I'll refrain from criticizing Gibbons for a week out of pure gratitude that the Jays don't have Buck managing them. That's how bad Showalter was in this game.
That decision made Gibbons look like Earl Weaver by comparison.
Thank you, Buck. And man I can't wait to read the Hangout.
That's why I can live with the result tonight regardless of what happens. If the Jays won 92 games and the O's won 86, then I'd be pretty pissed if the Jays lost. At least in this case the 2nd WC was irrelevant since we would have seen a tie breaker anyway.
You're surprised Gibbons went with his gut? That's all the guy ever does. It's either his gut or whatever defined roles he had already decided on. Grilli will be pitching in the 8th inning if the game is close since he's the 8th inning guy, and so on.
Jays have to win in spite of Gibby, like always.
Baltimore just needs to have the lead after 5. O'Day, Brach, and Givens are handle 2-3 and Britton can go 1-2 depending on the situation. That's why I hate facing Baltimore in this game. The Jays have trouble against all starters now but their starter should be able to keep them in the game. A pen game so heavily favors BMore that the Jays can't afford to trail.
Is there any reason to believe that a man who makes decisions based on his gut will go with anyone other than Stroman?
Liriano was warming up yesterday in the 8th for no reason so maybe that's one clue.
Alex is chilling in LA watching the team he built (well, the offense) collapse like the old men that they are, knowing that he'll get none of the blame.
Dude is smarter than I give him credit for.
Gomez, Jackson, Pearce, Ramos (to DH)....there are OF and DH types available that might provide value. Seems more sensible to go that route than try again with Saunders who is failing miserably in the 2nd half and can't play a lick of defense.
I'd argue they wasted a perfectly good season keeping him on board this year. I know this is AA's team and they probably did not want to rock the boat coming off the ALCS appearance, but the win curve won't be this high again for a while, and they wasted it with a nimrod managing it. You don't know when a chance like this will come around again.
Shapiro and Atkins will fix this s***. It might take a few years, but I trust them.
They did everything they could to prolong AA's little window as practically every pitching decision they made either worked out or was fixed when it failed (Storen), but the old ass offense couldn't hang.
Unfortunately I am watching the Jays feed, and Buck/Tabler are either blind, ignorant, or both. It wasn't by much, but the replay showed that the throw beat Tulo's foot just barely. It was the right call by NY.
I don't get why Bautista isn't leading off. He was doing it before. Why not again? Just f***ing move everyone up in the lineup and bat Carrera last. I mean, come on.
Saunders would accept the QO seconds after he found out it was offered. I'd pass. No team is going to lose a pick for him, and 1/17 is way too much money for him on a one year deal.
Pearce would be good. Gomez would be good (though he may not be a buy low anymore with the way he is hitting for Texas). There are options.
