If Bautista comes back for one year I suspect it will be after he rejects the QO, tests the market, and sees no offers worth taking. I doubt his ego will allow him to accept the QO, and maybe he will get a 3-4 year offer somewhere else. Looking at the alternatives, JB back for one year would be a pretty solid development if it happens.

I hope you guys are right about Bruce, but just saying I could see a scenario where he's a trade target. One year of control and shouldn't cost much to acquire. Man I want the off season to start already. Let's hear about the damn moves.

The front office seems to like him though. I could see the Mets dumping him for very little in return. Not the player I'd go after but wouldn't shock me if the Jays got him.

Man, I could see the Jays going after Bruce. If the Mets are smart they'd value Conforto more anyway. But yeah if the Jays get Bruce he better not touch the field on defence.

Trade for Dyson, platoon him with Upton. Yeah that's not great offence but overall value would probably be a huge surplus.

Just a throw in the dark guess, but I'll say the payroll will be $160m. Anything less than that with the contracts currently on the team and either they'll have to take a step back, or try to make a lateral move by sending a big contract in a trade (Tulo or Martin). I can't see payroll being lower than 2016. That makes no sense.

Well, Desmond signed a one year deal because no team wanted to lose a pick for him, so he didn't have the options that Fowler has, but I'll give you that. I guess my point is, unless the player is on board, it's pointless to say "well he just has to shift over". Some players may not mind, while others might. It's not as simple as "he's not Mike Trout, Jesus, so he will do what we say, dammit!". Fowler has options and can find a job playing his natural position. Unless the Jays overpay him, I think it's fair to say he'd value the CF jobs more than the LF/RF jobs.

There's one, although was any team willing to keep him at short? Dude was awful defensively. Fowler actually graded out positively on defence the past two seasons surprisingly.

It doesn't matter if RF and CF are both in the OF. If Fowler has played CF his entire career and has other teams willing to play him in CF, then what incentive does he have to sign with the Jays unless they overpay him? These guys aren't f***ing robots. You won't find many FA's, at least good ones, who change positions upon signing with a new team (except for ancient hitters who DH to extend their careers).

In other words you have no answer. Jays should sign Chapman and make him a long reliever/spot starter. As long as he gets paid he won't care.

How many top free agents that aren't ancient sign with a team and immediately change positions? Im guessing the list isn't very long.

He will take the most money but some players prefer playing a certain position. Austin Jackson signed with a team that would put him at CF last season. One year deal but still. If the Jays offer the most money then there's always a chance but if money is close, then ny guess is he takes the CF gig.

Fowler can probably get a CF gig somewhere. The Jays would have to blow other offers out of the water to get him and lose a pick in the process, and that's assuming he wants to sign in Toronto to play RF or LF. Don't see it happening. Holliday makes sense and now I want to see it happen.

Holland would be a solid risk to take. Good to know the Jays will do business with Boras now, really opens up the talent base they can acquire.

I don't know why some want to trade the SP depth. As is the Jays need more SP depth, not less.

Well he couldn't be truthful about JB's defence without offending him, so not surprised by that answer.

Was his performance in 2015 and 2016 in the bigs worth messing up his future as a SP? He's been excellent as a reliever but could the Jays have still succeeded without him while having him start in the minors? Honest question.

Not writing him off, but can't ignore how his bat has slipped the past two years, and he's at an age where you can't assume he'll just bounce back.

The problem with the Tulo trade is that the Jays are paying for what should be the twilight of his career, and it won't be cheap. If he had a few more 4-5 WAR seasons left in him, then you could live with the decline towards the end, but he's been a ~100 wRC+ hitter for the past two seasons, and he's just going to get older, slower, etc. If the defense slips at all, his value will plummet, unless his bat can bounce back from ages 32-35, which is possible I guess, but not likely. It's a tough one because Reyes was so bad defensively, and Tulo's defense has been a big reason for the Jays being so good the last year and a half, but I can definitely see the argument of why it was short sighted. I felt that way when it happened. AA is Dave Dombrowski's mini me. He takes risks and spends a ton. Some times the risks look great, but when they fail, it looks terrible.

His career high in innings was this season, all as a reliever (74 regular season innings, 9 more in the playoffs). The most he threw in the minors in a single season was 43. He has had TJ and now a shoulder issue crept up in the playoffs (may not be serious but something to keep an eye on). I just don't see how he can throw 100-150+ innings as a starter next season. I think the argument of starter vs. reliever in terms of workload is definitely arguable until more data is put into it (especially with Gibbons using relievers so recklessly), but Osuna is a different case for me. Mechanics don't look great, injury history, and lack of innings. Bad combination for a starter. He's already a pretty damn good reliever so just hope he has four more good seasons left in him and let him walk after that, or trade him before that.

I'd prefer Fowler to Reddick, but for some reason I get the feeling Reddick might be the easier sign. Fowler won't play CF in Toronto and that might be important to him. I'd also prefer Pearce to Thames for obvious reasons. Otherwise, count me in. Holliday makes so much sense for this roster given the way it is constructed that it will be a shame if/when it doesn't happen. Pearce too. Let's see Atkins work some magic here. Also, I've said this the past two off-seasons so I'll say it again, trade for Jarrod Dyson. Not sure how, or what it would take, or even if KC would want to do it given how cheap/valuable he is, but find a way. Underrated as hell.

Isn't Donaldson friends with Reddick? Get Reddick to play RF, Holliday to DH, enjoy the two picks from JB/EE.

Shapiro said he would not do a player option. I distinctly remember him saying that in the off-season.
