  1. With the lineup the Jays are throwing out there, scoring 3 runs will be very difficult.
  2. Ump is bad but both pitchers are getting the same calls.
  3. Montoyo thought he had 2 minutes to decide whether to challenge.
  4. Harper is having a 2015 type of season so far.
  5. Yeah I mentioned it yesterday, the only realistic options for the 7th/8th seeds (still weird to say that about baseball) will be 2 of Jays/White Sox/Rangers. Yankees, Rays, Twins, Indians, A's, and Astros should be locks. The rest of the league is rebuilding/tanking/bad (O's, Red Sox, Royals, Tigers, M's, Angels). My guess is the White Sox will get the 7th spot, mainly because they face the Central (and their bats are legit), so down to the Jays and Rangers for the final spot.
  6. After this weekend, the Jays are done with the Rays (thank god), and from this coming Tuesday onwards, 48% of their remaining games will be against O's, Red Sox, and Marlins. Of course, another 30% will be against the Yankees, but can't avoid that. So these next 6 games (DH against Philly tomorrow and then 4 in Hell) will be important. Just go 3-3 and it would be a positive outcome.
  7. Doleese with dat closer experience gets the save.
  8. Dolis isn't bad, but no reason to bring him in when Hatch was cruising and you want him stretched out to some degree anyway. Now if Dolis is off, the game is on the line. Just Buntoyo being the idiot that he always is.
  9. Letting Hatch finish this was too creative for Montoyo. Get Dolis the save, dammit.
  10. I'd keep him in, but Buntoyo might have other ideas.
  11. I said at the time, you only sign him to that extension if you feel he has an extra gear in him, not because of status quo. If the Jays are right and he takes a step forward, then that's a good sign for their player development. They did a similar thing with Smoak and it worked out pretty well.
  12. I like this version of Grichuk.
  13. Nice throw by Teoscar there, but no excuse for lazy defence when it is a trend rather than an exception.
  14. Stay hot Espinal. Maybe Panik plays less while Bo is out.
  15. Roark is the pimple in what was otherwise a decent off season for Shatkins.
  16. I think there is a change in Grichuk and it's not just BABIP luck. According to statcast he is in the 75th percentile in whiff% so far this season, and his walk rate is close to 10%, which is a huge improvement over pre-2019/his career. It's practically a different player than what he used to be. In 2018 he was hitting the ball hard and barreling everything with bad plate discipline. They seemed to make some adjustment with him to reduce K's and remove a lot of the swing and miss in his game, but that impacted EV/hard hit/barrel% big time in 2019 which lead to his poor season. If he could combine his 2020 change with his pre-2019 power, you got a damn good offensive player. I'm not believing the hype yet. This is still a small sample size and he's historically better in July-Sept for whatever reason, so let's see him do this from start to finish next season. However, I don't think this is just BABIP related. He's made a real change. Whether it leads to a jump in offensive value moving forward remains to be seen.
  17. After all the games this year the Jays could have won but lost, I'll take this one.
  18. I heard Dan mention Merryweather starting the 10th, put the game on, and it is Bass. I'm telling you, until I actually see Merryweather on the mound, I don't believe he actually exists.
  19. Charlie intentionally walked DSJ? What? Why?
  20. The top 2 teams in each division make the playoffs regardless of record. So let's assume: NYY, TAM MIN, CLE OAK, HOU So that leaves two spots open. BAL, SEA, KCR, DET, and BOS all rebuilding/tanking. Angels suck. That leaves 2 spots for Toronto, White Sox, Rangers. Damn, the Jays actually have a better chance than I thought. Of course Bo being out hurts those chances a lot.
  21. I won't believe Julian Merryweather actually exists until I see him on the mound.
  22. Padres up 4-0 in the 1st. Running up the score this early is embarrassing.
  23. I think that’s the sad part here. MLB is actively trying to promote bat flips and other exciting plays. It’s their own players/management that is stunting their growth in this case. Baseball culture needs to change.
  24. Preller really supported the "unwritten rules" over his star player? What a joke. I guess it's not too surprising since he hired Tingler in the first place, and he wouldn't have hired someone like that without sharing those views. Man, Tatis needs to get the hell out of San Diego. Only four more years, Fernando. And F Hosmer.
  25. MLB players unanimously supporting Tatis. Won't post all the quotes, but list includes Eduardo Rodriguez, Howie Kendrick, Johnny Bench (!), Reggie Jackson, Amir Garrett, Colin McHugh, and probably a ton more that I haven't seen yet. I’m hoping Grichuk weighs in, just for my own amusement. I guess if you want to look on the bright side, the Rangers are the laughing stock on Twitter today, and Tatis is getting a ton of shine. If Padres manager is smart he'll take back what he said last night and support Tatis when he's doing media sessions tonight.
