  1. Yeah, I'm fine with Sahlen Field for a season, but Dunedin just isn't working for me. I think it's the cardboard cut outs and lack of crowd, but either way, I'll be happy when they leave Florida.
  2. If you asked me to pick one today I'd go with Manoah, but that's only because of Pearson's injury history. Manoah just looks like he will be a guy who will be a workhorse, but obviously pitchers are fragile regardless.
  3. Would have liked Stripling to get one more inning considering how good he looked, but good start regardless.
  4. I'm curious to see what the umpire grade for the HP ump will be after this game. I'm following on Gameday, and it seems like a lot of calls are wrong. More than the usual incompetence by HP umps.
  5. Don't even bother testing out robo umps in the minors. Just implement the technology today and work out the kinks as the season progresses. Seriously can't be worse than what we are seeing nowdays.
  6. I'm just as excited about Moreno as I am Martin and Groshans. For an athletic catcher, what he's doing with the bat at his age and level is really intriguing.
  7. I like all of those, and would be fine with limiting pick off attempts to increase SB's (which is apparently something they are testing) as well. The game needs more stolen bases, doubles, triples, and less time in between pitches. I think you accomplish a lot of those things with the rules changes they are testing. I really hope some, if not all, of those changes are added soon.
  8. Pearson has been optioned to AAA, and Jeremy Beasley (who?) is coming up.
  9. I like practically every rule they are testing out in the minors. Robo umps, moving the mound back, increasing base size, limiting pickoff attempts, pitch clock, etc. The only one I'm not sure of is regulating shifts as I'd actually have to see it implemented first, but the others should add more action to the game. I hope they all get implemented, assuming all goes well in their minor league/Atlantic League trials.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdBAVo-5m_o In case this wasn't posted, interview with Theo Epstein about "how to fix baseball". I wonder how much of what the league is trying in the minors has Epstein's fingerprints on it since that appears to be why he was hired. He definitely articulates his vision better than Manfred ever could.
  11. Manfred should have unjuiced the balls after he made all the changes he's testing out in the minors/Atlantic League. He had to know that doing it beforehand was going to cause this end result. Although TV/streaming numbers/overall interest in the sport seems to be up this season compared to previous years, so maybe fans don't mind the pitching dominance.
  12. Yeah when I saw Miley was throwing one, I had no interest in seeing the final out at all, and I typically always like seeing the final outs of no hitters or perfect games. It might have officially jumped the shark with him. As I said above, the league wants to do things to increase BIP like move the mound back + they want robo umps. So they deaden the baseball so that offense around the league resembles the dead ball era and umpires are increasing the size of the strike zone to almost comical levels. My tinfoil hat is firmly in place.
  13. Montoyo would play him everyday and bat him cleanup.
  14. 4 no hitters now (5 if you count MadBum) in the first week of May, and Manaea has one through 7 tonight. I can only assume the deadening of the baseballs was to make it easier to justify all those changes they want to make (moving the mound back, etc), but when Wade Miley throws a NH, man.
  15. Even the HP ump felt pity for Stripling there.
  16. Stripling's LA numbers are good, but man everything about his stuff looks ordinary.
  17. Yeah if you have access to the cable channel that has exclusive rights to the games, then you'll be blacked out. Anyone who lives in Canada likely has access to get whatever channel Rogers is airing the games on, so that's why they black the games out. They want fans to watch the games on those platforms, while MLBTV is used for out of market games. I don't think it's a MLB decision either. I believe it is up to the teams and their deals with their regional sports networks. If they made everything available on MLBTV and didn't have cable deals, then the price for MLBTV would have to be astronomical to come close to being profitable for them.
  18. The fact that this team is facing a righty and I don't have to see Panik's name in the lineup is something I am not going to underappreciate. Let's celebrate these days while they are here.
  19. Lindor will bounce back but he was never an elite hitter for his career. A very good one but not elite. That contract will age poorly, especially once his defense declines. I expect him to turn things around this season, though.
  20. Charles was playing Springer on one leg for a few days, and let Giles blow his arm out as he sat in the dugout watching. Panik will DH today, even if he has to limp to the plate.
  21. Yeah I don't understand why they'd want to rush him when he's not healthy enough to play the field. Given the nature of his injuries, it was a recipe for disaster. Even if he had to miss 2-3 months, it is what it is. Just make sure that when he comes back, he's healthy. Now it's back to waiting, and unfortunately there's no guarantee they won't rush him again.
  22. Yankee fans are giving it to the Astros, especially Altuve.
  23. This is the answer because they start Panik against RHP and Espinal against LHP despite Panik not being able to hit righties at all in the last 3-4 seasons. Really wish they signed Brad Miller. A LH bat who can actually hit and likely isn't any worse at 3B than Panik is. Hell, even if he is, the bat would at least make up for it.
