  1. LOL at that called strike 2 on Rendon.
  2. I' m curious to see how the Nats manage the pen. I wouldn't feel comfortable with any of their relievers in a one run game that decides the World Series, and I'm not sure they'd bring Strasburg back out to pitch an inning on no rest. They might go with Corbin and Sanchez the rest of the way.
  3. Wow I was sure Cole was going to come in out of the pen after Greinke. Harris and now Osuna instead, and the lead is gone. The next couple of innings are going to be crazy.
  4. Scherzer literally couldn't move a couple of days ago. I wouldn't expect a great performance out of him. The bats have to get going against Greinke because there's a good chance Cole comes in at some poinr.
  5. In trades? Kluber and Archer might be available if the Indians and Pirates want to dump salary (and in Pitts case they will have a new front office that are more likely to tank than try to win now). I would think you wouldn't need to give up a top prospect to acquire either of those guys if they were available. Although, Archer signed one of those "I'll bend over and let Tampa F me for my entire prime" contracts so he's still cheap enough for the Pirates to hold on to even if they rebuild. In free agency, the middle group of free agent Sp's are probably all realistic. Gibson, Pineda, Roark, Miley, Porcello, etc, etc.
  6. Lol Soto is awesome for carrying the bat to 1st and dropping it. Brian McCann watching this game at home and yelling at everyone around him, most likely. Unwritten rules and all that.
  7. If you put Yankees and Dodgers uniforms on the players in this series, it would change everything about it from a ratings standpoint. Reality is ratings are down for this for the same reason they were down when the Royals and Giants played each other. It's the teams, not the players. This isn't the NBA where LeBron could play for freakin Cleveland, go up against an unbeatable team, and still have fans watch it knowing it will be a one sided bloodbath. Baseball is regional with very few mainstream appealing franchises. You could have two all star teams playing in this series and the ratings wouldn't change. Of course if you don't care about that stuff then none of this matters, but if the Jays are out of it, then I like when the game is heavily featured and talked about. It's not right now, for the reasons I mentioned.
  8. Yeah, this is definitely the least interesting matchup since 2014, which I can't even type without wanting to dose off (KC/SFG). This is just one of those years where it will be hard to get non baseball fans to care as much. Although I am glad Soto is getting a big stage like this. For what he is doing at age 20, he is going to be one of the top stars in the game.
  9. Just random links from Google search: https://www.thewrap.com/world-series-game-1-ratings-washington-nationals-houston-astros-fox/ https://www.thewrap.com/world-series-game-2-tv-ratings/ https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/world-series-ratings-drop-again-game-3-1250286 On the bright side, Game 5 of a 2-2 series on a Sunday night with Cole/Scherzer on the mound might help. I just like seeing more eyeballs on MLB. Won't happen this year unfortunately with the WS matchup.
  10. Man if the Astros hold this one and have Cole and Verlander in the next two games, I might have to revise the team of destiny thing about the Nats. Firing that assistant must have been the sacrifice the baseball gods wanted. Ratings for this series are record lows. MLB really needed the Yankees/Dodgers to happen.
  11. Yeah if he wants something completely unreasonable from the Jays then you make a fair offer and move on. Ultimately this is all for nothing. Shatkins doesn’t operate like this and expecting Rogers to approve a $200-300m commitment is unrealistic.
  12. Agreed. I think Cole should be the target this winter. He's a Boras guy. He's not taking less money to sign in his preferred destination. He will sign with the team that pays him the most. The Jays will likely have to give him more than anyone else by a significant margin (maybe an extra year or more AAV), but that's free agency. Cole being a Boras guy actually helps the Jays in a weird way. There's no excuse not to go after him. This is not a Kawhi situation where he wants to go to Cali and no where else. Boras guys go where the green is, and for once that actually plays right into the Jays' hands if they are willing to pony up. And considering they are a bad team playing in Canada, they will have to pony up. Any offer close to a better situation won't get it done. They'd need to have the strongest offer by a significant margin. However, I just don't see this front office working like that. This seems like an org that wants to develop their stars internally and fill in the gaps with free agency, not the other way around.
  13. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/stroman-says-hes-reuniting-former-blue-jays-head-trainer-nikki-huffman/ Stroman at it again.
  14. I don't think this front office (under Shapiro) will ever sign an elite player in free agency. He's already publicly said he'd never do a player opt out (that's been included in a lot of elite player contracts), and I can't imagine he'd set the market by giving Cole the biggest contract for a P in the history of the sport. It's more likely Shatkins will want to develop stars internally and supplement with the Happ/Estrada types in free agency.
  15. The thing is, Osuna didn't do anything to bring this topic back into light. It was a reporter with an agenda and then a drunk AGM who didn't realize that you can't fight SJW's in 2019 and expect to come out on top. I mean I don't feel sorry for him. He's probably an ivy league douchebag and the Astros are a scum org so no pity from me, but this all seems like a whole bunch of nothing.
  16. Definitely need a 1B (since Vlad won't move there yet) and CF/RF (wherever Grichuk doesn't play). I think the offensive core is solid as is, as I expect Jansen to bounce back with the bat, and Vlad's offensive explosion will be glorious when it happens, but still missing a few parts.
  17. Yeah I think Dominic Smith would be a good target. Blocked by Alonso, good offensive skill set, and we'd be dealing with Brody again which is a plus.
  18. The Nats are winning this series. It's destined to be.
  19. Honestly, someone tweeting the DV hotline number every time Osuna pitches sounds so annoyingly 'woke' that I don't blame the Astros for being upset. Osuna did something terrible (allegedly) but to have to remind everyone of that every time he pitches is excessive as hell. Google exists. People will know what Osuna has done/been accused of. Of course, the AGM should have known better than to do that publicly. That's a battle he has no chance of winning.
  20. Nats looking like a team of destiny this post season.

Jaylen Brown's contract makes Siakam's look like Christian Yelich's by comparison.
  22. Kevin Smith went 0-4 but only struck out once, so one of his better games.
  23. If the FA market is anything like the last two years, that's not a bad idea. We'd have cheap depth everywhere and some decent 2-3 WAR level starters all without giving up prospects, losing a pick, or hurting financial flexibility.
  24. Bautista's 2017 projection was like a 3 WAR, if I recall. Players at age 37 in the post PED era aren't easy to project. Nelson Cruz is an exception, but he's also been linked to PED's, so....
