  1. Should have waited until after the trade deadline. To me, this next month and a half will be the most important in Atkins' tenure. What he gets for Stroman and Giles (and to a lesser extent Sanchez) is going to be critical. If he bombs on the trade returns, then having him around for another year or two will be prolonging the inevitable. If he succeeds, then he gains more leeway and maybe the team's rebuild starts to look a little more promising. Doing it now shows more faith in him than he probably deserves at this point, but whatever.
  2. He was a top prospect in the game with a great minor league track record. Even with the struggles he should be given as much rope as possible. I think he'll figure it out eventually.
  3. Glad he signed with the Cubs who don’t have a good system. Trade Giles to a team with a good farm.
  4. I'm pretty confident that the important picks in this draft will get signed. This isn't the AA regime. Shatkins probably had a pretty good idea who was going to sign before making the picks. Obviously nothing is official until pen to paper, but I think it's a pretty safe bet.
  5. It’s amazing how in a span of a year or two, the Shatkins supporters are suddenly the Sportsnet comments section. If the mariners put Domingo Santana in CF, I hope you white knight for their GM too.
  6. I’ve said before I’m negative about a lot of things right now but Ross Tankins will positively be able to build a team capable of losing 100 games, which seems to be the objective this year. Top 3 pick in 2020 is on lock.
  7. Teoscar apparently starting in CF tonight. Atkins knows how to tank better than seasoned GM's.
  8. The Jays drafted Nick Neal in the 11th round, who is listed at 6'6/285. More Thickness.
  9. Trading with Brian Cashman worked out about how I expected it to. Trading with the Rays will probably have a similar outcome. No thanks.
  10. Yeah I don’t know how his D is or whether he’s a long term option at 2b. If he’s not then it’s less of an issue.
  11. Is Biggio a 2B long term? If so, then playing him in right to get Sogard in the lineup during a rebuilding season is pretty derpy from a development standpoint. Just play the vertrin in right so that Biggio can develop there (if they see him there going forward).
  12. To be fair, if the Jays traded Stroman today, Manoah would be in the front of our rotation tomorrow.
  13. Definitely sounds like DJ Davis.
  14. I’ve been critical of Atkins lately but I feel very confident that he will be able to build a team bad enough to get a top 3 pick. See, I can be positive!
  15. This isn't AA drafting anymore. If Shatkins picked him, then he's probably already a lock to sign.
  16. Does the first round really need to be this long every year? Damn what a waste of time. Just get on with it. MLB can barely get people to attend their games, you think fans are flocking to MLB Network to watch this s***? The NBA draft can get away with it because the fans will see those players in a few months. Half of the first round in MLB will be lucky to reach the Majors. Be more efficient, Manfred.
  17. Damn. Even the head of scouting can't exaggerate to hype the guy up. Between that and Keith Law liking the pick....I don't know what's worse.
  18. Yeah people who think Shapiro will be allowed to rebuild for much longer are in for a rude awakening. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Rogers wants to win either in 2020 or 2021. This will be the third straight year the team sucks (despite only being the first year they are truly bottoming out), and I can't see Rogers letting this continue to trend downwards any more than it has.
  19. The Jays are definitely going to acquire Josh Naylor now from the Padres. Thiccc is the new untapped market.
  20. Hopefully there’s more footage of Smoltz talking about Manoah’s package.
  21. Agreed. I think Shapiro was a great hire and still is, but either Atkins is really bad (assuming he has full autonomy) or Shapiro has lost a step in a changing economic climate in MLB. Rogers will get tired of poor attendance either by the end of this season or next season, and I think Shapiro signed a five year deal when he took over (which would cover 2016-2020). I would not be shocked if Rogers moves on from Shatkins after 2020, especially if 2020 is a repeat of 2019.
  22. They made no effort to make the 2019 team better, have force fed playing time to never-will-be's, gave a 2 WAR player $50m a year and a half before they had do, and will trade their best pitchers in a market where teams do not trade top prospects anymore. I actually thought 2020 would be better, but I'm honestly scared we will waste at least half of Vlad's service time before it gets better. I know I'll get killed by the Shatkins white knights who will run to their defense, but I was actually a big fan of theirs since 2016 and they've turned me into this. It's their fault. Give me a reason to be optimistic fer god sakes!
  23. Yeah Wall's numbers do look a little like Alford's in AA, and we know what happened when he moved up. If Wall is a LF as mentioned rather than a CF, then that definitely takes away from his appeal. He'll have to take his high AVG/high OBP into every level for him to have a chance.
