  1. Wong and Yates are both from Hawaii, and Wong retweeted a Hawaiian site's article about it. I wouldn't read anything into it.
  2. Will wait for one of the big dogs to report this, but this is either happening or a really well planned ruse by Blue Jays Twitter.
  3. Damn, Rosenthal is never wrong...... I like the $5.5m number better.
  4. Rosenthal saying the deal is 1/8.25m with incentives.
  5. The Jays having an open closer role is going to be appealing for established relievers coming off injury or down seasons. Yates would be a great add if he's healthy.
  6. ESPN has all the receipts too so no way for Porter to hide from this. Wonder what the Mets will do.
  7. Seems to have consistently great FB/CB spin rate, and as a RP in 2019 was averaging 96 mph. Could have potential as a RP. Hopefully not a rotation option.
  8. I would also prefer Bauer based on the way the team is constructed. I mean I wouldn't be against Springer, but I'm very bullish on the Jays position player core (especially with Martin coming up). Pitching is way more unpredictable. Of course if the league starts regulating foreign substances, then Bauer would no longer be the spin rate god, but an overpay on a mid rotation starter (assuming that's what Bauer becomes without "help") is likely better than an overpay on a corner OF (which Springer will become in 2 years). Regardless, I'm fine with whatever happens. As long as the Jays don't sign anyone that gives off Tanner Roark vibes.
  9. I think it's a fair argument that if the Jays were to overpay for a FA it should be for Bauer and not a position player based on the way the team and system is set up. I guess it depends on what Bauer wants compared to Springer.
  10. JT back to Philly was a lock the moment Dombrowski finished signing his name on the contract he got. I'd be shocked if he ends up anywhere else.
  11. The fact that most of the FA's are still available and the Jays haven't signed anyone except their own (Ray) seems to suggest it is the opposite of misreading the market. Misreading the market is giving $45m to Morales and Pearce in Nov/Dec and then seeing the 1B/DH market completely crater shortly after that. Right now the Jays appear to be reading the market perfectly. It doesn't mean they will end up with any of the top names, but they haven't missed out on them yet (DJ was never leaving the Yanks) and haven't sunk some of their resources into lesser players before seeing what happens to the big guys.
  12. I don't think DJ was leaving the Yankees for any team, not just the Jays. He wanted to stay, the Yankees wanted him back, it was just a matter of time before they agreed. I don't think it mattered what the Jays offered, unless it was ridiculous (like 6/120 or something like that). This deal probably gives the Yanks enough lux tax flexibility to sign a SP (Kluber?).
  13. Passan is saying DJ's deal is 6/90.
  14. Kluber’s price would be fair for most teams even in this environment. Competition will be big for him.

I can't think of a more unlikable team in pro sports than the Nets. KD, Irving, and Harden. The NBA got what they love, a villain super team, so I'm sure they are happy.
  16. Not player related, but great news.

I think they'll trade Lowry. I'm sure he wants to at least contend for another title during whatever is left of his good years, and the Raptors made a significant investment in FVV as the PG so at some point they'll have to give him the keys. The Lowry/FVV backcourt was fine for a year, but they need a legit starting SG. The perfect scenario would have been Lowry finishing his career in Toronto and the cap space next season used on a superstar, but Giannis isn't coming and Kawhi wouldn't stay on a much better Raptors team a year and a half ago, so there's really no point in keeping Kyle aside from sentimental reasons. And like I said I don't think he'd want to stay on a team that looks like it's headed for the lottery this season.
  18. Yeah I don't think this front office is ever going to allocate that much to a RP unless it was the finishing touches to a title contender. I'm sure they had legit interest in Hendriks for the pen this winter, but I doubt it was anywhere near the price he signed for. No sense in overpaying a closer now when they still need help in the rotation, infield, and CF. More likely the pen will have cheap options with guys coming off injury or down years being signed. Having the closer role open might be a nice incentive for a 'buy low' RP to sign here.
  19. I wouldn't take that deal if I were Tatis. He's going to be a free agent at age 26. Who knows what the economics of the game will look like in 4 years, or his performance, but I would imagine between his talent, age, and marketability, he could easily break $400M if he stays on the same path he's on now. That's on top of his arb numbers which would likely be pretty high. He just signed a national endorsement deal with Gatorade, and has deals with Adidas and BMW as well. He'd be fine waiting a couple of years. Then again, maybe he just wants 11 years of not having to worry about MLB money, and can focus on making money in other ways.
  20. And his 2021 salary will be right around what they owed Cano prior to the PED suspension. Makes a lot of sense for them. Would also increase the chances of the Jays getting Springer the more the Mets spend money elsewhere.
  21. Cleveland's been trying to blend helping the big league roster and farm system simultaneously in practically all their trades (Bauer, Kluber, Clev, Lindor), and it's probably lead to shittier deals because of it. In a way I get it because the Central is routinely so awful that they could trade a player and still win the division or WC, but I can't see them doing that with the current roster. They've stripped away too much talent in the last year+ and the White Sox/Twins should be a lot better than them. Curious to know what the Jays offered.

If there is any season the Raptors should take a knee, this one is it. Draft class looks good, they spend the entire season on the road, season is always iffy due to Covid, and their plans for Giannis went down the tubes so they need high end talent (high draft pick is a good way). I'm ready for the subtle tank. Next season when hopefully they are playing in Toronto with fans in attendance, they can go back to regularly scheduled programming.
  23. Roark might be better with a non regional schedule. He started 11 games last season, 10 of them against the AL East (3 vs NYY, 2 vs TAM, 3 vs BAL, 2 vs BOS). Throw in some Central and West teams into the mix, and he's probably around where he normally is, which is a boring and below average innings guy. Either way, I hope he's not in the rotation to start the season. Shun will be so far away from the rotation we won't even see him.
  24. That’s my point, I don’t think they’ll be fighting over “scraps” due to the current market conditions. By all accounts they are being super aggressive and have money to spend. If they can’t lure a top end FA, then they likely have a financial advantage in the second tier market. Now, if they miss out on that market as well, then I would agree that’s a problem, but unless the league wide financial concerns are being overblown, I would expect the Jays to be able to land at least 2 good second tier pieces if their Springer/Bauer/DJ/JT plans fail. Hendriks for example falls under the upper end of the second tier/non big 4 market and the Jays seem to have a real shot there.
