  1. On 6/2/11, Bautista was hitting .360/.502/.773 in 221 PA. Although that wasn't with a Manfred baseball, so hard to compare.
  2. So good for the Jays to be back in Buffalo rather than Dunedin. Time to go on a run (or as much of a run as possible with Buntoyo managing).
  3. Francisco should be playing 3B, Edwin should be the DH, and Jose Reyes should be misplaying balls at short. Go full 2013-2014 Blue Jays or go home.
  4. Montoyo does things that I don't think any other manager in baseball would do (bunting with 2 strikes in extra innings with runners on 1st/2nd no out, Chatwood debacle, etc). He's not a typical bad/average manager. Even John Farrell, Carlos Tosca, etc, weren't doing stupid s*** like Buntoyo does. "Managers don't make that much difference" doesn't apply to Charlie. He's on another level of terrible.
  5. “He’s been lights out,” Montoyo continued. “You know, the funny thing about it — we’re talking about just the one game. We took two out of three from the Yankees; two out of three from [Cleveland.] And we’re talking about one bad inning. You know what I’m saying? “Yeah, maybe we could have taken him out. Yeah, all that stuff. But he’s one of our best relievers. You’ve got to trust somebody one time and let them get out of trouble.” I'll give it to Buntoyo. He'd be a really solid little league coach. Try hard, let the kids develop their skills, wins don't matter. He's got the skill set.
  6. Domingo German's was done in public and he's back, so I don't think Ozuna's career is over. His 2021 season? Yes. As long as the Braves can't void his contract (and if they tried the MLBPA would fight it), then I would imagine they'd bring him back next season when the dust settles. Whether they should or not is another story, but the money is guaranteed, and as long as the Braves have to pay it, they'll want a return on it.
  7. Other than the obvious (Vlad/Bo), I'd only consider Semien. I'm still not sold on Ray/Matz as long term pieces. Semien at this rate is going to end up being a top 10 player in WAR this season, just like he was in the last 162 game season, and he still seems under the radar enough to not be paid like a true star (his age will make him cheaper as well). He will likely still get a big contract, so obviously cost/term will factor in to how much bringing him back makes sense for the Jays, but out of the extension candidates not named Bo/Vlad, he's the only one I think the Jays should consider. Wait it out with Teoscar.
  8. It's a blowout in the 7th in bad weather. Hopefully they have the common sense to just call the game.
  9. Manoah just has the look and demeaner of someone you want to give the ball to in a big game. Workhorse vibes. Of course he's a pitcher so have to temper expectations, but he passes the eye test.
  10. Agreed. I actually don't mind doubleheaders now because the games tend to breeze by.
  11. My guess is Manfred deadened the ball so that hitters stop swinging for the fences as much and shift their approach. The issue is that pitchers are so good now that even making contact is difficult, whether it's in the air or otherwise. With how bad this season has been in terms of offense, they will almost certainly start incorporating those experimental rule changes because long term this is not good for the sport. Although I am glad that the deadened baseball, if nothing else, has hurt the hitters who hit cheapo HR's. Unfortunately that list includes Biggio so it hurts the Jays, but at least it makes the HR a bit more an accomplishment.
  12. Why am I not surprised Chatwood and Romano were used with 4-5 run leads? Then when the game is close tomorrow it will be the carousel of AAA fodder in the high leverage spots.
  13. If Josh Donaldson was on this team, he would have knocked out Montoyo at least once this season.
  14. Jays losing to the Rays has to be in heartbreaking fashion. Nothing else would be normal.
  15. Tellez pinch hitting for McGuire to lead off the 8th. Buntoyo is trolling us.
  16. Saving Tellez for 2 outs, 0 on in the 9th. 4D Chess.
  17. Not a fan of using openers, but using one for Stripling moving forward is probably a good idea.
  18. Lowe is roided up Barry Bonds according to Buntoyo.
  19. Panik is back, so we get to look forward to the Panik/Espinal platoon that no one asked for.
  20. Jansen's arb years begin after this season. I think he's being moved in the off season, but depends on what they want to do with Kirk/Moreno (tandem at the big league level? Start Kirk at DH/part time C?). Lots to time to make that decision though.
  21. Agreed. Montoyo was hired because this job was undesirable in 2018-19 and someone had to absorb all the L's when the team was losing. To keep him now that the team has aggressively spent money to contend and are beginning their competitive window is 100% on Atkins. Someone had to hire him in the first place, and someone is keeping him hired despite him showing no signs of being any good at the job. Time for Shatkins to step in, but I'm not holding my breath.
  22. No way the Rays are risking Wander being a Super 2 since that would mean paying someone more than the league minimum earlier than they have to.
  23. I'm torn between rooting for the Jays to win, and wanting them to be bad enough so that Atkins gets rid of Montoyo. I'll take missing the playoffs in 2021 if it means Buntoyo is gone and the 2022-2025 team is managed by someone worthy of being a big league manager. I don't want to live in a reality where this young core is managed by that stooge during the peak of their run.
  24. Hopefully Cash intentionally walks a few hitters for no reason so the Jays can bring the winning run to the plate.
  25. I can no longer laugh at Montoyo’s stupidity. It legit makes me mad now. Ugh. Giving free outs to a beatable McHugh, giving free base runners intentionally to the Rays when Beasley is pitching. I can live with a Dolis blown save, that s*** happens, but damn stuff like this is really bad.
