My issue was not the prospect capital (Atkins hardly ever trades prospects so I wasn't worried there) but the contract extension + having to move the team's best player off SS at age 23. With Lindor being a PA rep, that should have been an immediate red flag to the Mets that an extension was either going to be insanely expensive (to help the players) or impossible because he'd want to test the market to maximize money. I still don't think it was a bad deal for the Mets necessarily. Use him for a year, maximize 2021 wins, qualify him, and then get a very good SS for less (one of Correa/Baez/Story) in free agency. If that's the worst case, it's not bad. It made less sense for the Jays since their 2023-25 seasons are likely going to be better than their 2021 season, so going all in for a year seemed like bad timing. Makes me think Atkins wasn't really all that into him and it was mostly media propaganda, but who knows.
Either way, I'm glad they went with Semien at 2B. Much better fit and keeps Bo at short.
