    That's the frustrating part. It's understandable if no good candidate wanted this job after 2018 considering the Jays were heading into a tank season, so hiring a deer-in-headlights minor league manager to soak up losses during a rebuild made sense. But if the Jays job became open today, the candidate pool would be a lot better because the team situation is a lot better. Having Buntoyo manage this roster just seems like a huge waste.

    Buntoyo got to use a s*** ton of relievers. Win or lose, that probably makes him happy.

    The sad thing is, that's likely the exact reason. He manages like you'd expect a minor league manager to manage.

    Montoyo with tears in his eyes after that double. Rowdy's never playing again.

    I remember the Yankee announcers used to kill Betances for having no ability to hold runners on, although he was dominating for a few years so easier to overlook. Romano definitely needs to improve there.

    At some point Charlie is going to bump Vlad up to 4th. It's such an easy move, but I guess he doesn't want to discourage Hernandez or something like that. So I guess Thornton for 1 more, and then Romano + Merryweather coming up.

    What's annoying is Montoyo let Stripling face Ohtani, Trout, and Rendon in the last inning, yet had no intention of letting him go beyond the 5th despite the low pitch count. Could have just taken him out after 4 if that was the case and let a fresh arm throw to the top of the lineup, especially since Thornton can eat up several innings. Giving up a bomb to Trout is not a sign of weakness so I would have kept Stripling in as well, but unfortunately this is the way baseball is now.

    I have no issues with using the DH spot to rest starters, but then don't use the utility infield spot on Panik. He has sucked for 3+ years, and wasn't even the best utility IF option on the team during ST (Espinal). If the utility IF is going to play a lot then they should have splurged in free agency and overpaid for one with a bit more upside (Miller, Marwin, etc).

    Conforto's not going to need to lean in to get hit by a pitch the next time they play. Even the Mets announcers didn't want to defend that.

    Conforto clearly leaned into that one. No idea why they didn't reverse that.

    Taijuan Walker's first three pitches in today's start: 96, 96, 97. Everyone's velo is up nowadays. (Except Roark)

    Moving Vlad up is probably a smart idea at this point, regardless of the small sample size. Other than that, nearly everyone is slumping at the same time. That’s a recipe for disaster.

    I hate Buntoyo’s love of pitching changes. Just let Mayza finish that inning.

    I'd be very surprised if Montoyo lets any starter go 8 innings, much less Ryu who they are going to take it easy with. I think 7 max as long as his pitch count is low.

    Zeuch has options, so I'm guessing Ray will replace him and not Roark, although I hope I'm wrong. I'm not the biggest Zoinks fan, but at least he throws harder now and is much more likely to GB his way to good starts than a 34 year old Roark throwing 90 mph BP.

    Semien at SS today, with Bichette at DH, and Charlie's golden boy at 2B. At least he's not at DH again.

    One benefit to this game is it (should be) a rest day for any of the important relievers, although with Montoyo you never know. He loves using the pen. I'd just run Milone out there the rest of the game.
