    I actually think Acuna's contract was the biggest ripoff of the two. If his two options are picked up in '27-28, he'll make $68 million in what would have been his first four free agent years. So instead of being a free agent after his age 26 season and possibly looking at $200-300 million (depending on what the market looks like by then), he'll have to wait until he's 31 to get on the open market for the first time. I'm torn between giving props to AA and feeling bad for the players. But yes, smooth move by Alex either way.

    Considering I haven't mentioned AA in any post in probably years before this series, and it was barely a mention at all (just that I didn't want to root for his team), I think you might have started the sauce a little early tonight. But yes, the Rays and Braves is the worst possible World Series for baseball. If it annoys you, then it's worth repeating.

    Yeah not saying he's been bad, but he walked into a pretty difficult situation to mess up, so the AA boot licking by a segment of Jays fans is going to be pretty annoying if (likely when) the Braves make the WS.

    I can't wait to read all the comments from Jays fans attributing the Braves success to AA. That one year deal to Ozuna and then inheriting everyone else was definitely a sign of genius. Time for the Dodgers to reel off 3 straight.

    The 2019 World Series went 7 games. It started on October 22 and ended on October 30. So 7 games in 9 days. That's how it has always been for a 7 game series. The 5 game series that goes 5 games would take 7 days to finish. Baseball has always been pretty good with minimizing off days. It's usually just a day for travel. You might be thinking of the NBA which takes 7 months to get past the first round (at least it feels that way).

    Ugh just the thought of that World Series irritates me. The Dodgers are my only hope. Time for them to run off 4 wins in a row and save the 2020 WS.

    The Hendriks trade was somewhat defensible at the time since the team essentially had a one year window (2016) and no SP depth at all at the time the trade was made. Plus as mentioned Gibbons didn't seem to like him or use him in big spots. Chavez looked like a solid back end starter in Oakland. Obviously in hindsight the Jays had no need for even a 6th-7th starter that year due to amazingly good health, and Chavez was trash in the pen. Not a good trade, but it wasn't without some reasonable logic at the time. Just didn't work out. In some ways, it's better it didn't work out. I'd rather have had perfect SP health in 2016 like they ultimately had rather than needing Chavez to start 10-15 games.

    Not sure they'd move anyone else after trading Clevinger, but the Indians definitely need OF help and seem to always have SP depth. I'm fine with moving Hernandez (K% is still very high so maybe a good sell high candidate) but have to make sure to get a legit rotation upgrade. I think I'd want to hold on to Gurriel.

    I'm also pulling for the Dodgers so Kershaw can get a ring, so sucks that he's missing tonight's start. Hope he's good to go soon.

    White Sox fire Renteria. Odd timing but that’s going to be a very attractive job. Team on the rise, locked up for a long time, only going to get better.

    The Astros have the better offensive talent, but overall, I'd give the edge to the Rays (and I hate doing that). If Verlander and Osuna were healthy, then it would have been more advantageous for the Astros.

    Wouldn't surprise me if the Rays sweep this series. They not only have the better team, but they are also way better equipped to handle 7 games in a row.

    I thought I read (a while ago) that AA handled the draft signings in 2009 with JP on the way out, but I maybe I'm misremembering that. Beeston and Boras' issues are definitely well known so not surprising if Beeston was the culprit on the Jays end. You're right it's been so long, and so much has changed in the front office that I doubt it would be an issue, plus Paxton is coming off injury so he's not going to be as picky about where he goes.

    After watching Aaron Boontoyo manage against the Rays in the ALDS, it's clear the role of a manager is to just do whatever the front office/analytic team wants, and be the shield when the criticism comes. If the f'n Yankees are doing stupid pre determined analytical crap, then it's a league wide epidemic. The Rays are just way better at it than everyone else. You could replace Buntoyo with someone else and it probably wouldn't make any difference in how the team is managed on the field. It will just be another face taking orders from Atkins and co.

    If Paxton can pass a physical, then he's probably the best combination of affordable (due to injury) and upside. Although he still held a grudge with the Jays org even after he was traded to the Yankees, as he brought it up on a NY radio interview after the trade. I'm sure Shapiro (and money) can fix that, but whatever AA did to him during the draft must have been pretty bad. Jays seemed pretty serious about Odorizzi last winter too, so wouldn't be surprised if that is revisited without the QO involved.

    I know I’m in the minority on this forum when it comes to the Rays, but I have to fight the good fight. You guys will come around someday....

    I don't have any favorite teams aside from the Jays, so if they are not involved, then at least give me the best matchups that will be better for national exposure. I wanted the Lakers/Clippers in the NBA playoffs. The Raptors were gone, so might as well root for the better matchup rather than any cinderella team that most people wouldn't care about. Astros/Yankees (and now Astros/Dodgers) is the better matchup. Subjectively we can disagree on that, people enjoy different things, but no one can say that the Rays will have any sort of national (or even local) interest. That doesn't benefit anyone. It's more fun watching something that you know everyone else is watching. That won't be the case if the Rays go deeper. If the Rays had a Tatis Jr. type of superstar, then my opinion might be different since I'd watch just to see him, but there's not a single positive to the Rays going far unless you actively root for them. Literally any other team aside from the Rays would have been fine with me, but like I said, I know how this story ends. They are making the WS and probably winning it.
