    I get Manfred's agenda. Fans are on the older side, and for the game to stay relevant they'll need to get younger eye balls onto the sport. The issue is, what the hell is going to be accomplished by getting rid of the IBB and just awarding 1B to the hitter? These cosmetic changes don't really accomplish anything. Pitchers turning into Buehrle as far as pace, and batters stepping out less? That might help. Shaving 30 seconds for something that doesn't happen that often to begin with is a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.

    The best internal option is Pearce at first and Upton in left. So naturally, let's have Smoak at first, and either Pearce risking injury in the outfield, or Carrera (who can't hit righties) playing everyday against them. The way to avoid Gibby hurting the team is to give him a dummy proof roster. Smoak and Zeke do not accomplish that, although Smoak's playing time might be the front office's idea.

    If the Jays actually had pitching prospects above the low minors, they wouldn't need to do as much of it, but yeah, this is pretty typical. Good pitchers don't sign minor league deals or agree to start a season in the minors to serve as depth, so you take chances on guys like Latos and Floyd, and hope you get something.

    That big ass space in the picture between Stro and Sanchez probably won't help the rumors of their shattered bromance.

    He had about the most humbling year ever, between getting hurt twice, becoming a meme by being the receiving end of a punch, and ending up with 1/18 after asking for 5/150 the year before. Dude better be motivated.

    It's a minor league deal. $1mm if he makes the team with $500k in incentives.

    I would be surprised if it was a major league deal. Probably a minor league deal where he will get $1.5mm if he makes the team.

    Happ is signed through 2018. Estrada and Liriano will be free agents after 2017. Biagini filling one of 2018 spots would be a big boost.

    They seem to be discussing a minor league deal. Ben Nicholson Smith was just stating what his salary would be if he made the big league roster. That makes more sense.

    The team has no SP depth even with their existing five starters. Subtracting one of those five for Latos does nothing to improve the depth and makes the rotation worse. No way that's the reason for their interest here. More likely they want a swing man to fill whatever role Chavez had last season. Maybe this means they don't have faith in Bolsinger and plan to see if he can clear waivers before the start of the season (assuming it's a MLB deal). My guess is it's a minor league deal if it does happen.

    I don't mind if the Jays take it slow with Pearce in April since he's coming back from injury, but dammit he better be starting everyday at some point.

    Tabata is s*** but whatever. Just a minor league deal. Maybe they can tweak his swing or something.

    I don't even blame Gibbons for this. No reason to tender Zeke a contract, much less give him over a mil to produce replacement level performance when the OF market is cheap as dirt right now. I was always expecting Gibby to platoon those two (one bats left, the other bats right, numbers be damned). The front office could have avoided it though.

    Justin Smoak better be a late bloomer. Rarely see such a low AAV by baseball standards ($4m) look so terrible.

    I think they might option him because they don't want to lose Sparkman and they can't really afford to lose Bolsinger. So that puts the pen as Osuna, Grilli, Howell, Smith, Bolsinger, and Sparkman. If Biagini starts in the bigs instead of AAA, then that's your 7 guys right there. If Biagini starts in AAA as a SP, then that opens up a spot for Loup. I think Floyd as a RP has potential. Just call up Loup after Floyd's arm falls off.

    Loup has an option left I think so he may not be a lock. If Biagini starts in AAA: Osuna, Grilli, Howell, Smith, Floyd, Bolsinger, Sparkman If Biagini starts in the bigs: Osuna, Grilli, Howell, Smith, Biagini, Bolsinger, Sparkman
