  1. Hopefully they can use Romano in a 7 run game tomorrow.
  2. At least Dolis is making this quick. The last game he blew against the Red Sox took five years to finish.
  3. Vlad giving the Jays a chance, and Bunty taking it away by putting in Dolis. I know there aren’t many options in the pen, but this seems like a bad idea. Or maybe I just don’t want 8 pitches to take 25 minutes.
  4. I wonder how big the lead would have to be for Romano not to pitch today? 10 could go either way.
  5. Let Matz throw 110-120 pitches with a 6 run lead but don’t let Strip throw 84 against the bottom of their order. 4D chess is not meant for regular people.
  6. With how often Charlie goes to the pen, it really doesn't surprise me that every RP who does well on this team ends up getting hurt. This is the same man who saw Ken Giles' arm almost come off the bone and still let him throw a few more times before taking him out. The Jays could be up 7-1 and he'll go to the best healthy RP on the team in the 9th. He's just really, really bad.
  7. Romano is out, so let's go to the dumpster fire pen earlier instead of stretching the starter out (only 83 pitches) a bit longer. Perfect sense.
  8. Buntoyo is the perfect manager if you’re tanking. The fact that this ass is managing a team wanting to contend is a travesty.
  9. That's why I don't see it happening. New TV deals kick in starting in 2022, it will be full capacity from the jump, and chances are expanded playoffs will be negotiated into any deal so the owners have a lot of incentive to have the season. The players obviously do as well. After all the losses in 2020 and likely some loss in 2021, no one benefits from a work stoppage. My guess is there will be an ugly, public, and completely nauseating public fight between the two sides but they'll ultimately agree to something at the last minute. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part but money will eventually win out in the end.
  10. I haven’t seen recent starts but the one start I saw of Walker this season he was pumping 96-97. Given that he missed two full seasons due to TJS and his first season back was a 60 game season, it’s certainly possible that he’s recovered and turned the corner. Let’s see how he does the rest of the season.
  11. Taylor is like 8 months older than Austin Martin. He’s still very young. The K% has to come down obviously but pop/speed combo is intriguing.
  12. Alonso's take loses a lot of credibility when you see how much SPs were paid after 2019 (Cole, Strasburg, Ryu, Wheeler, etc). If owners/Manfred colluded to depress the following season's strong FA SP market, but then proceeded to spend hundreds of millions on the pitchers anyway (including the biggest pitching contract ever), that seems to pour a lot of cold water on Alonso's point. Theo Epstein in an interview said that the three most popular outcomes for fans during a game are a triple, double and SB in that order. I think deadening the ball is as simple as Manfred wanting to reduce home runs and increase BIP, and being naive enough to think that making the HR more difficult would cause hitters to change their approach. Intentionally deadening the balls so that Carlos Correa and Trevor Story get a bit less money is tinfoil hat material.
  13. Yeah seriously, how much distrust exists between the two sides if that type of conspiracy level s*** is legitimately being discussed by the players?
  14. Panik has a 0.4 WAR and 77 wRC+ in his last 1111 plate appearances (2018-present). As mentioned, he provides no platoon value and defensively he's a 2B-only player who is negative value defensive player at third where the Jays are playing him/starting him with Biggio out. He's not an end of the bench guy on this roster, he's the primary utility player who the manager loves. Yes, Panik is what he is and may not be a negative WAR player, but he's just not good. This time with Biggio out they could have started Espinal everyday at 3B and at least seen what he has rather than giving him one or two games a week against a LHP and expecting him to hit them because he's a RHB.
  15. Not only Cole, but Verlander went to Houston and turned back the clock instantly. Their cheating was definitely across the board.
  16. Donaldson talking about pitchers cheating. I'm glad he mentioned Bauer wanting to bring attention to it. Cole is going to be the face of this because of the contract he got, whether fairly or not, but this absolutely needed to be enforced and I'm glad it will be.
  17. The sad thing is, if Cole had answered "yes" with no hesitation and no remorse, it would have been better than the answer he actually gave.
  18. Springer is likely going to DH just as much as (if not more than) he plays the field for a while, so Tellez is likely the one who gets sent down instead of Davis.
  19. Service time manipulation is obviously a thing that exists, but I agree people take it overboard some times. The Jays got lucky with Kirk coming up from A+ and hitting right away (even Manfred's baseballs can't stop the Cap'n). Most of the time prospects, especially hitting prospects, need reps against upper minors competition.
  20. I agree it's a political decision, and given that there's no guarantee Canada will allow even 25-50% capacity (much less full) at the games assuming they even allow the Jays and visiting teams to travel there in the first place, it makes Sahlen for all of 2021 a bit more logical, IMO. If the Jays somehow make the playoffs, then good for Buffalo, I guess. It sucks that the Raptors and Jays have to suffer because of this, but unlike Tampa with the Raptors, I think the Jays might actually have a homefield advantage in Buffalo, so it wouldn't be the worst outcome. If they were still in Dunedin, then that's a different story.
  21. Agreed. The MLBPA will not agree to something like that, nor should they. Just let the Jays finish the season in Buffalo. Unless Canada is willing to let players travel without living in a bubble and will allow a reasonable amount of fans into games, it just seems like a waste to have players go through all that nonsense.
  22. I think the dead ball has hurt the Yankees more than most teams. They were built around the home run. Their lineup is full of RH sluggers (in Yankees Stadium no less) and the only non-slugger who actually puts the ball in play consistently is DJLM who can't hit for power anymore because the new ball is going to hurt wall scrappers the most. Their lineup aside from Judge and (when healthy) Stanton is a mess. I'm curious to see what type of changes they make at the deadline because they desperately need to add some variety into the lineup.
  23. Yeah, Bauer is actually helping baseball here. He wanted MLB to police it, they didn’t, so he proved a point and got the highest aav ever in the process. Guys like Cole are much bigger heels in this saga.
  24. Joe Panik as the starting 3B with Biggio out is depressing. It would be one thing if he could field 3B, but he's not even good at that. The only one who benefits is Charlie who gets to live out his dream by writing Panik's name in the starting lineup.
  25. The crack down on illegal substances hopefully helps the hitters make more contact. Bauer telling everyone he cheated and still getting $100m over 3 years is a power move on his part. Got his money and helping the game as well by exposing it.
