  1. Post-2016 was always going to be a bit of a transition. They are losing two of their cornerstone players. Putting the team in a position to be in the 80-85 win range gives them a real chance at a WC spot if they get some breaks, and in the mean time they can build up the farm system to hopefully churn out some talent in the next few years. Shapiro came into a very unique situation but he's handling it really well, in my view.
  2. Oakland A's. If the question is "who is going to value this piece of crap player", the answer is almost always the Oakland A's.
  3. Gibbons was playing Navarro over Smoak in certain points over the last two seasons. If Pearce signs here, he'll be playing everyday. If not initially, then pretty soon into the season. Morales, Gurriel, Pearce, and Reddick would be a pretty solid off-season. Keep all the prospects + picks, too.
  4. I actually thought the Dickey trade was more defensible than the big trade that happened before it (Marlins deal), but yeah, it still sucked. Not his fault though. He didn't make the trade.
  5. Didn't the Jays claim Pearce a few years ago, only for him to choose to go back to Baltimore? As much as I want the Jays to sign him, maybe he wants to stay in 'Merica.
  6. Sample size. Randomness.
  7. Does this mean no Matt Holliday? Dammit.
  8. If it happens, we know who Gibby will have a man crush on next year.
  9. Sources: #BlueJays making push for Kendrys Morales. Hit 30 HRs with .795 OPS for #Royals. Potential impact on Jays’ other FAs unclear. That's from rosenthal.
  10. Agreed that this front office has so far done a good job balancing trying to win and improving the farm at the same time. They came into a very unique situation and so far have navigated through it really well. Even if he doesn't pan out, he is an asset signed to a very affordable deal. Can't complain.
  11. Nicely done Shapkins. Like the move a lot. Adds talent to the org.
  12. Braves are doing what good rebuilding teams do. Have some average vets soak up innings while trying to develop pitching in the minors. It's not like they'd be using that money to sign stars.
  13. No Dickey or Thole this season is a blessing.
  14. Nats and Pirates apparently discussed a deal for Cutch at the deadline according to Rosenthal. Seems like a pretty good trade target for the Jays, but no clue what the Pirates would want. They'd be selling low.
  15. Pearce would be a great add. Can hit LHP, play multiple positions, and the Jays have Justin friggin Smoak as their only 1B option right now. No brainer. Sign the man up.
  16. My god I could just imagine the man crush Gibbons would have on such a "professional hitter". For that alone I hope it doesn't happen. Pearce and Holliday. Make it happen.
  17. I can't see this front office giving Edwin four years. I think it's lip service as well, but we'll see.
  18. Cespedes seems way more likely to get 5/125 than Edwin is.
  19. Thanks for the memories Edwin. Peace.
  20. From a versatility standpoint I think one of the best bets would be Pearce. He's probably more of a 1B at this point but played 2B, 3B, and the OF last season.
  21. Wouldn't shock me if he's back on a smaller deal, but yeah, no way he was worth a QO.
  22. It should help, but it will come down to money and years ultimately. The Jays were pretty irrelevant in the mid-00's but were the only team willing to go five years on Burnett and Ryan, and they signed both. Money talks. I just don't see this front office going into the upper tier of a s***** free agent market.
  23. Interesting buy low option there. Didn't even realize he was a free agent. Would make sense.
  24. Is this a prediction thread or what we want to happen thread? Because a lot of this stuff mentioned seems pretty unrealistic (signing top free agents).
  25. Morales (if no QO) Moss Pearce Revere (only if he's non tendered by the Nats) Cecil
