the Yankees guy suggested two terrible names, Rogers took it seriously, and illegally tried to make a deal with them. Lucked into Shapiro would be understatement. It was a gift from the Heavens.

    Gibbons wouldn't put him at DH and bat him clean up, so that's a major advantage he has over Fatty.

    Shapiro said he'd never do a player option so that won't be happening. If this is true then I hope the 3rd year is a team option but I doubt it would.

    Will have to see it to believe. Not buying it until Kenny Ken or Heyman or another reliable source mentions it. But yeah, three years is too long. Would rather have Fowler for four than Bats for three. A two year deal would be better.

    I think Davidi mentioned it, but might be speculation on his part.

    If the payroll is going to be around 160m, then they can't afford Fowler and Bautista, unless one or both take far less than they are expected to get. Might be one or the other.

    Yeah the fact that they are even circling back to Bautista tells me that they don't see Fowler signing with them. Getting the younger, better defensive player seems like a no brainer, but if it's not an option, then you have to go with the best of what's left. Joey might be it. But yeah, seeing him in RF again would be painful.

    This might signal that Fowler is a no go and Joey might be the best/affordable option.

    I don't mind Joey Bats as long as it's short term. Might mean they sense Fowler isn't happening.
