    Yeah, no chance the MLBPA agrees to that. They'll be staying in Buffalo at least for the rest of this season.

    I'm actually rooting for that exact scenario (not trading Ray and Semien, the part before that). Winning a World Series in Buffalo would be poetic justice.

    If you're talking about US endorsements, then yes, having someone who speaks english would be beneficial, although I suspect Ohtani is going to get more endorsements in the coming months given how much hype there has been around him, so it may not matter. As mentioned, MLB is starting to build their marketing around him now. Vlad will suffer because he plays in Canada, so his reach in the US might be impacted by that, not his lack of fluency in english.

    I think we have to accept the fact that the Jays are going to spend the entire season in Buffalo. If Canada forces anything on the players (vaccinations, quarantining, etc) it's not going to go over well with the MLBPA, and given how slow the Canadian government has been in this whole process, I'd be shocked if they'd allow more fans at RC than they currently allow in Buffalo. I'd love if the Jays went on a huge 2nd half run, made the playoffs, were granted permission to play in Toronto again, but then told Canada that they'd rather host the playoff games in Buffalo. It won't happen, but pettiness can be appropriate some times.

    Yeah I never understood why people care if an athlete can or can't speak english. I think I read that the HR derby got over 7 million viewers on ESPN, and it was a show built around a Japanese player who can't speak english (well). Fans don't (and shouldn't) care. As far as "the face of baseball", it's going to be Tatis regardless of how good Ohtani and Vlad are. Tatis is super charismatic and looks cool doing just about anything. That's going to play better to the younger audiences and sponsors.

    I am in the minority for liking both rules. The 7 inning games tend to breeze by, which makes two games in a day a lot easier to get through, and so far (I don't have any numbers on this) it seems like most extra inning games are ending at a reasonable inning rather than going 19 or 20. Maybe compromise and start the runner on 2nd in the 11th inning to give each team one shot at it conventionally, but shortening extra inning games to me is a good thing.

    Yeah based on everything I've read on social media, the HR derby was getting great reviews, especially the Ohtani/Soto round. I think this format works, they just need to figure out a way to make the actual home runs more visible, but that's more an ESPN issue.

    I can see why they changed it. If they had the old rule, Ohtani ends up with like 1 home run since he was drilling everything into the ground or hitting line drives initially before he started getting hot. Although yes, the old rule made you pay attention to and appreciate every home run. There has to be a middle ground somewhere, but I don't trust ESPN to ever find it.

    That was fun. Kinda glad Ohtani lost, dude was exhausted and he has to pitch +lead off tomorrow night. Keep that man healthy.

    The Indians likely have a better shot at the WC than the Jays do given the division they play in, so I doubt they trade Ramirez. Their payroll is nothing anyway and he has two affordable option years left so they have no incentive to move him like they did with Lindor, especially if they can sneak into a WC spot with him.

    131 PA, 75 wRC+, 2.3 BB%, 29.0 K%, .244 OBP The issue is not so much his performance, he's a streaky 1 WAR outfielder so this is exactly what he is, but as long as Buntoyo is managing, I don't think he'll ever truly be used as a 4th OF. Charlie loves vetrins. Loves them. Whether they are good or not. Even if the Jays find a way to add a bat or two at the deadline, Grich is going to play 4-5 times a week. I'm almost sure of that. I'm just tired of seeing him as an everyday player, so if they have to "Joe Panik" him to give someone else a shot, then I'm all for it. Find an equally bad contract and move on.

    Cleveland always values MLB players in trades so if they were to trade Ramirez I’m sure Biggio would interest them. There would have to be way more included though.

    Yeah not sure why Reese is in there against a lefty. Just bizarre that the Jays are leaving Kirk in the minors to ride out a hot streak that’s probably already over from a scrub.

    "Why do the Jays need to get Nelson Cruz?" Every time Grichuk comes back and you realize he's playing everyday, that's why.

    Yeah seems like a lot of Jay Allen to the Jays in the mocks posted here. I know next to nothing about amateur prospects so I don't know if that would be a good pick or not, but can't argue with the Jays drafting under the Atkins regime (last 3 first round picks being Groshans, Manoah, and Martin) so will trust them either way.

    If the Cubs took Grichuk back, then I think a Kimbrel deal makes more sense. Only a minor hit to 2022 payroll (about $5-6m more) followed by a ~$10m savings in 2023, but the Jays would have to add some real sweetener in that deal as Grichuk provides no type of value to the Cubs. I vaguely remember reading that Atkins wanted to save financial bullets for this coming winter, which is why other than Springer it was basically all one year deals, so as mentioned before I don't think they take Kimbrel if they are adding $16m to the payroll next year. If they are only adding ~$5m (with Grich included), then it's a different ballgame. Don't think either scenario is all that likely.

    Yeah I think Bauer ends up skating out of this, unless more women come forward.

    If Kimbrel only needs 26 more games finished for his option to vest, then he'd get that before September with the way Buntoyo uses relievers. The Jays would have to be willing to have him back at $16m next year, and I'm not sure they would. Atkins doesn't usually invest heavily in the pen. My guess is he'll find a more cost effective RP or two that are having bad years but have great K rates and velocity.

    Imagine getting the highest AAV of any player in your sport, and then within 3 months risking it all for a random on social. Or maybe someone told him that nothing will ever be as embarrassing as the rap song he recorded years ago, and Trevor took that as a challenge.
