    Man looking at the Jays roster, who the f*** can they trade for any value at all? That's the most depressing part about this team. The veterans aren't worth s***.

    Yeah, Bautista picking up his option while the Jays decline it because no one in their right mind would pay him $17mm would hurt his ego more than a trade. At least a trade you can spin it as "thanks for all the great years with us but we're not winning a ring this year so go get one" type of thing. Bautista announcing he will retire at the end of the season is really the only way I'd want to keep him but that's not going to happen. Even giving 2nd half AB's to a never-will-be like Dwight Smith Jr would at least have a tiny bit of upside if he turns out better than expected. But trotting Jose out there as a shell of what he used to be isn't going to get anyone to buy a ticket to watch a bad team.

    Yeah if he can cover 2b even decently then no more Goins playing everyday when Travis misses 80 games next year. Guirrel turning into a big leaguer asap would be great.

    Don't care if the Jays win or lose, but dammit I want Estrada to raise his trade value. Become Acetrada again for at least one more week!

    I don't know who the F Gideon Turk is, but he wrote this on BP Toronto. Estrada for Sparkman would be pretty damn funny in a sad way.

    What is Cavan's upside? Utility IF? It would be cool if all three came up and became MLB players at the same time, but Biggio seems like a longshot.

    Yeah they should not sell for the sake of selling unless it is trying to salvage a bad situation (like trading Jose, Marco, and Liriano). Otherwise, hold out for the best value even if it's a year from now. The prospects they get back are more important than the direction of the team. Try to maximize the prospect return.

    At this rate if you could get a Matt Boyd equivalent, you'd have to take it. Low upside, bottom rotation guy who can help right away will have value.

    The only argument against rebuilding would be that nobody wants our s*** (Jose, Estrada, Liriano, Tulo, Martin, Morales, etc), or we would be selling real low and not maximizing proper value (JD). It's starting to look like trading Stroman, Sanchez, and Osuna is the only real way of rebuilding, and you can probably move them next year at this time and not lose out on much value. Otherwise, I can't imagine sitting through another season like this next year. This one is bad enough and it's barely half way done.

    Gibby leaving Zeke and Montero on the bench because god forbid one of them pinch hit and Goins take over defensively afterwards.

    Pompey makes Travis look like Cal Ripken when it comes to durability so I wouldn't count on it.

    Was any team going to trade a good prospect for Bautista anyway? He makes $18mm, average at best offensively now, bad base runner, bad defence, bad reputation around the league (whether we like it or not). Not exactly desirable. Estrada and Liriano s***ing the bed hurts a lot more.

    A little bit of both, probably. Shapiro can likely do what he wants within the parameters that Rogers gives him, but the company itself wants to make money, so anything that negatively impacts the bottom line might need to be green lighted first. Like if Shapiro wanted to trade Sanchez for something, then ownership won't care. But if he wanted to trade Sanchez, Stroman, Osuna, etc, and completely wipe out the roster to rebuild, then he would need some type of thumbs up from ownership since that's likely to impact the bottom line short-term. But yeah, I think Rogers prefers a team that can sell hope every year, even if it leads no where. I was hoping Shapiro could change that, but maybe he can't.

    Glad they used a pinch runner on their best hitter who was already on 3rd, rather than on Morales who is at 1B and slow as s***.

    Gordon would be more of a 2018 move since the Jays are pretty much done in 2017 regardless. I wonder if they would try Travis in a different position that might be easier on his body (LF?). I see no other point in acquiring Gordon unless they had plans to move Travis to a different spot. Gordon alone isn't going to change anything for 2017, and they'd still have him in 2018-2020 so they'll have to play him somewhere.

    Have the Jays ever really sold during any trade deadline since Rogers took over? I'm trying to think of one instance but can't remember. Maybe Alex Gonzalez for Yunel Escobar, if that counts?

    Dick, going for it next year and still trading JD, Happ, etc, would be fine with me. They'll fall way short in all likelihood but at least they would have maximized the value of their biggest veteran assets. It's keeping everyone, making bandaid signings to fill holes, and still coming up short that will bug most of this forum. Aka the Jays from about 1995-2014.

    Yep, Liriano has no trade value now (if he had any to begin with). The only players worth selling on are Donaldson and Happ. Time for the front office to convince Rogers for the greater good. The fans are going to disappear even if they try to disguise this s*** as 'going for it' next year.

    Machado and Harper are speaking for the younger generation. They are right. I don't think Manfred is the guy who can change the game for the better, but clearly cosmetic changes have to be made. MLB can't be an 'old white man's game' and still expect to thrive in the future. Speaking of which, trying to appeal to a younger generation and then starting all Saturday games in the evening/night is kinda stupid. I'm sure teens would love to kill 3-4 hours on a Saturday night watching baseball.
